Plot[]

A building is on fire, a woman and her son are trapped inside, hoping someone would get them out, anyone. Some sharp pieces of debris were about to fall on top of the child until it was stopped, held up by a gracious savior.

It was hard to focus on him, given it was a burning building so all they could do was thank it as it wrapped them tightly in its arms, bringing it's yellow membranes around the family, running to bust down some more debris and jump out.

"Hang on! I'm not used to flying with passengers." The creature spoke in a raspy voice as it held them by its feet as it spread them out, allowing it to carry them to safety. Revealing it as a red, humanoid manta-ray with a black and white uniform across the top half, the same for his bottom half, the uniform spread across the top of the humanoid's arms, and the Omnitrix symbol on his navel.

"Thank you for saving me and my son, mister…" The mother asked.

"Jetray." Ben said, quickly coming up with a name, "No need to thank me, it's all in a day's work."

The boy was about to thank Jetray as well, bringing up a few trading cards and flipping through them as one caught Ben's eye as he continued to explain his heroics.

"Did I ever tell you about the time… Is that a Gold Sumo Slammers card?! I've been looking all over for that! I can trade you my…" Jetray interrupted himself as he saw some robbers getting into a car after having just finished robbing a jewelry store, using the fire as a diversion and so he took to the skies again, gliding above their getaway car as he dove to pick the car up.

"Oh! Thank God, man, I thought we were in some deep trouble, it's just some freaky cosplay thing, nothin' to worry about!"

"That 'cosplay thing' just blew up our car and can fly! You were drivin' Michael, check the rearview mirror, basic road laws!"

"We just robbed a jewelry store you idgit, why care about the law right now-!"

Jetray just pulled the two out of the car by their necks, staring them in the eyes.

"Can a 'cosplayer' do this?" He smirked as he smacked their heads together, knocking the two out as the Omnitrix began to flash red, "They picked the wrong day to be bad…"

"...Guys." Ben finished, having returned to human form as the police came.

"Run along, kid! Those are criminals!" The cop yelled, motioning to get Ben out of there.

"But I stopped them, I'm the hero!" Ben whined, pointing to himself as Max and Gwen showed up.

"Ben! We've been looking all over for you!" Gwen complained, covering for her cousin's identity as Max dragged him from the crime scene.

The day after, an overweight businessman was knocking on an apartment door yelling, "Open up, Animo! Don't got all day, burnin' daylight here!"

No response. He pulled out his key, cursing to himself as he entered the building, only to be taken aback by the disgusting scent of the place and how loud the patron had the news playing as he kept switching channels.

"Yosemite Park was just saved by a- Washington residents claim that- this strange crystal thing- a manta-ray saved a family of two from a house fire and stopped a getaway car- 'We don't know where he came from or what that robot was, but we're just glad we're safe' says the park ranger."

"Animo, turn the gosh darn noise down! I have the right to kick you out if I want if you keep this up!"

"Silence me all you want… you cannot silence progress…"

"Yeah, well how 'bout you progress with paying me your month's rent! So either you pony up the green, or you and your furry friends are on the streets."

The madman smirked, "'Pony up', interesting choice of phrasing. An animal lover too I presume?" He picked up a frog from its enclosure, petting it before setting it down so he could put on a helmet with two horn protrusions, "A Transmodulator; phase one. It creates and accelerates mutations at the genetic level."

The doctor turned the dial on his chest, shooting beams from out of the horns at the frog on the ground, causing it to grow as large as the room's ceiling. The landlord looked up, screaming as the frog engulfed him whole.

"Sorry, I couldn't hear that, may you repeat again, good sir? It appears you have a FROG in your THROAT! Or is it the other way around?" Animo couldn't help but laugh at his horribly enunciated joke as the landlord was spat out, leaving him groaning and unconscious, "How had this knowledge been kept away from seizing the prize I so deserve… do I not have all the components to finish?"

Conveniently, a commercial for MegaMart came on, giving Animo an idea. And even more conveniently, the Tennysons were also at the MegaMart, scouring the aisles as Ben pulled some cereal off the shelves.

"Sumo Snacks! These should have the card!" Ben exclaimed, giving a quick jumshot to get it into the shopping cart while Max and Gwen talked about food while she heard Ben transforming right behind her and by the time she could catch the brat, the entire aisle was in tatters with Ben as a small, yellow insect alien in the middle, eating some fish.

"What are you doing!" Gwen chastised, picking him up while Ben finished the fish still in his mouth.

"Well, when I went XLR8 to do some errands I stopped by a lake when I turned back to normal, became some fish guy and got us some fish so we wouldn't have to eat Grandpa's crazy cooking. Oh, you mean right now, I'm looking for the gold Sumo Slammer Card." Ben explained, shrugging, "It's this box for sure!"

"Uh, hello! You're supposed to use your powers to help people! Ever heard of 'with great power comes great responsibility'!"

"Ahem…" The store manager, an old man wearing a red apron and glasses cleared his throat prompting Gwen to hide her cousin behind her back.

"It wasn't me, it was my doofus cousin!" Gwen defended herself.

"Doesn't matter, someone's going to have to pay for it."

"Now would any of you mind telling me why we're buying so much cereal? I'm sure some sheep's bladder and octopus could make a good enough road breakfast." Max asked, staring at the mountain of cereal boxes on his cart.

"I need this one card, Grandpa, you have to understand!"

"It's just a stupid piece of cardboard, Ben!" Gwen yelled in frustration.

"Ben, I can appreciate you having something that means this much to you, but don't you think you're a little… obsessed?"

"Right, Grandpa, it's not like I rescued a bunch of people from a burning building or anything like that."

"Superhero guilt? Pretty low, even for you, Ben." Gwen seriously wasn't expecting her cousin to go this far.

"Hey, if it works, it works." Ben shrugged.

Suddenly, the entire shop begins to rumble, TV sets fell from their displays, people run screaming and as the walls burst open, there he was, Dr. Animo on his mutant frog. Animo wasted no time and began to packet electronics once he got off his pet as it knocked stacked boxes onto Ben.

"Don't be a hero, boy. Just run along and play."

"He's so lucky I can't go hero…" Ben sighed, looking down at his Omnitrix as Gwen and Max got him out from under the boxes.

Animo began to hop to escape the scene, stopped by some security guards.

"Freeze! I repeat, step off the giant… frog and put your hands up! We are NOT paid enough for this!" The taller of the two yelled, as they both brandished their guns to which Animo just rode off, landing in the Pets section, firing a blast at a hamster causing it to rapidly grow, as well as a Cockatiel taking up much of the aisle's space as they roamed around.

The hamster lunged at Ben as he ran away and luckily was able to roll underneath, checking the Omnitrix, it was still recharging so he quickly made a dash for a scooter and running over the hamster's foot before it could lunge at his family as he began to weave through the aisles, managing to use some fallen over things as ramps to knock the aisles over onto the hamster. Animo then left his frog, leaping on his cockatiel, flying through the glass ceiling while the frog jumped after him.

"You believe you have stopped me, but this is only a momentary setback!"

The store manager showed back up, singing a completely different tune.

"Young man, if there's ANYTHING I can give to repay you for saving this store just say the word."

"I can think of a… few things." Ben said, looking at a case showing a Gold Sumo Slammer Card, however Max swooped the boy up in his arm and began leaving, "I could've had it!"

"No time for that, Ben, we've got a mad scientist to chase." Max sighed, dragging the two kids along to the RV where they chased after the parrot.

"Just like the good old days… before retirement." Max reminisced.

"What kind of plumber were you, exactly?" Gwen inquired.

"Er, uh, a darn good one! Anyways, er, Ben, something the matter?"

"I save an entire MegaMart and what do I get? Nothing. It's not fair…"

"Being a hero isn't about others knowing that you did something good, it's about you knowing you did something good. Heroism is its own reward."

Gwen gasped, finally getting something on her laptop while Ben angrily looked out the window.

"Five years ago, Dr. Aloysius Animo was a promising researcher in veterinary science. But it turned out he was doing these twisted experiments with genetics, he flipped out when he didn't win some big prize called 'The Verities Award', ringing any bells, Ben?"

The parrot disappeared between some buildings as Max sighed, "He could be going anywhere in Washington D.C."

This was enough to catch Ben's attention as he said, "That's it! I know where he's going! The Natural History Museum!"

They showed up at the museum, finding a giant feather on the stairs.

"So, it looks like we're in the right place. Good job, Ben."

"I guess even a doofus can surprise you every once in a while."

"Takes one to know one."

With that the trio entered the building with Animo in the center still tinkering away.

"You are… persistent… I HATE PERSISTENT!"

"We already know about your little mutation scheme Dr. Whacko!" Ben pointed his finger in an accusatory manner.

"No matter. My project is already in stage 2. Reanimating dormant cells in organisms…"

"Hey, Geekasaurus Rex, you know what he's saying?" Ben turned to his cousin, who rolled her eyes.

"He's bringing dead things-." Gwen tried to explain but Animo cut her off.

"Do not interrupt me, CHILDREN! I am bringing the breath of life back into that which has been left lifeless so long ago!" Animo yelled, activating his Transmodulstor, aimed at a mammoth that, sure enough, came to life, stepping off its pedestal to shadow Animo.

"I'll show him that he's not the only one that can go prehistoric." Ben said, twisting the dial until he slammed down, transforming into a monstrous dinosaur with a brown outer side on his skin and a beige inner side, said skin began to harden, with black briefs as his outfit, as the transformation finished with the Omnitrix forming from his torso.

"Let's wrestle!" The new transformation growled as he began to charge at the mammoth who charged as well.

Ben easily took the Mammoth down as he began pounding the prehistoric creature while Gwen and Max chased Animo into another room where Gwen got the idea to take a spear from the caveman exhibit to defend herself and Max from the mutant cockatiel making it run away after it was smacked in the eye.

"Ben's not the only one with skills." Gwen congratulated herself.

Animo simply silently smirked, turning to face a T-Rex skeleton, firing a beam from the Transmodulator which brought it to life as flesh and blood returned to it as it roared into the sky.

Meanwhile, Ben grabbed the Mammoth by the trunk, as he began swinging it around before tossing it through a wall, only to realize its tusks were about to pierce Gwen and Max who luckily jumped out of the way.

Animo hopped onto the head of his T-Rex to escape by breaking down a wall while his cockatiel came, seemingly for revenge by grabbing Gwen and escaping with her, as Ben forced his way in.

"He got away, Ben, you think you can jump to get it?" Max asked.

"I'm not exactly sure on that one, but I guess I have no choice! Humungousaur's going for a humongous soar!" Ben yelled, jumping out of the hole, to grab onto the cockatiel's legs however its talons pierce his hands causing enough pain for him to let go and fall to the ground in a crater where he reverted to human.

"GWEN!" Ben yelled, defeated.

"Somebody call for a taxi?" Max joked, pulling up in the Rust Bucket to grab Ben.

Meanwhile, Gwen was hanging in the air by her backpack in the cockatiel's beak as she sarcastically mused to herself.

"'Spend a summer with your grandpa', they said. 'It'll be an adventure', they said." She said, rolling her eyes, pulling out her cellphone, "They said this was for emergencies only and this is an emergency so…"

Max got a call on his phone from Gwen explaining her situation as a drop of a large white liquid landed in the street.

"Ew, acidic bird poop!"

"And if that's dropping, Gwen might be next."

"Not if I can help it, it's HERO time!" Ben slammed down on the Omnitrix, his arms and body extended, his limbs spreading out for yellow membranes to spread out from below to connect to his growing tail, his head slightly changing as yellow horns sprouted as his skin finally turned red. Finishing the transformation as he hopped out of the RV's sunroof, gliding into the night sky as Animo's T-Rex continues to crush buildings on its way to the Washington monument, catching a certain card in its foot on the road there. Seeing Gwen about to drop, Ben abandons firing neuroshocks at the dinosaur and swoops upwards, catching her by her leg.

"Huh? Ben?" Gwen shook her head in surprise.

"Jetray!" He said, yelling triumphantly, using both feet to pull Gwen up so she could hang onto his back.

"We can exchange names later, thanks for saving me though. Incoming!"

The parrot almost caught the two with its talons as Jetray fired a strong neuroshock blast to knock it out of the air.

"Could use some clippers there, Polly!" Jetray shouted, diving in a spin around the bird to bring Gwen to Max.

"I think I'm gonna be sick…" Gwen sighed.

"Throw it on me and you better grow some wings, quick." Jetray rolled his eyes, passing her off to Max to get into the Rust Bucket so he could fly off. Several famous doctors were inside a building, all conversing, as one of them, Dr. Kelly, was about to give his congratulatory speech, Dr. Animo forced his way in.

"...I truly love my work, and now, I shall take what is rightfully mine." Animo wasted no time, jumping down to grab the Verities Award as the T-Rex swiped its mouth towards Kelly before Jetray caught him, escaping harm but getting his tail hit by the rex's head swinging, landing in the rubble of Animo breaking in.

"Sumo Slammer gold… Or saving a life… I can always try both." Jetray got up, examining his options as he leapt, gliding close to the ground to catch the card in his mouth before swooping up to save Kelly before he was eaten, dodging several lasers from Animo's attempts to mutate him before dropping Kelly off in safety, returning to the fight by firing several neuroshocks that knocked the T-Rex over in pain before swooping to knock the trophy out of Animo's hands as it broke on the floor.

"NO! MY TROPHY! WHO ARE YOU, ALIEN MENACE!?"

Jetray just said nothing, trying to keep the Sumo Slammer Card in his mouth as he stole the Transmodulator helmet, leaving Animo powerless, breaking it with a continuous neuroshock burn causing Animo's T-Rex returned to its skeletal form as a wave from the device returned all the mutated animals to normal.

Ben returns to human somewhere else so he and his family can watch Animo be arrested before they get into the RV and drive away.

"Looks like I've got two rewards. This Sumo Slammer Card, and a trophy from Animo. But I suppose, saving this city from 'Dr. Horrible' was its own reward." Ben relaxed, placing his box on the table containing the Transmodulator.

"You saved Gwen, too. You know." Max added.

"Don't do it, Grandpa, he's gonna hold it over my head the whole trip now…"

"Eh, I'm better than that now, I'm a hero after all." Ben casually scoffed, "Besides, saving dweebs is what heroes do best." "You're the doofus!" "I know you are, but what am I?" Ben flashed a smile as the episode ended.
