Hey look! A Fanon Con contest with more than one participant!

No it's not late shut up you're just early.

Second Place

Reo's Entry

To be perfectly clear with you, I don't know what's going on here. It's a guy in a mask, with a knife in his back and a demon on his head. Also he's thinking of bombs and is okay, apparently. Well I can't tell who it is, so the disguise works.

Let's critique it from a more objective point of view for a second: This drawing is pretty good. The choice to draw it using marker pens and shade it using a regular pencil (as opposed to using any digital medium) gives the piece an authentically scratchy and rough appearance that works on favour of the character and what I assume he is meant to be.

About half way through writing this it suddenly clicked what this piece actually means. The guy is broken and betrayed, insane and twisted, the mask is the face he puts on so the world thinks he's normal. TL;DR: 3edgy5me.

Effectively this dialogue has been me slowly realising what Reo's piece actually means, so I give it more credit now than I did five minutes ago. Good work, Reo. I do feel like the piece is a little too try-hard in getting its message across, so I maintain that it deserves second place.

First Place

Brandon's Entry

Now this one I got the message from immediately, and I like it. I assume this one is meant to tie in to Brandon's writing entry? Don't worry, I won't hold that against it. Ben, Gwen, and Rook on the run from Vilgax's drones. The war must be lost then.

The 'disguise' motif, in the more traditional sense, isn't as present in this piece. However, the characters are by definition disguised here so it still suits the theme. This piece lets the viewer figure out what is going on, but unlike Reo's piece this drawing does a better job of not trying to force the conclusion. I don't really have a huge amount to say about this one, so I'll just leave it here. Good job, Brandon!

Congratulations to both our competitors today, for actually allowing us to have a competition in the first place. I want to see more Fanon Con competitions like this in the future, they're fun to judge.
