Plot[]

On Halloween night in Bellwood, Ben arrives at The Fictioverse wearing something concealed in his trench coat. Stuart comes out of the back room also wearing a trench coat, and he and Ben start to compliment each other on their mysterious costumes. Before the duo go out to a Halloween party, they prepare to remove their trench coats and reveal their costumes based on their comic book superhero, Fridgic, causing them to complain as they were going as the same character.

While walking on the street, Ben and Stuart continue to argue about how there is only one Fridgic, and soon arrive at the party in Ben's school auditorium. Wearing their hoods, Ben and Stuart enter the party, and Ben screams at the sight of two clowns, who reveal themselves to be Cash and J.T.. The duo laugh at Ben and his fear of clowns, but Stuart comes and insults them, claiming that they were right to choose clowns because that's what they were. Before leaving, Cash claims that Ben shouldn't have even come to the party or even wear a superhero costume. Ben gets tempted to use the Omnitrix, But Stuart stops him, telling him to just enjoy the party as Cash and J.T. weren't worth it.

During the rest of the party, Ben tries to get some candy while Stuart attempts to follow him from behind. However, Cash and J.T. suddenly ambush him by dumping a bowl of punch onto him, while everyone looks in shock. Ben rushes to Stuart and asks if they were still not worth it, but Stuart just dismisses it and goes to clean up himself while Ben reminds him that the nearest bathroom was outside the school auditorium located near the cafeteria dumpster. As Stuart walks to the bathroom, he passes the dumpster and hears scuffling sounds, but dismisses it and simply enters the bathroom. Upon exiting with his costume in his hands, Stuart passes the dumpster and hears the same sounds, claiming it to just be rats until he hears a unique liquid-like sound.

Finally deciding to investigate, Stuart approaches the dumpster and looks in surprise. In the auditorium, Ben is looking around nervously before Stuart arrives and drags him outside the party back to The Fictioverse, much to Ben's dismay. When Ben questions Stuart's actions, something begins to move within Stuart's costume he holds in his hand, silencing Ben. Upon arriving at the store, Stuart quickly covers all the windows and places his costume onto an empty table in the middle of the room. He begins to unwrap his costume, revealing a short, olive-green slug-like creature with two orange eyes on stalks on its head. Ben looks in amazement, and asks Stuart about it. Stuart claims the creature was still a mystery, prompting Ben to come up with many theories about it. Still unable to understand the creature, Ben gets an idea and turns into Hammerhack, and begins analysing the creature.

To their surprise, the creature begins to open its mouth and fire out slime from its body, leading Hammerhack to conclude that it was scared, a juvenile, and was just defending itself. While he investigates the slime, Stuart grabs a cage and places the creature in it. Hammerhack states that the slime is harmless and only has adhesive properties, seconds before turning back into Ben. Looking at the mess in the entire store, Ben helps Stuart clean it up while the creature observes them in its cage, apparently smiling at Stuart. Looking at the creature, Stuart decides to call it Lugs, prompting Ben to think that naming it would be like keeping it as a pet, so Ben decides to stay with Stuart to ensure Lugs wasn't a threat. After cleaning up, Ben and Stuart go up to the latter's apartment with Lugs in it's cage, and prepare to sleep. During the night, while the duo sleep, Lugs manages to slip out of its cage and slide under Stuart's door.

The next morning, Stuart wakes Ben up and shows him Lugs, who was extremely larger than it was before, much to Ben's shock. Stuart sees that Lugs was sleeping, concluding that it was nocturnal, and decides to open up The Fictioverse, knowing that Lugs wouldn't cause any trouble, but Ben was still suspicious. As the duo prepare to open the store for business, Ben decides to get some breakfast at a local diner, while Stuart decides to follow. As they walk, they see a large portion of Bellwood covered in slime, with certain objects destroyed. Observing the scene with worried looks, Ben and Stuart immediately rush back to the latter's apartment, finding Lugs still large and asleep. Ben claims that Lugs could've done that while they were asleep, but Stuart is reluctant to believe that Lugs could do so much damage, or even damage anything at all. Ben is still suspicious, and decides to observe Lugs when it wakes.

Later that night, after closing The Fictioverse, Ben and Stuart look around Stuart's apartment and find Lugs awake and back to its original shape. Stuart releases Lugs from its cage, and gives it a burger to feed on. After devouring the burger, Ben decides to watch Lugs' actions and asks Stuart to walk with it outside. While the duo walk outside, Lugs pops out of Stuart's coat pocket and devours some garbage. The duo looks at this unusual behaviour, before hearing screams coming from a distance. Upon finding the source, Ben and Stuart shockingly see large creatures resembling Lugs walk through the streets of Bellwood, with Lugs excitedly looking at them. The largest creature sees Lugs on Stuart's shoulder, and begins to angrily rush towards him. Ben quickly turns into Slamurai and intercepts the creature's attack, while asking Stuart to run.

As Stuart flees, all the other creatures help the biggest one overpower Slamurai, forcing him to turn into Meltter and scare them away with his large amounts of heat. Meanwhile, Stuart runs into an alley with Lugs, only to get cornered by the larger and more curvaceous creature. Lugs happily jumps of Stuart and towards the creature, who apparently ceased its rage and calmly approaches Lugs. After sharing a heartfelt reunion, the larger creature looks at Stuart, but doesn't attack him, much to his relief. However, the trio sense a large amount of heat and investigates, finding Meltter warding of the other creatures with a heat wave. The creatures back off in fear, and Meltter seems confident until he turns back into Ben. The creatures now charge towards the vulnerable Ben, but the largest creature is intercepted by the creature Stuart names Lugs mother. Ben looks in surprise as Stuart helps him up, and tells Ben his plan.

As the two creatures wrestle, Stuart calls out to the biggest one showing Lugs enshrouded in his costume. Ben subsequently turns into Powerpipe and grabs the costume, fleeing with all the other creatures in pursuit. Upon stopping at a jungle outside of Bellwood, Powerpipe looks at all the creatures following him before revealing that Lugs was just a decoy made out of slime. The real Lugs is shown on Stuart who runs in with Lugs' mother pouncing onto the biggest creature and battling with it. Upon pinning it down, Lugs mother exerts its dominance over its defeated opponent, and the entire colony bows to their new leader. As the colony departs, Lugs reunites with its mother and begins to leave with her, but it looks at Stuart and Ben. Stuart kneels onto Lugs and persuades it to follow its mother, sharing a heartfelt goodbye to Lugs. As Stuart and Ben leave, Lugs looks at them and its mother prompts it to follow the duo. As Ben and Stuart arrive in Bellwood, Ben apologises to Stuart for using force rather than reason, but Stuart just keeps silent. To the duo's surprise, Lugs returns and happily pounces onto Stuart, stating that wants to stay with him, much to the latter's joy.

The following night in Stuart's apartment, Stuart is sharpening his pencils while Lugs eats the garbage. Ben asks Stuart if he is using his new pet as a trash can, but Stuart claims it was simply symbiosis, since he learned that Lugs eats anything. Stuart also names Lugs' species Tyrassites, and begins writing a story about Lugs mother, who acquired the leadership of the colony and allowed its members to do anything they wanted, while the original leader was oppressive and wanted its colony to never leave, which explains why Lugs was allowed to leave. The duo then hear police chasing some crooks, but before Ben could activate the Omnitrix, Lugs jumps out the window onto the crooks car and seemingly eats it. Seeing this makes Ben worried about Stuart training his new pet.

Allusions[]

  • The concept of Ben and Stuart encountering a seemingly harmless creature before it becomes a major threat is based of the movie Gremlins.
  • After Lugs grows, Ben says "We're gonna need a bigger cage". This is a direct reference to the movie Jaws.
  • When trying to figure out what kind of creature Lugs is, Ben names a bunch of references to certain films.
    • Ben first says "Maybe it came from the sea 47 metres below", based of the film 47 Meters Down.
    • Ben then says, "Careful. It could get bigger when you feed it, so I'll prepare to freeze it", a reference to the film The Blob.
    • Finally, Ben says "Then again, if it grows and tries to take down Tokyo, I'll still be ready", referencing Godzilla or King Kong.
  • The herd of Tyrassites wrecking Bellwood to find a child of its species is based of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, where the T. Rex father does the same thing.
  • Stuart places his hand onto Lugs' head, apparently taming him. This technique was inspired by the dragon training technique in the How To Train Your Dragon franchise.
