The Fame that Tore Us Apart is the first episode of Omniverse: At Night.

Plot

The episode begins with a flashback of the ending of the Ultimate Alien finale. Ben is shocked to see Azmuth standing in front of him, who demands to have Ascalon handed to him, with Ben obliging to his command. Disappointed, Azmuth then demands to have the Ultimatrix, which Ben thought he had deemed himself worthy to have the official Omnitrix, which Azmuth tells him to look at his wrist.

Ben is astonished to find the official Omnitrix on his wrist, glowing to show off it's design. Azmuth elaborates to Ben, that this Omnitrix was made shortly after the prototype he had found back when he was ten years old, as Ben claims he doesn't know how to repay him. With Azmuth eventually gone, Julie, Gwen and Kevin stand with him, as he gives a heroic smile.

Cut to present day Bellwood. Ben, Gwen and Kevin were hanging out at Mr. Smoothy, with the sky being pitch black due to the trio usually hanging out during the late hours. Since no threats had been happening for the fast few weeks, Ben feels like Bellwood was so mundane, and how nothing felt the same as to when he used to save the world. Since Ben is free from his duties as a superhero, Gwen gives him the idea of going to college, but Ben immediately turns it down, since he thought it wouldn't be worth going if any villain were to strike without any notice from Ben. With Kevin bringing up the idea of getting a job since Ben hasn't really gotten any work experience, and Gwen seeming to like that idea, Ben turns it down, as he then wishes his secret identity wasn't exposed to the entire planet.

Gwen tells Ben that the exposé was unintentional, with Ben bringing up the part where he told Ultimate Kevin that he didn't like being famous. Confused, Kevin didn't remember what had happened, as Ben then sidetracked, forgetting that Kevin wouldn't have remembered those events, due to his mutation. Gwen then ensures Ben that he'd be fine, as Ben thanks her, giving her a much needed smile of warmth.

They eventually leave Mr. Smoothy, as they stayed silent throughout Ben's trip home, as Gwen was reading a book, and Ben was looking out the car window. By the time they arrived at Ben's house, Gwen wanted to tell Ben something, but chose not to, since it wasn't the right time. As Ben had exited the car, and heading inside his house through the front door, Kevin takes off, as Ben is greeted by his parents, who welcome him, as they give him a hug he most definetly needed, since he had spent six years saving the world.

Exhausted, Ben departs to his room as he takes off his jacket, among other clothes, as the scene then transitions to him in his nighttime attire, sleeping in his bed, as all the house lights were off. The time reveals it to be around three in the morning, as he is woken up to his phone ringing. Waking up, with bed hair, and a tiresome look on his face, Ben grabs his phone and answers it, talking to what appeared to be Gwen on the phone, who wishes to talk to him, despite having to go to sleep. Ben agrees to this idea, as he gets ready, keeping his phone in his hand, as he would later on leave the house, hanging up.

Ben gets in his own car as he is a little confused as to why Gwen wanted to hang out, but he still went witn the idea, as he drove to her house, using the satnav to guide him, since he doesn't know where abouts she lives, since only visiting a few times, thanks to Kevin driving him there. Eventually, he arrives at Gwen's house, as she had been standing outside, waiting for him. He gets out of his car, as he is greeted by Gwen, who walks inside, with Ben following along.

The camera cuts to Gwen and Ben in Gwen's bedroom, with Ben standing around, and Gwen sitting on her bed with her legs crossed. Gwen thanks Ben for coming, as she began to grab out a book, starting to read. Ben had thought of the idea to travel back in time to prevent his secret identity from being exposed, while Gwen tries to talk him out of it, telling Ben about the time she tried preventing Ben and Kevin from hacking the Omnitrix, which caused Kevin's mutation. Ben did not understand, had he not been there to experience it, as Gwen would continue to say that she was killed in the timeline where she finally prevented it from happening, and how Ben was enslaved by Hex. Ben would continue to persuade Gwen to help him, but Gwen would continue to disagree with the idea, before eventually giving in because of Ben's arrogant behaviour and constant pestering.

Gwen would cast a spell which opened up a triangular portal as both Ben and Gwen would jump in, finding themselves outside, at night, somewhere around downtown Bellwood. Gwen would confirm that they're at the night before Ben's secret identity was exposed to the world. They didn't have much time, though, but Ben knew what he had to do. With Ben using his new Omnitrix for the first time, he activated it by dialling the alien of his choosing. Gwen tells Ben that he needed to use an alien who could get there as fast as they could, resulting in Ben transforming into his first alien inside the new watch: Fasttrack. Fasttrack would grab hold of Gwen as he'd sprint to find the location of the person who exposed Ben's identity.

Upon reaching the block of apartments, which didn't exactly take long because of Fasttrack's speed, Fasttrack transforms back into Ben as he lets go of Gwen, looking up at the apartments that the person was inside. They entered as they would walk up a certain amount of stairs, feeling a little scared, even though they'd already met them before. They notice that the door was locked, as Ben would look through the the little window to see inside. Gwen insists on knocking, but Ben claims to have a better idea, but is cut short by Gwen who knocks on the door. The door eerily opens as Mrs. Jones stands in front of them, who recognises them both due to them introducing themselves. Jimmy then runs in, finding the two teenagers standing there, as they're told to come in.

The scene transitions to Jimmy's bedroom, as Jimmy was on his computer, with Ben and Gwen standing behind him. Jimmy asks as to why they're both here, as Gwen gives him the details. Shocked, but more so confused, Jimmy asks Ben why he doesn't want his identity known to the world, as Ben explains that superhero identities are supposed to remain a secret, giving him more information about paparazzis, among other things. This is cut short with an entry of Professor Paradox, who spoke about the consequences of rewriting the timeline, but Ben tells Paradox about the fact that Jimmy was going to expose his secret identity to the world. Paradox informs Ben that it was meant to happen, but Ben wouldn't allow that for an answer.

Gwen asks Jimmy about the footage he had found of Ben transforming into certain aliens, as Jimmy finds video footage of Ben with Gwen and Kevin fighting the Forever Knights as Jetray, whom he mistakenly calls Jeffrey. Gwen backs a few paces as she began thinking for a moment, while Ben thought it was a bit creepy to watch people take down threats capable of destroying a planet, or even conquering one. With Paradox warning Ben to not interfere with his secret identity getting exposed, he eventually leaves, as Ben and Gwen were just about to leave, when all of a sudden, they could feel the ground shaking. Gwen looks out of the window, as the threat is identified to be Vulkanus, as they'd take a leave, but Ben warns Jimmy to not expose his identity, as Jimmy promises not to do so, as Ben follows Gwen outside.

With Gwen and Ben exiting the building, and finding Vulkanus causing havoc, Gwen ejects a mana blast at his direction, which causes him to look over, as he catches glimpse of both Ben and Gwen, who he charges at. Ben transforms into Chromastone, as he would fend off the bigger villain, who seemed to one-shot Chromastone, who claims to be tired. Gwen uses this moment as a distraction as she would cast a spell which safely transports both her and Chromastone back into the normal timeline, with Chromastone transforming back into Ben. Ben asks Gwen why she transported each other back to the present, to which she tells him that they've already messed the past enough, to which Ben shrugs.

Gwen, however, thanks him again for coming round, as Ben would return the favour, before telling her that he would head home, as he'd leave her house, taking off in his car, before the scene transitions to Ben's house, with the early morning sky getting closer by each second, just a few minutes after Ben got home, quickly getting into his room and head to sleep. The episode ends with Ben knowing now, that his indentity is now a secret, and he wishes it to remain that way.
