The Bunker is the forty-first episode of the series, Mutant Drake.

Plot[]

In the sky, passing through, the Jumpjet is seen flying through the dark clouds as a storm seems to be occurring around them. Inside the Jumpjet, Jake is piloting and looking around while Fionna sits in the co-pilot seat beside him.

Fionna: Something wrong?

Jake: Yeah, I'm trying to figure out where this storm came from... It was clear skies just a moment ago.

Fionna: (sigh) I'll try activating the device in a moment so we can get a sense of where to go next.

Jake, turning to her: Maybe we should just head back to headquarters. Take a break and figure things out from there.

Fionna: I understand that you're worried, Jake, but I can't afford to take a break. We'll just have to make due. I can handle this.

Jake: Alright.

He turns his attention back to piloting when Elias soon enters the cockpit.

Elias: Hey, are we there yet?

Jake: No, there's a storm so I doubt we're going to get anywhere anytime soon.

Elias: That's because you're flying through the Pacific. If you went through the Atlantic, it would've been faster.

Jake: T-There's a reason I did that.

Elias: You're just figuring this all out, aren't ya?

Jake: We haven't exactly flown outside of the country before...

He sighs and just focuses on piloting. Elias smirks and looks ahead at the clouds outside with thunder muffled by the exterior.

Elias: Still, it's kinda bad out there, huh?

A yell is then heard from the back, grabbing the attention of all three of them.

Fionna: Was that... Drake?

Jake: Can you guys see what's up?

Elias: Y-Yeah, sure thing.

Elias heads to the back again while Fionna gets up from her seat to join him. When they get to the back they see Drake panting with a heavy sweat on his face.

Fionna: Drake?

Elias: Yo, are you okay, man?

Drake, through heavy breaths: It's calling me.

Fionna: What is?

Drake: The bunker...

Title Sequence

The scene continues in the back of the Jumpjet. Drake is laying down on the bench while Zara has her hands against the sides of his head.

Elias: Hey, are you sure this is going to help?

Zara: Sh!

Elias: S-Sorry.

Zara: This is a technique that my father taught me. It's supposed to allow me to peer into the mind of someone and see what ails them.

Fionna: And what do you see?

Zara: ...It's hard to tell. Drake's mind is different from others that I've practiced on in the village. Whatever is calling to him is reaching a part of his mind that he is either not using or not aware of.

Elias: What does that actually mean?

Zara: I honestly don't know.

Jake: (sigh) Well for now, the storm seems to going away but still-

Drake: Don't worry about me.

He says this as he sits up from Zara's hands.

Elias: Not gonna lie, man, but this is something to worry about. Ever since you talked to that chick your head hasn't been in the game.

Fionna: I hate to say it but I agree. What is going on with you?

Drake: It's not something I like to talk about but... sometimes I get to see my memories like I was there. Memories that I've forgotten a long time ago. Last year, I saw more of my childhood. Things like my parents, the first Incident, Hunters... Today I saw my life in that fishing village but I also saw something else...

Fionna: The bunker?

Drake nods.

Elias: What's the bunker?

Drake, shaking his head: I don't know.

Elias: Maybe it's a dream.

Jake: No. It's real. These are his memories that he's seeing. That means at one point, you went to a bunker.

Zara: But it doesn't connect to his other memories. So why appear now?

Jake: Speaking of appearing, how come we didn't see you, Zara?

Elias: Yeah, you missed out on the action.

Fionna: We could have used your help out there.

Zara: I know... and I'm sorry. I thought I could handle it but I couldn't.

Drake: We can talk about it later.

Zara: Actually I don't think we can. At first, I thought I wasn't feeling like it so I was shopping at the marketplace for ingredients but then I realized what I was feeling wasn't coming from me. It was coming from you, Drake.

Drake: Me?

Zara: Those voices you heard in your head. That is real. And it's coming from somewhere else. I don't know why I felt it but... it was overwhelming. That's why I couldn't help you guys.

Jake: This sounds important.

Drake: Not as important as finding Fionna's family.

Elias: Yeah but even if we do, you won't be at your best if you keep experiencin' this kind of thing.

Fionna: They're right, Drake.

Zara: If I had to guess, I think the reason why it's happening more lately is because we're close to where the call is coming from.

Jake: Huh? But we're in the middle of the ocean. There's nothing out here but a few islands.

Drake: ...That's it.

They all look at him.

Drake: It's coming from an island. I know it.

Jake: Hm... you think that storm could be connected to this feeling you're getting?

Drake: I don't know... but if that's true then we passed the island.

Jake looks down in thought before turning to Fionna.

Jake: Hey, Fionna. Can you try using your gift and see if your family is close to where we are?

Fionna: Hm? Oh... sure. That's a good idea.

She reaches for her chest and turns the device clockwise. Soon enough, it activates- emanating a bright glow from the center lens. She then closes her eyes and reaches her hand out as she uses her gift. It takes a moment but she soon grunts as if feeling something.

Fionna: Yes. I can sense one of them... it's a girl this time. My sister.

Jake: Which direction? Is it back towards the storm?

Fionna: No. It's in the direction where we were heading. Maybe downwards more. Wherever she is, it's quite warm.

Jake: I was taking us back to America... there's a chance, if she's still out of country, that she could be in South America.

Elias: Yeesh, you'd think we could have gotten there first instead of going to Japan.

Fionna stops and turns the device anti-clockwise, deactivating it. She takes a breath before turning to Jake.

Fionna: So, what do you want to do?

Elias: Since we're already on the way, we could make it there before Casey.

Zara: But we leave the island behind, Drake might not be able to recover again.

Drake: That's... a risk I'm willing to take.

Jake: No. I can't put one of these things above the other. If I abandon Fionna's family or risk your health, Drake, then what kind of friend can I call myself? This is my call to make as leader of the team.

Fionna: So what is it going to be?

Jake: We'll turn back for the island... but Drake you'll have to go on your own. We can't throw away a lead like this so... I'll only have enough time to fly over.

Drake: Then that's enough.

Jake: We'll come back for you when the mission is over.

Elias: Whoa, hang on. He's going on an island with a spooky bunker that's calling to him on his own.

Jake: Drake's tougher than he looks. He's handled worse things. If I could, I would go with. I'm sure we all would but Fionna's sister needs us too.

Drake: You don't have to explain it to me. (gets up) The Helpers have a job to do. I guess... this is something I have to do for myself.

Jake: Let's get you to the island, buddy.

Jake turns back to the cockpit and vanishes from view. Drake glances down and sighs before Fionna places a hand on his shoulder.

Fionna: I wish I could help. After what you've done for me, it feels wrong that I can't be there for you.

Drake: Thanks but you have enough things to worry about, Fionna.

He looks off to the side.

Drake: Sometimes we have to face things on our own.

She looks at him for a moment before glancing down, herself. The scene soon cuts away to the Jumpjet passing by the view as it flies quickly beneath the storm. Lightning cracks through the air, just barely hitting the Jumpjet.

Elias, in the co-pilot seat: YO! This is some crazy flying you're doing, you know!

Jake, piloting: I know, I know! But this is the only way we can curve back on your flight path without losing much time. I've done this before.

Elias: Y-Yeah, as yourself flying through the air, not in a freakin' plane.

The door hatch lowers and the roaring winds soon blow through the back of the Jumpjet as Drake approaches the opening. Fionna and Zara stand behind him, bracing themselves as the winds from the storm outside bellow about.

Fionna: H-Hey, are you sure about this?

Drake: I have to know what this bunker is.

Fionna: I understand, Drake. I do. But you haven't been back here in a while.

Zara: She's right. This could make your memory worse.

Drake: Didn't you say this would help?

Zara: Only by facing it. You have to accept the truth. No matter what it is. That might help your memory but... I don't know what it will do to your psyche.

Drake: Then I guess there's only one way to find out.

Drake says this as he lowers his googles onto his face, becoming the Vigilante.

Elias, calling out from the cockpit: Island approaching! Good luck, Drake!

Fionna: I hope you find what you're looking for down there, Drake.

Drake: You too.

He looks away from her to the opening and jumps down. The Jumpjet flies off as Drake dives down, passing through several clouds. The clouds then clear up and the island below becomes clear.

He then kicks the air as if to slow his fall while also forming the Stealth Wing form upon his back. The wings flap through the air, making his descent easier with each flap. Still, the storm does not make it as easy as it usually may be. He soon lowers enough to reach the shore and touches down- reverting his form back to normal. He then looks around. The shoreline... it's familiar. The Vigilante watches something in the distance where a little dock can be seen.

Voice: Let go of me!

Another Voice: Quiet or I'll end you right here and now!

Drake looks around for the voices but the sound of thunder causes the voices to fade away. He holds the side of his head as a faint ringing is heard.

Jake, over the comms: Dr- ke- Drake, you read me?

Drake takes a breath before reaching for his comms. He activates it.

Vigilante: Yeah... I'm here. This is the island.

Jake, over the comms: Okay, just checking in. We're getting out of -ange so I don't know how long I can -eping talking for. Wh- -ssion is over, we'll come b-k and pick you up from the sh- re, al-ght?

Vigilante: Yeah, I'll be there.

There is no response.

Vigilante: Jake?

Still no response. He sighs and turns to the side, making his way to move further into the island. He walks along a path that moves from the beach into a forested area. The scene cuts to a moment later as the Vigilante continues moving through the forest until he reaches a clearing. His mouth opens slightly as if in surprise as he overlooks the skyline of the island. There are a few towns and such that have been destroyed which is clear from even this distance- as well as a few encampments, but the place looks pretty overgrown and unlively. He takes a short sigh before turning his head and seeing the cell-tower in the distance as well. He tilts his head slightly as soon grasps the side of his head suddenly.

A Male Voice: You're one of them...

A Female Voice: DRAKE!

He shakes his head and looks up to see a Mutant creature gnawing on some of the grass; it's large and bovine in appearance with horns protruding from its head. It rears its head towards him and lets out a raspy roar. The Vigilante then readies his fists only for the creature to turn and run off. He lowers his fists and grunts.

Vigilante: Wasn't much of a fight...

He then hears a twig snapping behind him and looks off to the side. After a brief moment, the Vigilante side steps out of the way of a talon but is still struck across the chest by a wide tail. He tumbles across the field and looks up, bearing his teeth. Before him is a Mutant creature with reptilian skin, four eyes and talons protruding from its skin. It roars out and swipes its tail at the Vigilante once again, who ducks down to avoid it. He gets up and the tail comes back around, forcing him to clutch it and hang on for dear life. The creature roars out as it frails him through the air. The Vigilante then lets go and is thrown up into the air. As he comes down, he forms his Acidic Thorns form and slashes down at the Mutant causing it to roar out again. The Vigilante drops down onto the ground and stretches his arms ahead, wrapping them around the Mutant before pulling it around with all his strength. He then unwraps the axes and lets the Mutant go flying off before it crashes down into some trees. The Vigilante takes a breath but stops when hearing other types of roars in the short distance.

Vigilante: Grgh! Can't stay here. I have to keep moving.

He runs off and forms the Hover Speed as he does so, hovering away. The scene then cuts over to the Jumpjet flying through the air towards the coast of another country.

Ecuador
March 26, 23:38 EDT

On board, Jake continues piloting with Fionna still remaining in the co-pilot seat.

Jake: Alright, we should be heading down towards the city. I might need you to use your gift so we can find her more exact location.

Fionna: Yeah... of course.

Jake: What's up? You seem... unsure.

Fionna: No, it's not that. It's just... I guess I'm just thinking about Drake.

Jake: Like I said, he'll be fine. Of course, I'm worried too but he was able to handle an entire city on his own before we ever showed up. This is an island.

Fionna: You do realize that island is bigger Manhattan, right?

Jake: Uh... yeah. Now I do. (sigh) Sometimes I keep wondering if I make the right calls.

Fionna: What?

Jake: Nothing, it's just- look, I'm worried about you and Drake. And since Drake's not here...

Fionna: You're worried about me. I get it.

Jake: So?

Fionna: I just don't want to screw this up again.

Jake: And you won't. Remember we're a team.

Fionna looks at him and nods, before looking ahead. The Jumpjet then, later, lands on a beach close by some trees. The hatch then opens and the team exits in their gear and suits.

Zara: So... where are we this time?

Caliber: Ecuador. I think this is Guayaquil.

Defender: Uh, actually... yeah. That's what the maps said.

Ember: How'd you know?

Caliber: My abuela told me about it.

He gets a few looks.

Caliber: Uh... my grandma. Gee, for a bunch of different people coming together, you guys don't know much from outside the States.

Zara: I was born in a village... what's their excuse?

Fionna: I was underground growing up...

Defender: And I'm literally from another time.

Caliber: I thought you were just asleep or something.

Defender: Yeah but my thing sounded cooler... (sigh) Whatever, we just to find Fionna's sister and get her somewhere safe before Casey comes to take her. You got that device ready?

Ember: Yeah, just give me a second to-

Before she can finish her sentence, a loud noise is heard. She turns her head and see smoke rising up in the distance.

Caliber: Yeah or maybe we don't need it.

Zara: What is that? A Mutant?

Defender: We probably shouldn't interfere but... there could be people in trouble.

Ember: Or it might be my sister in trouble. Either way, we have to do something.

Defender nods.

Defender: Alright, I'll scout ahead. You guys, follow me.

Defender hovers into the air and flies off with Ember, Caliber and Zara following after. The scene cuts to a bridge over two roads with cars being lifted up from the ground and tossed through the air. The vehicles smash into buildings and the street. One of them flies past Defender while he uses his energy device to suspend one in mid-air before setting it down. He then looks ahead and sees what looks like a tornado on the bridge- flinging the cars about. Defender flies over and places his hand by his ear, activating his comms.

Defender: Alright, I have sight of the problem. Looks like some kind of tornado or something. I'm going in for a closer- WHOA!

He then pushes back, stopping in mid-air as he hovers out of the way of a large truck which comes crashing against the street behind him. Defender looks back with surprise.

Ember, over the comms: Jake, are you alright?

Defender: I'm fine. Just watch out for cars.

Caliber, over the comms: Man, you're worried about traffic? This ain't New York.

Defender: At this rate, that seems better.

Defender gets back up into the air and makes his way over the bridge. He dodges out of the way of two more cars and throws his arm out- unleashing an energy spike from his gauntlet. It pierces the tornado but to no avail.

Defender: Just what is this- NGH!

He then finds himself being pulled in. He raises his gauntlet back as if trying to maneuver away from the tornado but he slowly but surely finds himself sucked in. Ember then drops down onto the street and looks ahead to see Defender vanish into the tornado's winds.

Ember: D-Defender!

Ember throws his hands back and propels herself up into the air using her fire. She then launches herself towards the bridge as more cars come hurling her way. She kicks off from one car and onto the next. Then she jumps from that one and launches a fireball at the tornado- which gets caught up in the wind currents and blows back at Ember. Her eyes widen behind her domino mask as the fireball impacts her, causing her to fall and hit the street. Caliber and Zara soon make it to the scene.

Caliber: So, that's what he meant by cars...

Zara: Is that... an actual tornado?

Caliber: And I thought the floods were bad. Come on, I think Ember needs us.

Caliber runs over with Zara going at her own pace. Caliber then helps Ember up and looks ahead at the tornado above on the bridge.

Ember: We have to get up there. It took Defender.

Caliber: What? It just ate him? Just like that?

Ember: Yes! Just like that.

Caliber: Well, just shoot a fireball at it.

Ember: I did...

Caliber: Well then, do it again!

Ember: I can't, last time I did that it chucked it right back at me. Besides when I tried that out with Danny, it set him on fire. If that happens here, Jake will get caught up in that too.

Caliber: We can't just wait. That thing is chucking more cars all over the place.

Zara then arrives and simply looks up at the bridge, seeing the tornado. She then closes her eyes and holds her hands out; her palms emit a faint glow of light as if she's about to use her powers.

Zara, under her breath: Thanatis Icatis Exodus Collapse...

The tornado then starts to strengthen before collapsing around itself. The winds unravel, whipping around the area and throwing both Defender and a feminine figure through the air.

Caliber: Whoa! Zara, did you do that?

Ember: More importantly, those two are going to fall!

Defender seems to stir awake and raises his arm up which allows the energy device on his wrist to cause him to hover in the air, ceasing his fall. He then turns his head and see the girl fall past him.

Defender: Ah! Don't worry, I've-

He reaches his hand out but the girl falls down gently as her sweater seems to expand from the bottom.

Defender: -got you?

She then touches down gracefully and turns to face the Helpers. Her face is round-ish with a pointed chin. She has dull-looking eyes with bags beneath them. There are also some black lines in her skin protruding from her eyes down to the sides of her face which are obscured by her bangs. She has short auburn hair and brown eyes. She just stands there, looking at them carefully.

Ember, over the comms: Hey, are you okay?

Defender: Yeah. Yeah...

Ember, over the comms: What is she doing?

Defender: She's just standing there... menacingly.

Ember squints beneath her mask at the girl and takes a step forward.

Caliber: Ay, be careful. She was flipping cars earlier and she took Defender captive.

Ember: Hang on, I think...

She keeps walking ahead slowly with the girl tilting her head, curiously.

Ember, calling out to her: Do you... know me?

The girl looks at no one else but Ember and starts to walk over to her slowly. The two then meet in the middle of the street and look at each other. As Ember raises her hand, the girl does the same until their hands meet and their fingers touch- releasing a shining light from their fingertips.

Ember: ...It is you. You're the sister I've been looking for.

The girl nods.

Ember: But why... why do all this?

Defender, over the comms: I don't think she did... anything.

Ember, looking up at him: What do you mean?

Defender looks around and sees the damages around them.

Defender: The street is actually clear of any people. I don't see a civilian in sight. I'm guessing not a lot of people come out this late at night, either that or she cleared the area before we got here.

Ember: So... were you just doing this for attention?

The girl points her finger at Ember.

Ember: ...For my attention?

She nods.

Girl: We don't have much time... He's coming for me, I can... feel it.

Ember: Who-

Girl: Our brother.

Ember looks at her, surprised. The scene then cuts back to the island, some time later. On it, the Vigilante is seen approaching an encampment. He looks around, seeing signs of destructions from long ago. The encampment, itself, is barely standing with the walls broken down and debris scattered all over the area.

Sanctuary
March 27, 2:19 EDT

He steps inside through the busted down gate and looks around. He glances down and the lens of his goggles veer as if zooming in slightly. He then sees an old-looking doll on the floor. He kneels down and picks it up.

Voice: What's going on?

The Vigilante turns his head and sees a child standing there. He is wearing blue overalls over a white shirt. He has ginger hair and blue eyes.

Vigilante: W-What?

Lenny: Where is everyone?

Vigilante: Lenny?

Lenny: You're not going to leave... right?

Vigilante: N-No. I'm- I'm just- You're- How are you-

He takes a step back and the child fades before him.

Lenny: DON'T LEAVE ME!

The Vigilante drops the doll and winds up tripping back over a piece of debris. The noise seems to have awakened something from within the theater at the back of the encampment as a growl is heard from within it. The Vigilante gets up and soon sees, through his googles, a stocky-looking Mutant with tentacles for arms, four legs, and a large mouth. It has six eyes at the top of its head which shift in multiple directions as he slithers out from within the theater. It opens its large mouth as a whole skeleton drops from it, covered in a goo-like saliva. The Vigilante then readies his arms as the Mutant mumbles and races towards him. He then activates the Fire Fists form and socks the creature across the side of its head with his right fist before slamming its side with his left fist. The Mutant then attempts to lay on him and swallow him whole but the Vigilante raises his hands and lifts the creature in the air, burning its skin with his touch. He then tosses it into the wall of the encampment causing it to collapse further. The Vigilante then breathes in heavily as he looks down at the creature which mumbles more and slithers away.

Vigilante: It's all in my head... If I let it get to me, the real danger will get me here. But how am I supposed to find this bunker?

He looks around then stops upon seeing something. In the far distance, is a metallic man watching him. It has a metal humanoid body with a single glass eye on its head. It seems so small from this far away but it's clear enough to see that it is watching the Vigilante intently. The Vigilante has an expression, beneath his goggles, that shows he's caught off guard. He then clenches his fists and makes his way over there. It starts with a slow walk before it escalates into a full-on run. The metallic man then walks to the side, behind a tree. When the Vigilante reaches the tree and runs behind it, the metallic man is no longer there. He looks back and forth but there is no sign of the man. It was as if he no longer existed.

Vigilante: Is this... another vision?

He turns his head again, glancing off to the side. He then hears more Mutants roaring and howling.

Vigilante: No, can't stay here. I should wait until day... then I'll find it.

He walks off to the side, making his way into a nearby town. The scene then cuts to a building towering over other buildings back in the city. Since the sky is dark, it's almost as if little time has passed at all.

Manhattan Municipal Building
March 27, 2:28 EDT

Emmett is then seen stepping off of an elevator and walking down a hall, in his navy blue suit and black tie. He looks around before stepping into an office.

Emmett: Uh... hello?

A man looks away from the window and turns to face Emmett. He's an older man wearing a dark suit and crimson tie. He has black, slicked back hair with grey sides and brown eyes.

Man: Ah, Mr. Murphy. Thank you for taking the time to visit. I know these hours must seem unusual, you're quite the busy man after all.

Emmett: No, no. It's actually good timing. My business associates are away on business right now so-

Man: Yes, that's actually what I've been meaning to talk to you about. If you don't mind, of course.

Emmett: Uh, excuse me?

Man: Your business associates. Well, it's no secret that Murphy Industries has been funding the vigilante group known as the Helpers. After all, what they did for our city- sorry, the city- was beyond what anyone could have asked for.

Emmett: Of course. Their efforts helped stop an... alien invasion, if you will. I just felt like the funding would help them be able to save more people.

Man: Yes. I have no doubt that you're working very closely with them.

Emmett looks at him for a moment before taking a breath.

Emmett: Mr. Fullerton, what exactly is this... about?

Mr. Fullerton: Yes, I believe I should explain. You see, Mr. Murphy, lately there has been an overabundance of Mutant activity in the city unlike any that we have seen before. Now you're a man from Philly so I understand if you're not familiar with our city's history so allow me to explain.

Emmett: Please, do.

Mr. Fullerton: The MCA had kept Mutants, and I mean the monstrous creatures, out of the city for years. But with the attack of that psychopath who unleashed creature after creature on the city, the outbreaks have just been coming and coming until well- we were overrun. It then began to settle because of the efforts of the Vigilante and the MCA but then the invasion happened. Not only aliens but people with Mutant abilities were now in the city.

Emmett: Yes, as they explained it to me... the aliens had converted these Mutants into their own kind. When the Helpers had defeated them, they changed back into their regular selves.

Mr. Fullerton: I see... Well, that still left the city with quite the problem. They had Mutant civilians living in the city. And they weren't even from New York.

Emmett: Yes, that was... an issue.

Mr. Fullerton: Yes. Now, I'm not blaming anyone here. The city was overwhelmed with the aftermath of that invasion. That included the police, the Helpers, everyone. And yet, another Incident happened and the city was bombarded with even more people with abilities and other mutations. This isn't just about the people with Mutant powers being dropped into the city, these are actual citizens that have mutated. That are being attacked or doing the attacking.

Emmett: Sir, is there a reason you're telling me this?

Mr. Fullerton: Mr. Murphy, the city is in chaos, quite frankly. It needs a leader. Now while there are... new figures coming into the spotlight.

Emmett scoffs.

Emmett: What? You mean Reeves?

Mr. Fullerton: I didn't want to say it knowing your history but yes. He's been making some good suggestions about dealing with Mutants in this city. Suggestions that the public is eating up. But I have... a different idea. One that you might be able to make a reality.

Emmett: A different idea? What do you mean?

Mr. Fullerton: I'm talking about a way to help these people. You may not know this but the amount of arrests and detainments by police and MCA had skyrocketed in the last year. Not to mention those freaky murders by that wolf-thing. Since those were people that didn't live in New York, no one batted an eye but now that it's our citizens, I think something needs to be done so that what happened last year doesn't happen this year.

Emmett: You're suggesting some kind of pardon for Mutant individuals.

Mr. Fullerton: Something like that. More like an law that, if approved, can allow people with new Mutant abilities to remain as citizens without being treated like the monsters that actually hurt people. Think about it: The MCA has too much on their plate so even if they hate the idea, saying yes would relieve the new director. And less trouble on the streets of the city means good news for everyone.

Emmett: Except Reeves.

Mr. Fullerton: Hey, I know you guys don't get along but Reeves actually wants to help people. He just has a different way of showing it. Now the reason I asked for you in particular, Emmett, is because you have a connection to the Helpers. You know their perspective and their plans, assumingly, so maybe... you can speak for them.

Emmett: (sigh) Butch, I don't know. I'm- I'm just the funder.

Mr. Fullerton: Please, Emmett. Any input from the Helpers would help this law become a reality in the city and you know it. The public trusts the Helpers, they're the only Mutants that are universally likable. And if the public likes it, the Mayor has to bend the knee.

Emmett: I'm not a politician, Fullerton. I'm a businessman.

Mr. Fullerton: And I'm not asking you to be one. Just put in a good word, say a few things and that's it. I'll be doing most of the work here. And this won't screw you over with the Helpers, either. If anything, you're doing them a favor by keeping people safe. Assaulting an enhanced individual would be the same as assaulting another man or woman. Which, of course, is unheard of. That's the future I'm working towards. Isn't that what you're hoping for too?

Emmett: Y-Yeah... I hope so too.

Mr. Fullerton: Then you'll do this?

Emmett: Yes. I'll help make this law a reality for the city... and its people.

Mr. Fullerton: I know what you said but keep this up and politics might not be far from your repertoire, my friend.

Emmett: No, haha. I'll leave that to you. My focus is on my company and, of course, helping out the little guy.

Mr. Fullerton: You remind me of your father. I knew that when you took over the company, it was in good hands.

The two of them shake hands smiling. The scene then cuts back to Ecuador, with the sun coming up on the horizon. The skyline is seen with many houses next to and around one another. One in particular is a brown house with a very box-like appearance with a raised roof.

Valdez Household
March 27, 5:44 EDT

Inside the home, the Helpers can be seen lounging around; specifically Elias and Zara with Jake looking around at her home. Fionna is looking outside the window, holding her chest or rather laying her hand against the device on her chest. With the exception of Zara and Jake, they still have their costumes minus the masks.

Elias: Can you guys remind me why we're just sitting around in her house?

Jake: We can't exactly rush her.

Elias: Sure we can. She wants to come with us, we can get in the ship and fly back to the States. Easy as that.

Zara: Easy as that.

Jake: No, not that easy as that. She was insistent on coming back to her house so... that's where we are. I'm just thankful we have a sibling that willing to work with us.

Fionna: She needs some time. Maybe we can leave in the morning.

Elias: Uh, how about no? That's a terrible idea. Casey could be here any minute.

Fionna: He won't. I know she said he's coming but I used the device to amplify my gift and I didn't sense him yet which means we have time. She's tired and scared and we're all here so we can protect her even if he does show up.

Zara: It must be hard for her...

Elias: What do you mean?

Zara: She's forced to leave a place she called home for most of her life because something was pushed onto her by someone else. I understand what she's feeling...

Fionna: Then you know we have to be gentle with her.

Elias: (scoff) Yeah, yeah, alright. We'll stay the freaking night.

Fionna smiles.

Fionna: Thank you.

Elias' face reddens slightly and he turns away.

Elias: Whatever. I didn't do it for you. Just... I sympathize that's all.

Zara looks at Elias.

Jake: I have to say, she keeps things really... cozy here. It's simple but comfortable. Actually, now that I think about it, she must have parents here, right? Or at least, someone looking after her?

Fionna: She uh... didn't say too much. Not even to me. All I know is her name is Ciel, she likes the park, nature and she feels safe her in her home. I'm guessing she doesn't leave much.

Zara: She could've reached out to you because she was afraid of confrontation.

Jake: Confrontation? Like violence?

Elias: You could've fooled me. Although, she does look like a little-

Fionna glares.

Elias: ...sensitive young lady.

Jake: Well, if Casey isn't on his way right now then... I guess we should just be ready for the morning and get our rest here.

Fionna: Something tells me you're not going straight to bed... or futon, in this case.

Jake: I'm... gonna make a call.

Elias: At this hour?

Jake: Trust me, it'll be worth it.

The scene then cuts to the morning by the coast. Bubbles are then seen rising from the water as Casey rises from the water as it drips from his long, black hair. He then walks from the water and onto the sand. He breaths in the air around him and cracks his neck. He then raises his hand and pushes the water aside to reveal an air pocket under the water. Victor then emerges from the air pocket and steps onto the beach, without a sign of getting wet. He stands besides Casey, standing up straighter than before, which makes him tower over Casey in height. He also seems to have a pressing look in his eyes.

Victor: She's... here?

Casey: Yes. Our dear sister.

He tilts his head slightly.

Victor: Something wrong?

Casey: No, it's nothing. Nothing we can't handle anyways. Come now, brother. We have another family member to liberate.

The scene cuts once more, returning back to the Valdez residence. Ciel steps out from her room, carrying a brown backpack on her back. She's wearing a beige turtleneck and some black bike shorts beneath it. She also appears short in stature.

Elias: (yawn) So, are we ready to get moving already?

Fionna turns to Ciel who looks up at her. Ciel nods quietly, as usual. Her expression seems... a bit downhearted.

Fionna: I know this is a sudden change for you. You feel safe and comfortable here but trust me, we have a whole tower where you'll feel even safer. It might take some getting used to but I think as long as we're together, that's all that matters.

Ciel smiles faintly and hugs her sister. Fionna is a little caught off guard by the hug but comforts her sister as well.

Jake: Alright, we should probably get going before we have company.

Fionna: Right, let's get back to the Jumpjet and get her back to the city.

They all exit the residence, with Ciel moving at a steady pace.

Elias, noticing this: What did you pack in that bag of yours, rocks?

Ciel glances at Elias but then lowers her head.

Elias: I mean- if you're into rocks, that's not bad either.

Zara: I'm guessing books.

Elias: Huh? Oh yeah, that makes sense too...

Once Fionna gets far enough from the house, she grasps the side of her side suddenly.

Jake: Fionna? What is it?

She slowly lowers her hand from her head and lets out a breath. She then turns and looks at Jake, giving him a weak expression.

Fionna: It's Casey. He found her.

Jake: Then we don't have much time. Come on, let's go. Now!

Jake takes the lead, rushing down the street, while the others follow behind.

Elias: I knew we should've left at night.

Elias puts his mask back on and rushes ahead to catch up with the others. As they run down the street to reach the Jumpjet, a figure blocks their way as Casey looks up with a twisted grin on his face. The Helpers stop where they are.

Casey: Well, if it isn't Fionna and her inconvenient friends...

Fionna takes Ciel by the hand and turns back only for Victor to launch himself from the ground and land before them in the street.

Fionna: V-Victor? You're alive...

Victor: Yeah, I am...

Fionna: I'm glad but- what are you doing with Casey?

Victor: Casey is the one that put me back together. And you... are the one that left me for dead.

Fionna: Victor that is not true. If I knew you were alive, I would have went back for you.

Victor: Enough talking! You'll all get what you deserve.

He lifts his arms up into the air and slams them down against the ground, causing the street to wobble up into a wave moving right at them. Fionna grabs Ciel and moves out of the way while Caliber, Zara and Jake get hit by the road- sending them flying off past Casey. Casey then raises his hands and water from a nearby puddle whips up into the air until it forms as a water-like dagger in his hand. Jake rubs his head and looks up, bearing his teeth.

Jake: Alright, that's it-

His suit then forms around him from his energy device before the render is completed with the addition of his mask.

Defender: -Now you're just asking for it.

Defender fires some energy spikes from his gauntlet at Casey who slashes at them with his water dagger.

Casey: Never underestimate the power of water, Human.

Defender: And don't underestimate the power of my team.

Fionna: No, wait. We can't get Ciel caught up in this fight. The mission has to be getting her to safety.

Defender: Ngh! R-Right. We have to get her to the Jumpjet.

Casey: If you really want her safe, then hand her over!

He extends his hand threateningly towards Ciel and Fionna. Ciel ducks her head into her turtleneck collar while Fionna eyebrows burrow.

Fionna: So you can do to her what you did to Victor?

Casey: I saved him... I liberated him. And you two... will join me too.

Caliber holds up his fist as his scars widen and glow.

Caliber: I don't think so, creep!

Caliber rushes ahead and slams the ground, causing it to break up towards them. Casey holds up his hands as if to protect himself but Victor jumps ahead of him and slams his own fist against the ground, causing the break up to come to stop. Zara throws her hands in front of her and releases a crackling wave of energy that bends and snaps through the air before touching down on the ground before Victor, causing a small explosion which blows some chunks of the road into the air. With a small smoke screen now in place, the Helpers rush off down the street rallying behind Ciel and Fionna. Fionna quickly puts her domino mask as she escorts Ciel to safety.

Ember: That won't hold them back for long.

Defender, flying overhead: I know. Luckily, I called for back up.

Defender reaches for his comms and activates it.

Defender: Alright, Adam. Give me some good news.

Back at Headquarters, in the city, Adam and Emma are seen looking at a screen showing a blue dot leaving the East Coast at a quick pace.

Adam: Yep, I have incoming heading your way.

Emma: See? It wasn't that bad getting that call so late at night.

Adam: Just when I thought I could get some sleep... for once.

Defender, over the comms: I can still hear you, you know.

Adam: AH! I mean- don't get me wrong, I love this job! (laughs nervously)

Emma sighs and takes the helm.

Emma: Don't worry, Defender. Help is on the way and closing in fast.

The scene then cuts over to a blue blur racing across the waters. As it gets closer, the view faces the front of the blur- showing that it's actually Velocity, fully suited up, and running on water and fast speeds.

Adam, over the comms: How's it going, Danny?

Velocity: To be honest, never thought I'd be actually running on water... let alone on my way to another country.

Adam, over the comms: Good thing you're getting better at using your speed. Now you're able to help Jake and the others into Ecuador.

Velocity: Heh, well, it's definitely a long way from Iowa.

Velocity continues racing across the ocean and picks up his speed as he passes by other continents. Back in Ecuador, the Helpers continue to make their way back to the Jumpjet when the ground starts to cave in on them. Defender turns around and sees Victor burrow out from the ground and prepare to slam down on them within the pit. But as everything seems to slow down, Defender turns his head and sees movement out on the water gaining speed. Velocity then races from the beach, to the streets, racing past the park, the plaza, the bridge and other buildings in the city without any sign of slowing down. With all that speed built up from New York, he kicks off from the bottom of the slope and is practically launched through the air towards Victor. He then delivers a punch that not only cracks the sound barrier but sends him flying into a building far behind him. Casey looks at the damage then turns back with an angered and surprised look as Velocity stands before the Helpers as they climb out of the pit.

Casey: So, you brought the speedster.

Velocity: Dude, why can't anyone get the new name right?

Ember reaches the top of the pit and reaches back to help Ciel out but she instead hovers out of the pit as if being lifted by the wind, itself. Her sweater also opens up from the bottom and winds blows from beneath her sweater. She then drops down gracefully on the other side of the pit and gives Ember a small thumbs up.

Defender: You're not taking that girl, Casey.

Casey: Hmph. We'll see.

He clenches his fist violently as water busts out from a nearby pipe and wraps around him. He then brandishes the same water whips that he pulled out back in the city.

Velocity: I just learned to run on water so logically I can totally kick your butt now.

Defender: Actually, the plan's changed.

Velocity: Huh?

Defender: I need you to take Ciel, Fionna's sister, back to the Jumpjet. We'll hold them off and buy you time.

Velocity: Don't you guys want me to stay with you and do something useful?

Ember: Da- Velocity, please. This is everything to me.

He looks at her and nods.

Velocity: Alright...

He speeds over to Ciel and places a hand on her shoulder.

Velocity: One ticket to Jumpjet Airways coming right up!

He then takes off down the street, holding her carefully, as the two of them race off. Ember watches Velocity go before turning back to face the approaching Casey. Ember then flings some fireballs at him as he slashes his water whips about- which also extinguishes the fireballs. They continue to battle with the scene cutting back to Velocity as he speeds carefully through the streets of Guayaquil.

Velocity, side-stepping a passing car: No offense but you're kind of heavy. Any chance we got lose the bag or...

She shakes her head.

Velocity: Yeah, I didn't think so.

As he runs through the streets, the ground ripples where he once was. The ripples soon gain up on him and soon enough, Victor burrows out from the ground underneath Velocity and knocks him down. He and Ciel tumble across the street until they crash into a bus stop. Velocity looks up and his eyes shrink. He then gets up and dashes quickly, grabbing Ciel and moving her out of the way as a bus is hurled at the bus stop- destroying it.

Velocity: What are you doing?! Your sister was there.

Victor: I was... aiming for you.

Velocity: Well, you could've hurt her.

Ciel tucks her head back into her sweater.

Victor: It... doesn't matter. Casey can heal her. He made me better, he can fix her too.

Velocity: I think I'd prefer a second opinion before letting that happen.

Victor growls and charges for Velocity but he simply dashes out of the way. Victor goes for him again and Velocity does the same, yet again.

Victor: Hayai baka... Hold still!

Velocity: Too slow!

Victor slams his fist against the ground, cracking it open. He then grabs the piece of the concrete and chucks it in frustration. Velocity turns his head, seeing a bunch of people in the area. He then runs ahead and moves them out of the way as the debris crashes down into the street.

Velocity: Go on, get out of here. It's not safe. Oh wait, that's English- uh- rápido um...

He's then struck in the back by Victor and lifted up by him with one hand. Victor then holds him in close and starts to squeeze him tightly.

Velocity: Ack!

Velocity grips at his arms but he can't pull away from his grasp. Victor is then hit in the back by an energy spike which nearly causes him to tumble forward. He turns his head and sees Defender flying down. With Victor distracted, Velocity vibrates his body and shakes himself free from Victor's grip. He then speeds off before Victor can grab him again.

Defender: If you want someone to fight, I'm right here!

Victor: Get out of my way!

Victor grabs and chucks another part of the ground at Defender, who simply blocks it with a small energy barrier.

Defender: Go, get her out of here!

Velocity nods and goes over to Ciel.

Velocity: Come on, we're nearly there.

He takes her and runs off. Victor chases after them and begins to dig into the ground using his claw-like fingers but Defender encases him in an energy bubble.

Defender: Try digging out of this one.

Victor slams his fists against the sides of the sphere which increase rapidly.

Defender, gripping his energy device with his other hand: Okay, I didn't actually mean it, buddy!

Casey whips the leg of Caliber and hurls him over at Zara; the two then smack heads and collapse on the street. Ember comes at him, hard, with fire charged punches. He side steps each one and raises his hand out to splash her back with water, causing her to tumble back from the sheer force of the point-blank blast. He turns his head over the horizon and sees the blue blur get closer and closer to the beach. He bites his lip and grunts.

Casey: You are all... trying my patience. Fine, Fine! If you want to threaten to take her away from me then maybe I should do some threatening of my own.

Ember: We can handle ourselves, Casey.

Casey: Oh I know you think you can. After all, you see yourselves as heroes of the people, isn't that right?

He turns his head and sees citizens looking on from the side, in a state of worry.

Casey: Well, I'm sure you wouldn't be thrilled when I "accidentally" hurt some more of the Humans you care about so much.

Ember: No... Don't you dare!

Ember gets back up and runs after Casey who splashes the ground, causing her to slip and fall. He then slides across the street, in a wave of his own making before leaping off and kicking a statue- breaking its head into pieces. He then touches down by some citizens as they run for their lives. He then grabs one by the collar and holds them up from the ground.

Ember: Casey, stop!

Casey: I'll stop... when you bring me my sister!

Ember: Never.

Casey: Then I'm going to kill this woman. And a whole lot more people. Hell, I'll even raise the tide and see how many more Humans I can drown.

Ember: Stop it. Just stop it! You're not a monster so stop talking like one.

Casey: No, Fionna. I'm not a monster. I... am a liberator. But not just for Mutants. No, they've had their time but they were too easily manipulated by a man in a suit to see their true potential. I am going to be the man that reunites our family... and when I do, we will be the ones on top of the world. No more Humans, No more Mutants. Just the Ementos bloodline.

Ember: I can't let a world like that exist, Casey.

Casey: There is no stopping it. It's the inevitable. And you don't have a choice, either way. You will hand over Ciel... and yourself to me or a lot of people will die and it'll be all on you and your friends. Just think, is this what Ciel would want?

Ember hesitates for a moment before looking away.

Ember: Okay. Just... don't hurt anymore people.

Casey: Ah, sentimentalism. The surface world has really softened you, Fionna.

Casey lets go of the woman and pushes her away as she runs off on her own.

Casey: Your speedy friend is going to the shoreline. I'm guessing that's where you parked your flying ship, hm? Well, so have I coincidentally. How about we meet him there for the exchange? I hope you don't mind a brother-sister walk to the beach, dear sister.

Ember glares at him. The scene then cuts to the beach by the water where Velocity and Ciel are standing.

Velocity, using the comms: Are you sure there isn't any other way?

Defender, over the comms: Yeah... It's not the call that I want but Victor is running wild and Casey is threatening to hurt people on the spot. We can barely keep up with both of them as is.

Velocity: I understand that, man. I do. But...

He looks down at Ciel, who seems to fidget in place.

Velocity: She's just a girl.

Defender, over the comms: I know. Fionna knows that better than all of us... this was her call to make.

Velocity: (sigh) Yeah, I get it...

He turns his head and sees Casey and Ember approach.

Velocity: They're here.

Defender, over the comms: Okay, I'll be there soon. Just stick to the plan, we can't afford anyone getting hurt out here.

Casey: Well, this isn't exactly how I planned our meeting, Ciel, but it's nice to finally meet you again after all these years.

Ciel looks at him with a hardened expression.

Casey: Not much of a talker, is she?

Ember: Let's just get this over with.

Casey: Don't forget. I want you to come with too.

Ciel looks at Ember then back at Casey.

Ember: I didn't forget.

Casey smiles.

Casey: Great. Then Victor-

Victor then burrows out from beneath the ground and appears besides Casey.

Casey: -will join us as we make our exit.

Velocity: Don't think you've won. Wherever you go, we'll find you and then we'll stop you.

Casey: Just like you stopped me now? You don't have the power to stop what's coming. You never did.

Ember: I'm sorry it had to turn out this way, Ciel. You trusted me to protect you but...

Ciel: I understand. You have people you need to protect too. I hate violence. I hate feeling pain and seeing others in pain. But... if this keeps people away from pain, then I'll go. Because it's right.

Casey: Let's go.

Casey walks ahead and steps into the water. He then raises his hands and pushes them out, as he manipulates the water to shift and part. He then creates a passage through the water which goes lower and lower, beneath the water's surface.

Ember: I thought you said you parked by the beach.

Casey: I parked in the ocean to avoid being spotted by you and your friends. It's a short trip from the shoreline so quit complaining and get in the tunnel already.

Ember looks over at Velocity.

Ember: Don't worry, it's going to be okay.

Velocity is about to say something when she walks into the tunnel. Casey puts a hand on Ciel's shoulder. She looks up at him. She then looks down and reaches for her sweater collar. But mid-way through, she stops and lowers her hands again. She then proceeds to walk into the air tunnel with Casey and Victor- before the tunnel is concealed by water again. Velocity looks out at the water with Defender landing soon after. His mask then deforms, showing Jake's face. He looks like he's breathing a little heavily.

Jake: Danny, where's Fionna?

Velocity: She already left...

Under the water, in the tunnel that Casey has provided, the four of them are seen walking on the ocean floor.

Ember: How exactly did you heal Victor?

Casey: You'll see... soon enough.

Ember: I don't need healing.

Casey: Heh. You think you don't but trust me... you do. Maybe not physically but your mind... your morals and ideals, those are holding you back from becoming what you're meant to be.

Ember: You can't just take that from someone.

Casey: I can, I did... and I'll do it again if I have to.

Ciel: It's hard to think you really are my brother.

Casey: What?

Ciel: You don't see us family, you see us as los útiles. As tools.

Casey: Family has to stick together and work together to protect each other. Even if it's against the entire world.

Ciel: Family does not reach into someone and take what makes them who they are against their will. Those ideals are what makes us able to think for ourselves and make our own lives. Without morals, we are like the wind. We are free to push as strong as we want but only then do we become forces to be reckoned with instead of forces of nature. We are free like the wind, but we only become free of our humanity.

Casey: Maybe we no longer need humanity. Maybe we grow beyond humanity. Maybe these aren't our choices to make. Do you think I decided to just rally our family together on a whim? I am fulfilling our destiny and I am setting things back to how they should be. And there is no room for choice when it comes to destiny. Our reunion has already been decided for us.

Ember: I doubt that.

Ember stops walking. Casey turns and looks at her. Victor and Ciel do the same.

Casey: Get over here and stop messing around.

Ember: I'm not messing around.

Casey: In case you haven't noticed, you are currently underwater. Far from the shore. There is no rescue, there is no place to go. You are stuck in here with us so stop trying to fight fate, Fionna.

Ember: I'm not fighting fate but I am about to fight you.

Victor readies himself.

Casey: Your team couldn't handle us. You expect to fight the two of us.

Ember: In case you haven't noticed, we are currently underwater. In a tunnel that you're making for us right now using your powers. You might be stronger than me but if you have your limits, Casey. You can't drop that water before drowning me and your other family stuck in here.

Ember turns her hands over and forms fireballs in each hand. Casey raises his hand as if telling her to take it easy. Ember then circles around the tunnel and steps in front of Ciel.

Ember: Now you are going to take us back to the shore and you're all coming back with me. We're going to figure this out.

Casey: This is my purpose, Fionna. OUR PURPOSE! There is no talking me out of this and there is no talking you into it either, it seems. And you both wonder why my methods are so forceful... I have to be in order to bring us together. You keep... turning them against me!

Ember: …You have done that yourself.

Casey: You will NOT take her from me... There is no escape. There is only the HERE and NOW!

Ember: Then I'll settle this. Here... and now.

Casey: You know, you can't keep this up forever. I am moving the water around us... but this air is sure to run out. Even if you stop me, you still endanger other siblings. Our family. Either way, we both lose, unless you join me.

Ember: You can join me too. It does not have to end like thi-

Casey: Like I said, my path was chosen for me. All of our paths were. I was just the first to finally open my eyes and see the truth while you still sleep and dream of a world where we can all get along. The world has changed, Fionna, and demands another, much greater one. There is no convincing me to stop. There is no escaping with our lives. Only one of us can change their mind.

Ember: Like I said, I'll settle this.

Casey: …You would? You would end your family?

Ember is silent, almost hesitant.

Casey: You would allow us to suffer? For what? For Humans? For Mutants? …For those fools you call friends?!

Ember: I just... I can't let this be who we become. If this is my chance to stop this, to save what's left of us... then-

Ciel: Don't throw away who you are to save the family.

Ember: Ciel?

Ciel: You can save us by staying true to yourself. I know you can.

Ember: What do you mean us?

Ciel throws her hands forward and a sudden gust of wind shoots out from her sweater armholes- knocking Ember backwards. She then flies off, into the water which sends her away from the air bubble.

Victor: S-She's getting away! I'll go after her.

Casey: No, don't! You'll drown out there. You can't swim, remember?

Victor: Oh... right.

Casey: Let's just settle with what we actually came for.

He turns to face Ciel.

Ciel: I'm sorry, Fionna… I'm sure we will meet again. In this life or a better one.

Back in the water, Ember remains there- floating and seemingly unconscious. A light then soon comes over her which soon overcomes the entire view. When she opens her eyes again, she is above the water and no longer wearing her mask. In fact, she is moving above the water. She lifts her head up and sees that she is laying on a light green energy platform. She then turns her head and sees Defender flying besides her, conjuring the platform from the energy device on his wrist.

Fionna: Jake?

Defender: Hey.

Fionna: How did you... find me?

Defender: It was actually Danny.

He looks off to the side. Fionna turns her head and sees Velocity running across the water on the other side of the platform.

Velocity: I retrofitted a heat signature detector into these googles so I was able to find you while running across the ocean.

Defender: And I scooped you out.

Fionna: And Casey?

Defender: He uh... got away.

Velocity: I couldn't find any more heat signatures down there. Sorry.

Fionna: No, it's- not your fault, Danny. The team did all they could.

Defender: You too, Fionna.

Fionna looks at Defender before glancing off to the side; not responding to his comment. The scene then cuts back to the island where the Vigilante continues walking around.

Vigilante: I'm getting no closer to finding this place!

He turns the corner and sees a body on the floor. He stumbles back and looks away. He turns turn to look at it, only for it to vanish.

Vigilante: …And I keep seeing things. I don't know if I'll ever find this... bunker?

He turns his head and sees the metallic man watching him again.

Vigilante: …It's the same man from my vision about the bunker. If he's here, then I might be getting close.

He walks ahead, moving towards the metallic man. The man walks off to the side, out of the view again as the Vigilante starts to get closer. Once he turns the corner, the metallic man is no longer there- yet again. However, the area does start to appear a bit fuzzy. The Vigilante groans as he holds his head. He takes off his goggles and looks ahead, but the area still looks fuzzy.

Drake: What... What is this?

He reaches out and his hand starts to emit a faint glow. He looks at his hand, seeing the glow get weaker as he pulls it closer to him. He looks ahead at the fuzzy area before him and reaches his hand out towards it once more. As he does, the fuzz seems to go away; at least around a path before him. Drake lets out a breath and starts to walk the cleared path, leaving his hand extended. As he walks further, he walks past a few trees and comes across a man in a lab coat.

Drake: Who-

He stops and takes a step back as his eyes widen. The man turns around and has a wide smirk on his face.

Ryden: Hello... Drake.

He raises his arms out to create a form but looks in surprise as his arm is missing.

Ryden: What's the matter? You seem... lost.

He starts to approach Drake slowly. Drake's breathing becomes more and more rapid.

Drake: N-No... NO! This can't be happening... This is just my head. This is the island messing with my head!

He closes his eyes and breaths heavily.

Drake: Come on, Drake. Focus on what you feel...

He stays there, hearing the footsteps approach closer and closer. His breath then starts to calm as the footsteps simply... stop. He opens his eyes and Ryden is no longer there. He sighs in relief and looks back at his arm; it's still there and his hand is glowing brighter. He holds it out once more and follows after it, closing his eyes once again. Drake continues walking across a field on the island with his hand intended and eyes closed until he stops. He opens his eyes and sees his hand hovering before a sort of stone against a cliff wall. He looks around, seeing that he had walked into a natural pool-area within a cave enclosure. There are a few rocky platforms surrounding a waterfall pouring into a pool of water to his left. Moss and vines hangs from the cliffsides while purple and blue colored mushrooms and flowers bloom around the area, creating a beautiful and natural seclusion. Drake sighs and turns his attention back to the rock.

Drake: This is what my hand lead me to? Figures... since it's a hand and all.

He starts to walk away but his arm does not move. He turns back and tries to move his arm again but it just does not budge.

Drake: What?

He tries to move his arm forward and it proceeds to do so but moving it back is practically impossible for him. He looks at the rock his hand was hovering over.

Drake: What's so special about a rock?

He moves his arm forward to place his hand on the rock. His eyes then squint as he starts to feel the rock.

Drake: Wait, this is... metal?

He grabs the metal rock and moves to the side, revealing an access pad; it looks like a hand print recognition system. Drake looks at his hand once more before placing it on the pad. The panel then scans his hand and he's able to retract his arm back. Drake rolls his shoulder and stretches his arm out- even expanding and collapsing his fist as if exercising his fingers again.

Panel: Scan complete. Access... granted. Welcome... Drake.

Drake turns to the panel at the mention of his name as soon enough a door starts to open from within the cliffside.

Drake, looking ahead: This... is the bunker?

The door then fully opens and Drake soon steps inside after a moment of hesitation. He looks around as the door starts to close behind him. He turns back to the door but it closes, sealing him in darkness. He turns his head back forward and starts to walk down a hall. As he does, lights start to appear- lighting up the way forward as he moves ahead. His path then leads to a staircase which he walks down. Once he reaches the bottom, he finds an archway to his left. He walks through it, looking around. In this room, is what appears to be a laboratory. There are desks before him and machinery all over the place. One side has old-looking computers while the other has shelves with crates of supplies and resources. But what really takes the center of attention are the tall, cylindrical tubes in the middle of the left side of the room. The tubes are connected to a series of machinery and processors. And inside those tubes are humanoid figures that are obviously of mechanical design. Drake starts to approach the tanks and look at the figures inside them. The one on the left has a masculine figure while the one of the right has a feminine figure. While their bodies aren't quite distinctive, their faces are quite realistic with the exception of their eyes. The left figure's face is wrinkled and quite old-looking while the right figure's face is smooth and quite young-looking. Drake looks at the two of them but they both appear... static. He sighs and then turns away, looking around the room.

Drake: I don't get it... what's so special about this bunker?

Female Voice: Why not ask us?

Male voice: We're right here, you know!

Drake: Ah. I'm hearing voices again...

Male voice: Is that any way to talk to us?!

Drake jumps slightly and turns around quickly to see the figures looking at him; while their bodies remain static- their faces have shifted as if to look at Drake.

Drake: You... You two can talk?

Female Figure: Can we? Yes, I believe we can. What a tremendous discovery!

Male Figure: Would you calm down? Speech has always been apart of our design.

Female Figure: Of course, I knew that. But isn't rediscovering it such a wonder?

Male Figure: I disagree. Well? What do you think?

Drake: I'm... not sure what to think. What- or who are you two?

Female Figure: You don't remember?

Male Figure: After all our hard work to get you here and this is how we're treated. Disappointing.

Drake: You... Wait, I remember. When the Xyrions experimented on me, to open their portal, I saw a vision of the Bunker, a metal man and two faces... Those faces, they were yours!

Male Figure: Correct. We've been trying to reach you for months!

Female Figure: But who's counting, right? We're just glad you finally arrive, Delta.

Drake: My name is Drake. Why did you call me here?

Male Figure: Impatient, isn't he?

Drake: What?

Female Figure: What my dear friend here is trying to say is that you asked us a question and we haven't gotten a chance to answer it for you yet. We just think it's... logical to deal with problems that arrive first.

Male Figure: If there is no order then there is no logic. And without logic, we can not function. Agreed?

Female Figure: Agreed! Very well said.

Drake: Okay, uh- so who are you then?

Male Figure: I am Beta, second prototype.

Female Figure: And I am Charlie, third prototype.

Drake: Prototype?

Beta: Another question?!

Charlie: Well he did first ask, what or who we are. Surely we can answer it as a singular question.

Beta: Fine. As we said, we are prototype designs of our creator's grand design; an invention designed to save and help.

Charlie: Our creator is like a father to us as well but it is a shame that we have to meet like this. I imagine our meeting would be more lively if we had met when you were newer.

Drake: Wait, me? Wait, your creator...

Beta: Yes, our creator is also your creator too.

Charlie: Or better yet, he's your father too. I guess that makes us a big family then.

Drake: You knew my father?

Beta: Did you not just hear what she said? We're related. Of course we knew the man!

Drake: I don't... remember him that much.

Beta: He seems to be malfunctioning.

Charlie: Oh that's a shame.

Drake: Hey, I'm not a machine!

Beta: Could have fooled me...

Charlie: Now that we answered that question, we should probably move on to the next one. Agreed?

Beta: Yes. The sooner we get to business, the better.

Charlie: On the matter of why did we call you here. Well, that's simple really. To help, of course.

Beta: When you activated that form, you activated a force that connected you to us. From there, we were able to reach you and communicate. Even though the signal was poor and atrocious.

Charlie: But you got our message. You came!

Drake: How can you help me? I can't even access that form anymore.

Beta: Yes, you do seem to be a complete mess.

Charlie: I don't even know where to begin. Biometrics? Programming? Memory?

Beta: How about we start at the beginning? Agreed?

Charlie: Oh, a fantastic idea! Agreed!

Drake sighs. The scene then cuts to the area outside of the bunker where a metallic foot steps forth. The metallic man can then be seen looking ahead at the bunker; his breaths muffled by the metal exterior making them sound heavy and electronic. Back inside the bunker, Drake leans against a desk as he looks up at the towering figures in their respective tanks.

Charlie: Long ago, our creator, Robert, had an idea for creating an invention that could potentially change and help the world. Since he believed that history was filled with men that could change the world, he decided to invent a man that could do just that.

Beta: Which lead to the creation of Alpha, the first prototype.

Drake: How come he isn't here?

Beta: His programming was too much for his own good. Our creator knew better than to keep him around here.

Charlie: Everyone has a day where there's too much to handle. I don't blame Alpha.

Beta: I don't miss him, that's for sure.

Charlie: Neither do I. I get to see bits and pieces of him all over the workshop.

Beta: And you weren't even created when he was around.

Drake: Can we move on with this... story already?

Beta: Agreed.

Charlie: Yes, yes. Agreed. Well, without the Alpha prototype, our creator did not quit but instead continued working on new prototypes.

Beta: Which lead to me: Beta, the second prototype. I was programmed to save Humanity.

Charlie: Unfortunately, Beta was pretty... what's a nice way of putting it? Closed minded?

Drake: How so?

Beta: Firstly, the world was different from how it is today. Back then, Humanity had to co-exist with other species on this planet. One of which being Mutants. In order for Humanity to prosper, Mutant kind had to go.

Drake: What?

Beta: That's just how it is. Think about it: less resources would be consumed by Mutants and Humanity would be able to survive without threat or worry. You can't deny this path of logic.

Charlie: And yet our father still did.

Beta: He said it was inhuman. Ironic, I suppose, since my mission was to save Humanity.

Charlie: At least you tried your best, Beta.

Beta: Best. Yeah... Well, as you can see, my body remained like this and construction was halted so my methods would not go into practice. Construction, instead, began with a new prototype...

Charlie: Oh! That would be me: Charlie, third prototype. My programming was to save people, in general.

Drake: People. So both Humans and Mutants.

Charlie: Exactly! You are quite perceptive. My AI model was modeled after actual Human beings so I suppose that makes you and I more alike than you thought, huh?

Beta: That would also explain the change in naming protocols.

Charlie: Charlie just sounded more... Human to our father compared to Gamma.

Drake, interjecting: And I'm not... exactly Human.

Beta: Oh bother. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse.

Charlie: Beta, behave. Delta is still apart of our family, no matter what he is.

Drake: Again, it's Drake.

Charlie: Oh, apologies. Drake does sound quite Human... even if we're not Humans, we can still pretend, right?

Drake: Yeah... But uh- your programming. You said you were designed to save people. But you're still...

Charlie: A prototype? Yes. I don't really understand it myself but... I'm sure our father had a good reason.

Beta: He did. He said you were too idealistic. Your methods and theories were logically sound, yes, but they had no place in the current reality. You were, in a sense, building bridges where there were walls.

Charlie: But the bridge would have helped... what do you propose should have been done instead?

Beta: Break the wall down!

Charlie: Oh but the walls were put up so carefully. Destroying it might hurt their feelings.

Drake: Were there... actual walls?

Both: It's a metaphor.

Drake: Right... So there must have been another prototype after you, right?

Charlie: Well, there was but-

Beta: It's you, Delta. You're the fourth prototype.

Drake: I keep telling you, I'm not a machine. So how can I be the forth prototype?

Beta: That's just how things are. You were created after Charlie so that makes you the fourth. Doesn't that sound logical?

Charlie: Agreed. That makes you our baby brother! To be honest, we weren't even sure if you actually existed or not.

Drake: You didn't?

Beta: No. We were stuck in here, unable to move freely like you are able to now. From here, we were able to discuss our methods in hypothetical scenarios.

Drake: Why?

Charlie: In hopes that one day our programming will be self-corrected and our creator... our father will be able to accept us again.

Beta: And there is nothing else to do in here.

Drake: But you're machines. You're able to think or function after this long?

Beta: You insult our programming. We are far more than just machines.

Charlie: We are modelled off of actual Humans, in both appearance and personalities.

Beta: That's the power of Artificial Intelligence. Something our creator had been ahead of before other scientists.

Drake: I thought he only created Nanogenes.

Beta: That... was the final product, supposedly.

Charlie: Would they be considered our relatives as well? Like billions of tiny brothers and sisters?

Beta: Disagreed.

Charlie: Hm. Billions of tiny cousins?

Beta: …No.

Voice: Your father has done more than make Nanogenes.

Drake pushes off from the table and turns to the archway where the metallic man is standing. He looks ahead at Drake.

Charlie: Oh he's here! He's here!

Beta: Well, about time.

Drake: You... You're that metal man I've been seeing across the island.

The metallic man starts to approach Drake and raises his hands up. Drake readies himself. But the metallic man's hands continue raising up until it reaches the sides of its head. The metallic man then stops before Drake and grabs the sides of its head. It then pulls it off, revealing it was a helmet all along. A slight steam/smoke emits from beneath the helmet as the metallic man lowers it. A cough is heard as it fans the smoke away. Drake looks ahead.

Drake: You're... You look so familiar.

The smoke clears and a man stands before him, looking quite similar to Drake except slightly older. He has short, yet thick eyebrows, a goatee and black disheveled hair and brown eyes. The man also stands taller than Drake.

Man: Drake... No puedo creerlo... It's me, man. Zack.

Drake: Za... Zack?

Zack leans in and hugs Drake tightly, causing him to hold his arms up in surprise.

Zack: It's been too long. I thought- I thought something happened to you, niño.

Drake: I- How did you survive?

Zack pulls away from Drake and looks at him.

Zack: Well, do you remember when I was sent away after the whole science fair debacle?

Drake: Bits and pieces...

Zack: Uncle Robert- uh, your father, was actually impressed with the results. Well, no, he was horrified by the results as you can well imagine but he was impressed with my research. Even though it was just for a science project, I managed to understand his work quicker than any of his understudies. So, instead of sending me home, he sent me here.

Drake: To the Bunker?

Zack: Yeah. He gave me the access codes and showed me around, explained some of his projects to me. All while I keep what happened at the science fair to myself. Of course, I agreed, I mean- it meant I was able to study his work more. In fact, I didn't leave the Bunker at all which... was fortunate because well-

Drake: The incident happened.

Zack: And it took practically everyone with it... including my parents.

Drake: I'm... sorry.

Zack: Don't be. It wasn't your fault. And I don't blame Uncle Robert either. Science can be... unpredictable. That's why I'm working so hard here to make some connections and figure things out. Maybe even... fix all this mess.

Drake: You can... do that?

Zack: I can try.

Drake: So you've just been here... on the island this whole time? In this bunker?

Zack: Well... yes. I've been maintaining the place, making sure nothing break downs. Keeping an eye on Beta and Charlie.

Charlie: He's like our caretaker. He's so nice and intelligent.

Beta: He certainly makes better company than you.

Zack: The constant back and forth does get a bit stale after a while though... Not gonna lie.

Drake: This is a lot to take in. I thought I was the only one left from my past.

Zack: Hey, just the other day I was in the same boat. But... I guess one thing that gave it away was the prototypes. They activated about a year ago out of nowhere. Kept talking about Delta... but I guess they just meant you.

Drake: A lot has changed since we were kids, Zack.

Zack: Oh, I'll bet. I saw you fight out there... those forms, it's hard to believe but Uncle Robert actually gave it to you, didn't he? The Nanogene Prototype.

Drake: That's how I was able to find this place.

Zack: That makes sense. There's a lot of data on Nanogenes in this Bunker.

Drake: My father left all that behind?

Zack: Actually, no. This bunker is more for... off the shelf projects.

Beta: How devaluing...

Charlie: It was a bit hurtful, Zack.

Zack: Heh. Sorry about that, you two.

Drake: So if he didn't leave the Nanogene data behin then who did?

Zack: Me. Like I said, I've been studying since that day. I've put a lot of things together since then and studied Nanogenes in the atmosphere. I also studied how they affect living organisms. But I needed a closer look at how they communicate. So I designed this suit.

Drake: Your suit?

Zack: Yeah, it allows to communicate with Nanogenes. Similarly to how your Nanogene Prime Prototype does.

Drake: That's... impressive. So are you able to make forms like me?

Zack: No, but I do have one special power.

Zack places his helmet back on and secures it. He then places his hands on the suit's buckle and grips it. Soon after, a faint glow overcomes him before he shrinks out of sight. Drake steps back, in surprise, and looks around.

Drake: Zack? Wh-Where'd you go?

Zack, over a speaker: Nowhere. Well, I did go somewhere but technically I'm still in the room.

Drake: Are you, invisible? And where's your voice coming from?

Zack: A speaker close to the top of the archway. I'm so far away from your ear drums that the sound won't be able to register on a normal frequency so my suit is broadcasting my audio into the Bunker so you can hear me.

Drake: You're far away? But you just said you're in the room.

Zack: Relativity, cousin.

Drake: What?

Zack then grows in size- returning back to his normal height, which surprises Drake.

Zack: It's a science term. You never really were into science, were you?

Drake: What was that?

Zack: That... (removes helmet) was me shrinking to the size of a Nanogene.

Drake: That's impossible. Nanogenes are... well, they're-

Zack: The size of a molecule? Yes, I'm aware. You see while I was able to communicate with the Nanogenes in the atmosphere, I realized I was also able to give them commands. Of course, I don't want to mutate myself but I did want to see if the Nanogenes could modify me in some way. By commanding the Nanogenes surrounding me to compress the space between them, they're able to release a bio-electrical response that affects my atomic structure, granting me a molecular height while also maintaining my mass.

Drake: Huh?

Zack: Uh... the Nanogenes make me smaller.

Drake: Ah. I guess that explains why you kept disappearing before.

Zack: I couldn't tell if you were a Mutant or... some stranger with that mask on.

Drake: They're uh... actually goggles.

Zack: Heh, finally took my advice then, huh?

Drake: Something like that...

Zack places his hand on Drake's shoulder.

Zack: It's good to have you back, cousin. We have so much to catch up on.

Drake: Yeah, something tells me we do.

Credits

The scene continues on the beach of the island, where Drake and Zack are standing.

Zack: So... you're a vigilante in New York?

Drake: I thought I explained that already.

Zack: I know, I know. It shouldn't even be that hard to believe. You always did try to finish fights in school.

Drake: Yeah...

He looks off to the side.

Drake: Still, from what I remember, there were so many people here on this island. To think, in a few years, they're just gone.

Zack: Mutants are no joke, cousin. You, of all people, should know that by now. Though there have been a few survivors but I'm sure they made it off the island like you did. How'd you manage that anyways?

Drake: I uh- got on a boat. I don't remember how really- I just- was on a boat and- um...

Drake holds the side of his head. Zack frowns.

Zack: Drake? What's wrong?

Drake: N-Nothing. It's just been a long day, that's all. The Jumpjet then soon arrives, landing onto the beach beside them.

Zack: Looks like your friends are here.

Drake: Come with me.

Zack: Heh. You know I've never left Xenon before.

Drake: Xenon?

Zack: Come on, Drake. You know... the name of the island we're on.

Drake: It's called Xenon?

Zack: Y-Yeah... I was- am worried about leaving Beta and Charlie alone for too long but-

Drake: You did pack a bag.

Zack: I did. I was... going to give it to you in case it might help. But now that I'm thinking about it, I-

The hatch then opens before them and Ember stands by the door.

Ember: Hey.

Drake: Hey… How’d it go with-

She shakes her head.

Drake: Oh.

Caliber: So uh, who’s your friend?

Zack: Hey. I'm Zack Martinez, Drake's cousin.

Caliber: Whoa... seriously?

Drake: Yeah... it's hard to- explain...

He leans against the Jumpjet with Zack reaching for him.

Ember: D-Drake? You alright?

Zack: Ah, right. Now might be a good time to mention that Drake might be suffering from some neurological damage.

Ember: What?!

Danny, making his way over: D-Did I just hear that right?

Zack: Yes. I'll need to come with you and examine him. Otherwise, Drake... might die.

The Helpers look at Zack then at Drake in surprise as the view closes in on Drake's weak expression.

Allusions[]

  • When confronted with a static Ciel, Jake says she's "standing there... menacingly". This is a reference to the Spongebob episode, Hall Monitor.
  • Butch Fullerton is a reference to writer, Charlotte Fullerton, and director, Butch Lukic.
  • When Casey claims that Fionna is turning his siblings against him, she responds with "You have done that yourself." This is an allusion to a line from Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.
    • It is also followed up by "You will NOT take her from me..." from Casey; a response from Anakin to Obi-Wan in the same film.

Trivia[]

  • Zara not being in the last episode had to be retconned into this episode because she was accidentally not included in the main story and adding her in after uploading it would have been more of a hassle.
  • In the original script, the Jumpjet was meant to land on the island and the farewell to Drake was going to be less rushed. But in the final version, it was replaced with a mad dash and a freefall to add suspense and urgency.
  • In the original script, Fionna was going to get a sense for her sister being nearby without activating her device. Like a feeling that overwhelmed her. Instead, in the final version, she is the one who located her sister rather than the other way around.
  • This is Drake's first time, not counting the experience he had in The Invasion Part 2, confronting his memories and his past.
  • There were several callbacks and references to the many flashbacks across the series.
  • One of the plot points of the episodes was planned on making Gerald (the leader of the Hunters) the villain for Drake's storyline which would lead in to his neurological issue being revealed at the end of the episode. But bringing him back might have complicated things and as it turned out, wasn't necessary so it wasn't included.
    • Similarly, Ryden's cameo appearance was in a state between decided and undecided but he would've shared the antagonistic role as Drake battled against his mind and Mutants still living on the island.
  • The Bunker, itself, was going to look and be located different than it is in the final version; taking on the appearance of an actual bunker beneath a grassy hill or slump. However, the final version sounds more breath-taking and otherworldly which captures the tone of the Bunker better anyways.
