Plot[]
The Rustbucket is on the highway, Ben was looking rather glum and was fidgeting with the Omnitrix.
"Ben? Hello? You've been doing that ever since we left New York."
"It's just the fact that... It's what happened with Kevin. I... always thought I could handle things myself, and when I broke away, it cost me-."
Ben's moment of genuine grief was halted when he saw a younger boy making a funny face at him, "Oh, he doesn't know who he's messing with."
Ben pulled his best funny face in response, the two exchanging faces.
"I'm glad to see you're handling this so maturely..."
The boy in the other car pulled out his burger and began eating it, showing the chewed up remains to Ben.
"Time to pull out the secret weapon!" Ben got low so he couldn't be seen and transformed into Ball Weevil, spitting plasma all over the window, scaring the child out of his mind making him scream, which then prompted the boy's father to look over, seeing Ball Weevil pressing his mouth against the window to clean up the mess, causing him to scream and speed past the RV leaving Ball Weevil beside himself with laughter, rolling around on the floor.
"There's such thing as 'taking a joke too far', you know. I actually thought you were capable of taking things SERIOUSLY for once."
"No way, funny is funny."
Max noticed something on the road ahead, screeching the RV to a halt, causing Ball Weevil to uncontrollably tumble to the front before getting upright again.
"Oh, good, you're ready to go, there's trouble ahead. You're gonna have to stop that trail before it gets to the propane."
A propane truck had overturned on the road with the driver still inside, a fire was spreading just outside the truck.
"The door's stuck! He can't get out!" A bystander yelled.
Ball Weevil grabbed the rest of his earlier plasma still left and fashioned it and some new plasma into a ball to roll out into the street so he could get a closer look.
"Man, sometimes you wish you were Heatblast... Actually..."
Ball weevil continued to roll towards the fire, spitting plasma balls that extinguished the flames by smothering them, meanwhile Max shouted to the onlookers.
"Come on folks, give the bug a chance to work!"
Ball Weevil approached the truck, spitting a stream of plasma at the door that stuck to it, pulling the door off its hinge to let the driver free.
"Would you look at that, loogies save lives." Ball Weevil congratulated himself in front of the crowd as the Omnitrix began beeping, "Oh! Looks like I gotta go!"
The Tennysons continue along the winding road, coming up on signs on the roadside, Gwen reading them outloud.
"'You'll have a ball with it' 'Next Exit'?"
"Come on, Grandpa. At least tell us a hint of what 'it' is!"
"Nuh-uh. No hints. I've been planning this stop the whole summer."
They finally reached the destination, Max exiting the RV to take care of some things before finally letting the kids out.
"Now, both of you, close your eyes."
Both of them walked out, closing their eyes, "alright, now, open 'em up. Ta-da! Welcome to Sparksville!"
Ben and Gwen open their eyes and see a large billboard, then look over to see the actual town, and... it was basically empty and completely mundane, there were some attendants at attractions though.
"Isn't this place just wonderful or what?"
"What." Ben deadpanned.
"I said, 'isn't this place just wonderful or what'."
"Yeah, I heard you."
"As the mayor of Sparksville, I welcome you, as seekers of adventure." A monotone voice spoke.
Gwen and Ben stared at the mayor for a few seconds before Max spoke up.
"Now, I know you kids are excited to see 'it'. So I'll check us in."
The kids were given tickets while Max walked ahead.
Eventually, the kids moved on to an exhibit called "The Jack-A-Lope", Ben rang the bell and surprisingly, Earl, the mayor of Sparksville showed up.
"Tickets please."
"Aren't you supposed to be the mayor?" Ben inquired, giving his tickets in.
"Heavy is the head that wears the crown, but heavier is the head that wears many crowns. Mind the signs." Ben and Gwen walked through the exhibit, taking as many pictures as they could of the Jack-A-Lope building (which just housed a rabbit with branches taped on as antlers), an employee repairing a planetarium, a giant "sunlight" bulb, and a giant hot-dog, the kids running away before they were drenched by mustard and ketchup before finally find a barn with the sign "IT lives here", they look at one another before shrugging, entering only to yet again find Earl.
"Through these doors, lies the weirdest and wildest thing to find its way to Sparksville."
They open the door, only darkness, there were signs that lit up with ominous warnings.
"'Do not touch it'? 'Do not photograph it'? Can't they just tell us what IT is because I can't stand IT anymore!" Ben whined.
"'Do not use any batteries or electronics near it'?" Gwen continued.
The lights come on, Ben and Gwen look up to see...
"A big ball of rubber bands? This is 'it'?" Ben sighed.
"And who knows what secrets lie within."
"Probably more rubber bands..."
"Mind the signs..." Earl said as he left.
"This is kinda lame, don't you think? Can't believe Grandpa was so excited about being here." Gwen wondered.
"These guys are really full of 'it'. We've been punked!" Ben walked closer to the ball, knocking on it before going behind it to transform into XLR8, running back to smirk at Gwen.
"Ben, what are you doing?"
"One good prank..." XLR8 picked up the ball with both hands before crouching onto his back as he tossed it up a little, "...deserves another!"
XLR8 quickly caught it, holding it in the air by repeatedly kicking it.
"Be careful super-dweeb! You'll drop it!"
"Yeah, as if! This is one of the moves XLR8 does best!"
XLR8 continued kicking, only to accidentally kick too hard, knocking the ball into the air, causing it to roll past Gwen.
"Told you so!" Gwen ducked for cover.
"Oh no you don't!" XLR8 quickly ran after the ball, easily keeping pace given his super speed, "Alright, just stop a speeding rubber band ball and put everything back where it was and there won't be a problem..."
This was easier said than done given that XLR8 had to focus on both the ball and keeping several exhibits safe, focusing on the latter, he managed to keep the ball out of the way. Any exhibit it knocked into was quickly fixed up but all of that running kicked up enough wind to knock over a giant house of cards, the thing that finally stopped the ball from rolling.
Gwen immediately slapped him in the back of the head, the force was enough to make Ben knock the ball back into motion.
"this is for turning me into a criminal! You're so lucky that us, Grandpa and Earl are basically the only people here! What are we supposed to tell them!"
"Uh, we play dumb?"
"Yeah, easy for you to say!"
Ben just pondered his next response, leaning his arm against the ball, unbeknownst to him, red energy leaked from the Omnitrix, entering the ball.
The three made their way to the motel where they would be staying, entering through a door that was modeled like a mail slot, inside it was as if the entire room had been turned on its side, including the bed and the door.
"Isn't this place a riot? Hope you two have had fun."
"Remember, play dumb..." Ben whispered, nudging his cousin.
"Who's you two?"
"Not that dumb!" Ben lightly shoved, "What she was trying to say was, it's... fun Grandpa." Ben's eye slightly twitched but he managed to look away just in time.
Meanwhile, at the rubber ball, the excess charge had returned, spreading all across before turning yellow, it quickly leapt onto a power line, circling exhibits before cutting straight through the welcome sign like a knife, turning into a tiny black and yellow battery-like creature.
While Ben and Gwen were trying to sleep, Max was outside examining what had transpired in his absence and it wasn't pretty.
"Haven't seen something like this in a while..."
He finally came back inside to which the kids fell out of their beds in surprise.
"Benjamin, Gwendolyn, get out here. Now."
"Oh, he used our actual names... we're so doomed." Gwen was visibly shaking.
They came out and saw the place trashed, even worse than the rubber ball incident.
"Man, what could have possibly happened here?" Ben's eyes looked shiftily around, trying to look to something to put the blame on.
"It's like some kind of tornado rolled in through here overnight, but weather's been fine the whole summer..." Max pondered.
It seemed like Gwen's earlier assumption was wrong as more people from Sparksville showed up, tourists and non-tourists to get pictures of the damages.
"Yeah, of... course it's just a freaky nature event! Right, Gwen?" Ben quickly nodded and so did Gwen.
Earl suddenly showed up from behind the trio.
"I know the source of this... juvenile delinquency."
"'Juvenile'? I'm sure that these two were completely fine." Max looked at his grandchildren.
"Oh, I don't mean your kids."
"You don't? I mean... of course you don't!" Ben nervously chuckled as Max stared harder.
"So, who's the one responsible?" Max asked.
Suddenly, the battery creature appeared again, dancing around everyone before zipping away.
"What was that?" Ben inquired.
"Megawhatt."
"Mega-what?" Ben blinked.
"Exactly... normally wrapped up nice and snug inside it, these creatures call this town home, some think of it as a ball of lightning come alive, others believe it's static cling run amok."
"Maybe an alien?" Gwen noted, given her experience.
"Alien? That's just kooky talk, little miss."
Suddenly, a can of soda flew over everyone's heads, landing in the crowd.
"What was that?"
"They gobble on electricity, it makes them stronger,"
More cans began flying, barely missing the trio while Earl calmly stood still.
"And there's also it's dangerous sense of humor,"
They all quickly ran behind an overturned car to dodge the onslaught.
"If someone has minded the signs this wouldn't be a problem."
"Fine, fine! We did it! We accidentally let the ball go!" Gwen admitted.
"We're going to talk about this later, you two. So, Mister Mayor, how do we stop this?"
"'We'? Your kids let it out, you help 'em put it back." Earl began crawling over to a bench to sit and fix his teeth with a toothpick.
The trio search the town for the runaway alien, but find nothing.
"Maybe we can lure it out with batteries?" Gwen wondered.
The alien jumped across power lines before shocking Max in the back, slapping him in the face, knocking him onto his back before flying away.
"Don't worry Grandpa, I've got just the guy to deal with this!" Ben slammed on the Omnitrix, transforming into...
"Why go Upgrade and not Chromastone?"
"It's complicated. A dweeb like you wouldn't get it."
"Watch didn't change you into what you wanted?"
"Oh, shut up." Upgrade began running after the alien, extending his arm to grab the rubber ball to toss at the Megawhatt which only caused more damage as it missed the Megawhatt while it just laughed.
"Who's side are you ON!" Gwen whined which only angered Upgrade further as he fired a beam of green energy from his eye at the alien who dodged at the last second.
"Not so much of a joke now, am I?"
"Seems like there's a lotta excitement today..." Earl got a bag of popcorn and began eating.
Upgrade kept jumping around to dodge the electric blast, finally managing to grab onto the Megawhatt only to be shocked, sending him flying back.
"Okay, note to self, do not touch the electric guy when you're made of living metal," Upgrade pulled himself together, picking up a sewer lid, "looks like it's time to pull the plug on these guys!"
He tossed the lid, slicing through the Megawhatt, however it then regenerated into two copies of itself, surprising the group. Ben charged another beam, but quickly reverted to human, looking behind him to see...
Max and Gwen in a truck carrying "the world's largest thermometer", they turned to block Ben from being attacked, which tossed the thermometer at the Megawhatts knocking them to the ground, unable to use their electrical abilities to right themselves.
"What just happened?"
"We just used the biggest thermometer as the biggest lightning rod. A dweeb like you wouldn't get it." Gwen haughtily retorted.
"So, you grounded 'em, but the ground's one giant conductor." Earl showed up, raining on their parade.
"And that means what in English?"
"Wait! They're running through the ground to find somewhere to come up!" Gwen explained.
"Ben, Gwen, get away from the phones!"
More and more Megawhatts jumped out of the payphones, jumping into anything in sight with electricity. Cars, power lines, etcetera, continuing to multiply, laughing in a group in front of the crowd.
"Ben. Don't. Say. It." Gwen turned to a smirking Ben.
"What? Can't I be glad I didn't mess up this time?"
The laughing grew louder, becoming a sonic screech causing everyone to cover their ears and duck as the glass containing the world's largest toothpicks broke, alerting everyone.
"Everyone, move, now!" Mex yelled, everyone ran.
More specifically, everyone except Earl, who was sitting still, each toothpick perfectly missing him.
"Too bad that didn't kill me..." Earl continued eating.
"Ben! Dial something!" Gwen hollered.
"You think I'm not trying!"
One of the Megawhatts started speaking to the others before zipping away and then abruptly, an explosion went off in a building as a planetarium leapt out into the scene, piloted by the Megawhatts.
"We can head off in the..." Max started, noticing that Rust Bucket was already missing its wheels as well as covered in the writing "U AM LAME" and several smiley faces on all sides.
"Looks like you'll have to book it to the hydroelectric dam." A lady said, driving up in a topdown coupe, "Unless you all want to ride."
"Thanks for the ride, lady." Ben nodded.
"Don't mention it, name's Agnes." The lady pulled down her shades, before putting her foot back on the gas after the three got in.
"Alright, drop us off here!" Ben pointed.
"Stop on by again for some of our famous Sparksville Pi. That's pie without the e by the way."
The Tennysons finally made it to the dam, finding the puppeteered planetarium trying to break through the dam while Agnes drove off.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"If the watch gives me what I want, yeah. It's time to give these pranksters a taste of their own medicine."
Ben pulled up the Omnitrix, going for Chromastone again, this time it worked, hitting the planetarium in the back of the head with a white beam, getting the Megawhatts' attention.
Chromastone leapt into the dam, sliding down the side of the rocks.
"Alright! One last warning! Knock the funny business off or it's lights out for you!"
The Megawhatts just decided to break the dam, sending a rush of electrified water at Chromastone who braced for it.
"Hah! Easy, I can just absorb electricit-AUGH!" The conducted water shocked Chromastone, sending him tumbling until he accidentally began to float in the air, looking down at himself, "Woah! I'm just discovering all sorts of new powers today! Alright, try this!"
Chromastone flew towards the Megawhatts, dodging a punch before retaliating with one of his own.
"Missed me! Missed me! Now you gotta kiss me!" Chromastone began mooning the planetarium as best as a rock alien could, flying downward to dodge another punch before absorbing an electric blast, pulling out a few Megawhatts with it.
"Man, for a bunch of bright guys, you sure are dim! You should just quit now while you're behind!" Chromastone annoyed the Megawhatts further, "What's the matter? Can't take a joke?"
Chromastone finally landed on solid ground, standing still as the enraged Megawhatts all jumped from the safety of the planetarium to attack him, only for him to put his arms out, draining their energy, putting them to sleep.
"Now, for my next trick... unveil the bowl, dear assistants." Chromastone bowed, stepping out of the way to show Grandpa and Gwen pulling back a rubber tarp over the largest fishbowl and using it to block the Megawhatts so they could put them in the bowl before capping it off wit the tarp and a few bands.
"Once again, science saves the day..." Gwen congratulated herself.
"With a little help from science fiction, of course." Chromastone joined in, transforming back to human.
The trio entered town, workers were trying to get everything back to normal and Earl stood in front of a large object covered in tarp.
"Hope my kids didn't give Sparksville too much of a setback."
"'Setback'? This is a set forward if anything... the world's brightest lightbulb will be Sparksville's newest attraction, long as people mind the signs." Earl unveiled the bright, giant bulb.
"In case of emergency, do not break glass." Ben shrugged, walking off to the Rust Bucket, "Man, am I tired for the day."
Max just looked on, giving Ben the "after you" signal which confused the boy, he stepped into the RV, as a bucket of water splashed on his head.
"Funny is funny. Especially when it's not on you." Max explained through fits of laughter alongside Gwen.
"Ugh, you're so much better than this, Grandpa! Did Gwen put you up to this!" Gwen just shrugged.
