“ I didn't create a weapon, all of you did! I created the ultimate device for understanding all the beings of the universe. ”
– Azmuth explaining the purpose of the Omnitrix.
The Omnimatrix, better known as the Omnitrix, was a watch-like device that attached to Ben Tennyson's wrist at the beginning of the series and is the device that the franchise revolves around. The device is a portable library of intergalactic genetic data that allowed the wielder to alter their DNA at will and transform into a variety of different alien species, each with their own unique abilities.
Ben will get the Master Control in Ben 10 Unleashed.
When it will get destroyed it will be replaced by the improved Ultimatrix.
Appearance[]
Volume 1[]
The Omnitrix resembles a digital wristwatch. Its faceplate is square instead of round and has a white, green, and black color scheme. The faceplate is black with two green stripes forming an outline for the hourglass of the intergalactic peace symbol. When the faceplate is slid back, the Omnitrix's core is revealed.
Purpose[]
The Omnitrix was created by Azmuth as a tool of peace in an act of repentance following the destruction caused by his previous creation, Ascalon, a weapon of terrible power.
To the rest of the universe, the Omnitrix had a two-fold purpose. One was to promote inter-species understanding by allowing other beings to experience different ways of life. The other was to function as a repository for the DNA of over a million different species that Azmuth thinks are intelligent. The samples were scanned, and when necessary, repaired. This collection of DNA was then preserved in the event that any of species catalogued should ever be rendered extinct, allowing the Omnitrix to restore them to life.
Unbeknownst to everyone else, Azmuth had a third reason for creating the Omnitrix. He hoped that his estranged lover Zennith, who had left him as he created Ascalon, would learn of his change and come back to him.
Modes[]
Active Mode[]
Active Mode is the Omnitrix's default mode. The actual usage time is 10 minutes at a time. If he changes from one form to another, the combined time for the changes can be no more than 10 minutes, likely less because of power leakage. Multiple transformations are energy-intensive and deplete the watch's power supply more quickly than single transformations. Three or four transformations would leave him with substantially less than a combined 10 minutes of time. The Omnitrix seems to time out sooner if it's taxed by activities with a lot of moving, like fighting. However, if regular transformations are tampered with, the user can't always turn back.
Recharge Mode[]
When the Omnitrix times out, it goes into Recharge Mode. It takes around 5 minutes to recharge, though it may take more time if tampered with. Recharge Mode's main purpose is to prevent the alien DNA from attaching permanently to its host.
The Omnitrix is powered by a special self-renewable power supply that will long outlive Ben.
The Omnitrix can instantly recharge to protect the user from a direct physical threat. This was shown when Ben was stuck to a wall about to be killed by Kevin 11 and when Zs'Skayr tried to possess Ben. Both times, despite just timing out within a minute earlier, the Omnitrix recharges instantly when the user's life is put in direct threat. This feature was switched off after the recalibration.
If the user is knocked out or hurt enough, the Omnitrix will revert them to their normal form.
Scan Mode[]
Scans DNA by being near the alien it detects. However, if the Omnitrix is far away from the detected sample, the Omnitrix's other functions will be disabled until the alien is scanned.
Self-Destruct Mode[]
In Self-Destruct Mode, the Omnitrix charges energy while counting down until it explodes. S.D.M. functions as a last resort should the Omnitrix fall into the wrong hands. It can be activated by Voice Command.
When in S.D.M. for a few days, the Omnitrix can charge enough energy to cause an energy ripple that will destroy the entire universe. While in S.D.M., the Omnitrix can send out energy bursts capable of throwing the user through the air.
When the S.D.M. is activated, the Omnitrix sends out a signal that any ship can pick up (unless it was activated by Voice Command).
Life-Form Lock[]
Allows the user to stay transformed for an extended period of time without a time-out. It is dangerous to use often.
Master Control[]
The user can transform with a simple thought, neglecting the use of the dial. The limiter is also disabled, allowing the user to stay transformed indefinitely.
Now that Ben is 18 he will receive the Master Control.
Known Aliens[]
The Omnitrix has a total of at least 1,000,912 aliens; 69 have been named and unlocked, and Ben has been seen transforming into 62 of them.
New aliens will come in Ben 10 Unleashed.

Features[]
General[]
- Just like the original Omnitrix and the Ultimatrix, the Omnitrix mainly allows for the user to alter their DNA at will and transform into a numerous variety of alien species that are each with their own unique powers and abilities (along with their weaknesses) and in a selection of alien DNA that is in groups of 10.
- Alien DNA is "injected" into the user, meaning they retain the wielder's personality, memories, and consciousness. Because of this, most of the aliens are not full-blown aliens, and rather hybrids with a small portion of the user's DNA. However, there are exceptions, such as the Ectonurite and Conductoid DNA.
- The Omnitrix has a holographic interface, where a holographic circle is shown, with the top half having alien faces, which is activated and scrolls through the aliens by the user touching the faceplate, or in other ways, scrolling up and down or scrolling in a circle, akin to a touch screen. The faceplate will then slide open automatically after Ben chooses his alien, after that, the Omnitrix's core will come out. When pressed, it will trigger the transformation.
- The Omnitrix has a DNA scanner.
- The Omnitrix has a quick-change feature that automatically transforms the user back to normal when they are done using their transformation, causing it not to time out and allowing the user to transform again far quicker.
- Manually touching the Omnitrix symbol not only can allow the user to immediately transform back into normal, but can also be used to transform into different alien forms while already transformed.
- The Omnitrix has a Master Control.
- The Omnitrix has a Randomizer Function that turns the user into a different amount of aliens at random moments, being randomly selective of the transformations.
- The Omnitrix can add extra features to alien forms in order to make them safer/more stable.
- The Omnitrix can synchronize with another Omnitrix if activated at the same time.
- It is because of this feature that the Omnitrix's counterpart from Dimension 23 has unlocked aliens that it did not have previously.
- The Omnitrix does not rely on the Codon Stream for transformation. Instead, the DNA is stored within itself in a computerized form.
- The Omnitrix can grant its user, as well as an alien form, the ability to speak another language fluently.
- The Omnitrix can change the user's gender to adapt to another species.
Extensions[]
- The Omnitrix has a 2-way communication system with Plumber Badges.
- The Omnitrix can also record messages, similar to voicemail.
- The Omnitrix has the functionalities of a regular digital watch.
- The Omnitrix adapts the user's clothing to the alien they transform into.
- The Omnitrix has a built-in Universal Translator.
- The Omnitrix has a distress signal function and homing device, as Azmuth was able to find and rescue Ben when was trapped inside the Incursean Exile Pod.
- The Omnitrix has a security lock system so that it can only be used by the user, as well as an alternate identification program if changes by outside forces occur to the user.
- The Omnitrix has a failsafe that kicks in in the event that the user's life is in jeopardy. This feature turns them into the needed alien to survive.
- The Omnitrix has failsafes installed by Azmuth that prevent Galvanic Mechamorphs from tampering with the device.
- The Omnitrix has the option of making its symbols disappear.
Voice Command[]
- The Omnitrix can be controlled by Voice Command.
- Omnitrix User Access Voice Recognition Mode
- Makes the Omnitrix recognize Ben
- Command Code 1010 Tennyson Benjamin Disengage Life-Form Lock
- Disengages Life-Form lock
- Omnitrix User Access Voice Recognition Mode
Malfunctions[]
- If the Omnitrix does mistransform, it is because of the user slamming on the Omnitrix's core and (inadvertently) the scroll pad.
- Other reasons for mistransfoming include not perfecting either the preload or proper pressure application and misreading the display. Overall, incorrect transformations are caused by the user's general sloppiness.
- Slamming the core also affects the time limit of a transformation, as the user could stay transformed for hours.
- When switching between aliens, the user could be manipulating the controls. Transforming into another alien without changing back does not always work and is bad for the Omnitrix.
- Much like the original Ultimatrix, the Omnitrix is not hack proof.
- Much like the prototype Omnitrix, this Omnitrix does not have a failsafe against magic.
Color Coding[]
- The Omnitrix could display ten colors, each meaning something different:
- Green: Active Mode
- Red: Recharge Mode
- Yellow: Capture Mode
- Blue: Recalibration Mode
- Purple: Controlled or risk of temporal threat
- Orange: Self Destruct Mode (original Omnitrix form)
- Grey: Inactive Mode
- Black: Stop Mode
- Pink: Under spell effect
