“ | All you do is press this button. Then, when the ring pops up, just twist it until you see the guy you wanna be. Slam it down, and bammo! You're one of ten super-cool alien dudes! | ” |
–Ben explains has figured out how to operate the Omnitrix. |
Omnimatrix Devices are unique level 20 tech devices from the planet Galvan Prime, which were created by Azmuth, and are portable libraries of intergalactic genetic data that allow the wielder to alter their DNA at will and transform into a variety of different alien species, each with their own unique abilities.
These devices are constructed from their matrix cores, which are black devices with circuit patterns, which are what makes the Omnimatrix devices work and can adjust to fit their user and reflect different modes they are in with different colors. In turn, the matrix cores are powered by Infinity, an ancient piece of technology belonging to the vanishing Eternians population.
Omnitrix (Prototype)[]
“ | I didn't create a weapon, all of you did! I created the ultimate device for understanding all the beings of the universe. | ” |
–Azmuth explaining the purpose of the Omnitrix. |
The Omnimatrix, mostly known as the Omnitrix or Omnitrix Prototype, was a watch-like device that attached itself to Ben Tennyson's wrist and did exactly what it did. The device was a portable library of intergalactic genetic data that allowed its wielder to alter their DNA at will and transform into a variety of different alien species, each with their own unique abilities.
The Omnitrix was destroyed in La battaglia finale (Parte II) by Ben and replaced with the Ultimatrix.
Appearance[]
Original[]
In the first form that Ben encountered, the Omnitrix looked like a large wristwatch, primarily black and grey in color, with a grey (or black) dial in the middle (like a watch face) which has a green hourglass shape (universal peace/Galvan Tech symbol) on it. It has a circular tube. When Ben selects his aliens it shows the alien's silhouette.
Recalibrated[]
After recalibrating, the Omnitrix resembled a slimmer and sleeker watch-like shape, now with a green wristband, and the face of the dial becoming black and green. The inside of the hourglass symbol glowed in different colours during certain moments; these colours signify the mode that the Omnitrix was presently in. When Ben is selecting his aliens it shows the alien's hologram standing on the core rather than the alien's silhouette.

Modes[]
Active Mode is the Omnitrix's default mode. The actual usage time is 10 minutes at a time. If he changes from one form to another, the combined time for the changes can be no more than 10 minutes, likely less because of power leakage. Multiple transformations are energy-intensive and deplete the watch's power supply more quickly than single transformations. Three or four transformations would leave him with substantially less than a combined 10 minutes of time. The Omnitrix seems to time out sooner if it's taxed by activities with a lot of moving, like fighting. However, if regular transformations are tampered with, the user can't always turn back. After the Omnitrix recalibrated, the symbols on the aliens were also of the green color, and located on their chests due to a glitch.
When the Omnitrix times out, it goes into Recharge Mode. It takes around 5 minutes to recharge, though it may take more time if tampered with. Recharge Mode's main purpose is to prevent the alien DNA from attaching permanently to its host.
The Omnitrix is powered by a special self-renewable power supply that will long outlive Ben.
The Omnitrix can instantly recharge to protect the user from a direct physical threat. This was shown when Ben was stuck to a wall about to be killed by Kevin 11 and when Zs'Skayr tried to possess Ben. Both times, despite just timing out within a minute earlier, the Omnitrix recharges instantly when the user's life is put in direct threat. This feature was switched off after the recalibration.
If the user is knocked out or hurt enough, the Omnitrix will revert them to their normal form.
The recalibrated Omnitrix times out with no warning due to the warning being switched off when the Omnitrix recalibrated. When the Omnitrix was repairing the DNAliens' to make them human again, the Omnitrix went into Recharge Mode after a while.
After the Omnitrix had reset, the time out warning feature was turned back on. When recharging the hourglass flashes either red instead of remaining a solid red, as it had when the Omnitrix was in its original form. The Omnitrix can alternatively flash green, rather than red, when signalling a time out. When a new DNA sample has been unlocked from the Codon Stream, or when the Omnitrix captures new DNA not present in the Codon Stream, Capture Mode is activated. It can also reclaim lost or removed alien DNA that was in the Codon Stream.
It scans to match the species, then moves the identified species to the active playlist. If it's seen the species before, it does it passively, without Ben actively scanning.
Unlike in the Original Series, the Omnitrix in Alien Force would not scan by touch (due to its recalibration).
The Omnitrix could scan Kevin's mutations, but it was programmed not to.In Self-Destruct Mode, the Omnitrix charges energy while counting down until it explodes. S.D.M. functions as a last resort should the Omnitrix fall into the wrong hands. It can be activated by Voice Command.
When in S.D.M. for a few days, the Omnitrix can charge enough energy to cause an energy ripple that will destroy the entire universe. While in S.D.M., the Omnitrix can send out energy bursts capable of throwing the user through the air.
When the S.D.M. is activated, the Omnitrix sends out a signal that any ship can pick up (unless it was activated by Voice Command), such as when Vilgax picked it up with a stolen ship and Tetrax picked up the signal, likely as a distress signal.
The S.D.M was used and successfully triggered in an attempt to force Vilgax to give it to Ben, although he refused. It only destroyed itself, and not the universe, because it was charged for only 30 seconds (as opposed to a few days). The Omnitrix begins to recalibrate while selecting a set of new aliens.
The Omnitrix makes a beep-like noise, then it changes to a glowing black and green and morphs into its new shape.
The Omnitrix has hundreds of different forms (this is to fit different users).
The Omnitrix gives its wielder a new set of aliens depending on whether it is a hard or soft reset.
When hacking the Omnitrix, Kevin accidentally and briefly reverted the Omnitrix to its original appearance before changing it back. Azmuth could also program it to recalibrate remotely.Features[]
General[]
- The Omnitrix mainly allowed for the user to transform into a numerous variety of alien life-forms that are each with their own unique powers and abilities (along with their weaknesses) and in a selection of alien DNA that is in groups of 10.
- The Omnitrix acted as a wireless receiver for the Codon Stream.
- By accessing the Codon Stream in a faster-than-light manner, the Omnitrix used special Omni-Energy to merge its wearer's DNA with the DNA samples it held to create transformations.
- Alien DNA is "injected" into the user, meaning they retain the wielder's personality, memories, and consciousness. Because of this, most of the aliens are not full-blown aliens, with the exceptions of Ectonurite and Conductoid DNA. The Omnitrix could not transform the user into another of its own species.
- Ben's DNA was stored in the Omnitrix itself instead of the Codon Stream.
- In order for the user to change the size, the matter was created from energy or reconstituted to energy as needed.
- The Omnitrix had a quick change feature.
- The user could change back by turning the second ring on the dial to the 3 o'clock position. When Ben appeared to be changing mentally, it was just a coincidence. He was out of time and changing anyway.
- Manually touching the Omnitrix symbol not only allows the user to immediately transform back to normal but can also be used to change forms while already transformed.
- The Omnitrix could alter its size to fit the user's wrist.
- When transformed, the Omnitrix protected the user from negative effects, including:
- Being possessed by an Ectonurite.
- Exposure to the dangerous effects of Corrodium.
- Being transformed by Dr. Animo's mutant ray.
- The Omnitrix had a built-in energy feedback blast to defend against anyone trying to force it off of its owner.
- Once placed on the wearer, the Omnitrix could not be removed by normal physical means.
- The Omnitrix could show a database image of all aliens unlocked.
- The Omnitrix was able to repair genetic damage, such as turn DNAliens back to normal and remove Xenocites.
- The Omnitrix could genetically manipulate DNA or reprogram a species' DNA (like fuse DNA from different species of aliens).
- The Omnitrix had a scratch guard that Ben didn't know how to remove. It fell off after Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens.
- The Omnitrix changed the aliens' eye color to match the user's eye color.
- The Omnitrix could be synchronized with another Omnitrix, even without the user's intent.
- The Omnitrix was waterproof.
- The Omnitrix could replace one of its DNA samples with someone else from the same species.
- In its recalibrated state, the Omnitrix granted the user full understanding of the aliens' powers upon transforming into them.
- The Omnitrix had the ability to redirect scans from inorganic aliens if the power was boosted.
- The Omnitrix could create an alien species, as with the case of Nanomech.
Extensions[]
- The Omnitrix had AI (Artificial Intelligence).
- The Omnitrix functioned as a GPS.
- The Omnitrix could create a hologram map, which is similar to the one in Plumber Badges.
- The Omnitrix had a 2-way communication system with Plumber Badges.
- The Omnitrix had a built-in Universal Translator and could also translate other Earth languages, but not animal languages.
- The Omnitrix could teleport the user through Azmuth's teleportation channel.
- The Omnitrix had a homing beacon that could guide the user to Xenon if it was ever in the planet's quadrant.
- Once within a close enough range of Xenon, the Omnitrix could fire a beam of green energy that negates the effects of the planet's light-absorbing device.
Color Coding[]
- The Omnitrix could display ten colors, each meaning something different:
- Green: Active Mode
- Red: Recharge Mode
- Yellow: Capture Mode
- Blue: Recalibration Mode
- Purple: Controlled or risk of temporal threat
- Orange: Self Destruct Mode (original Omnitrix form)
- Grey: Inactive Mode
- Black: Stop Mode
- Pink: Under spell effect
Display Modes[]
- The Omnitrix had two known display modes.
- During the Original Series and 0mniSword flashbacks, it was black silhouettes of the aliens.
- After recalibrated, it was changed to dark green holograms of the aliens.
- By changing the settings on the Omnitrix, either of the above display modes could have been used with the Omnitrix in either of its forms.
Clothing[]
- Prior to its recalibration, the Omnitrix automatically used the molecules of its wearer's clothes to create coverings for the aliens. This function was lost when the Omnitrix recalibrated; instead, nanomachines broke its wearer's clothes down and stored them until the transformation ended.
Allocation[]
- When the user was transformed, an Omnitrix symbol appeared on the chest. The symbol was actually the Omnitrix itself, appearing in this form because many species don't have wrists.
- Although the Omnitrix was in the center of the chest area on every alien in Alien Force is for easy access, it was put in different places on some aliens in the Original Series and OmniSword flashbacks.
- The limited positioning of the symbols was the result of a glitch of the Omnitrix.
Voice Command[]
- The Omnitrix could be controlled by voice, called Voice Command.
- Access Master Control
- Unlocks the Master Control but only works to Azmuth's voice.
- Decouple Omnitrix Command Code: 000 - Release Coupling - 0
- Removes the Omnitrix.
- Omnitrix Self Destruct in (time): Command code: 000 - Destruct - 0
- Activates Self-Destruct Mode.
- Abort Self Destruct Code 10
- Deactivates Self-Destruct Mode.
- Omnitrix Reset Code 10
- Activates Reset Mode.
- Omnitrix Abort Reset Code 10
- Deactivates Reset Mode.
- Command Function Override Code 10
- Overrides function.
- Access Master Control
Malfunctions[]
- If the Omnitrix's faceplate cover is broken off, the result was DNA hybrids.
- When exposed to electromagnetic interference, the Omnitrix could cause unintentional transformations and will be unable to deactivate until the source of the interference is gone.
- This could work in reverse, rapidly changing the user from one form to another until someone/something stops it.
- Technical glitches that would leave all the aliens naked and cold.
- Sometimes the Omnitrix would randomly leave the user stuck as an alien for an indefinite amount of time that could only be deactivated by Azmuth hitting the Omnitrix symbol.
- After the Omnitrix recalibrated, any damage the user sustains was retained when said user times out.
- Non-stop transformations could overload the Omnitrix and cause it to break.
- An overload of Mana, or magic in general, could cause the Omnitrix to heavily malfunction.
- If the Omnitrix is creating an alien species, it will not allow the user to transform.

Ultimatrix (Original)[]
“ | I've done it! I've recreated the power of the Omnitrix; no, I've exceeded it! | ” |
–Albedo, upon completing the Ultimatrix. |
The Ultimate Omnimatrix, mainly known as the Ultimatrix, was a version of the Omnitrix prototype created by Azmuth which was later stolen by Albedo and completed by him. After the Omnitrix prototype was destroyed, it was taken by Ben from Albedo and used by him until the Ultimatrix was destroyed until Heart of Etheria project was activated.
Subsequently, Ben replaced the Ultimatrix with the Omnitrix entrusted to him by Azmuth.
Appearance[]
The Ultimatrix, despite being called a watch, bears a gauntlet-like band containing a black rectangular button and wrist couplings, extending up to almost half of the wearer's arm or forearm (since the band's ability to morph its shape was not placed into it) but the central core's form remained the same.
When Albedo used it, the Ultimatrix had a red color scheme. After Ben took the Ultimatrix from Albedo, the Ultimatrix became green. This shows that the user can change the color scheme of the Ultimatrix.
The selection interface was identical to the original Omnitrix's dial, with the Galvan tech logo changing color to reflect what mode the Ultimatrix was in.
Known Users[]
User | Put On | Removal |
---|---|---|
Albedo | Albedo stole the Ultimatrix from Azmuth's laboratory and puts it on in La battaglia finale (Parte I). | In La battaglia finale (Parte II), Albedo removes the Ultimatrix after being threatened by Ben. |
Ben Tennyson | In La battaglia finale (Parte II), Ben puts on the Ultimatrix after getting it from Albedo. | In I racconti del Cremisi, the Ultimatrix was removed by Catra. |
In Mondi im-perfetti (Parte II), Ben put the Ultimatrix back on. | In L'estremo sacrificio, the Ultimatrix was removed when Ben, Adora and Swift Wind went inside it. | |
In L'estremo sacrificio, Ben gets the Omnitrix back, when he got out of it. | In Destino (Parte II), the Ultimatrix was destroyed by Adora and Ben. | |
Alpha | Alpha duplicated the Ultimatrix and used it to transform into EVO versions of its aliens in Ben 10/Generator Rex: Heroes United. | Alpha's Ultimatrix was removed by Rex Salazar. |
Modes[]
Active Mode is the Ultimatrix's default mode. Active Mode is active when the Ultimatrix can be used, is fully recharged, and has not detected any problems.
Unlike the Omnitrix, Recharge Mode is activated when the Ultimatrix runs out of energy rather than time. Recharge Mode can stop automatically, once a certain period of time has passed. Recharge Mode's main purpose is to prevent the alien DNA from attaching permanently to its host. While using regular aliens won't guarantee needing to recharge, using Ultimate Forms are.
When DNA not present in the Codon Stream is near the Ultimatrix, it will close its main features until the DNA is scanned. When a new DNA sample is acquired and added, on occasion, the Ultimatrix can show a visual of almost every alien unlocked, including the new one.
When scanning DNA that was previously used or already present in the Codon Stream, the Ultimatrix identifies and matches the scanned DNA, then moves the species to an active playlist. If it has seen the species before, it passively scans them, without any physical requirement from the user.
During scanning, the Ultimatrix either pops out and shoots out a yellow ray from the black and yellow part or doesn't pop out but circles and then reveals a hole that shoots out a yellow ray. When in alien form, the Ultimatrix shoots out a yellow ray from the dial.
The Ultimatrix could scan Kevin's mutations, but it was programmed not to.When in Self-Destruct Mode, the Ultimatrix counts down until it explodes. Self-Destruct Mode functions as a last resort, should the Ultimatrix fall into the wrong hands. Self-Destruct Mode can be activated and deactivated by Voice Commands, but exclusively recognizes the voice of the user.
Reset Mode can be activated by Voice Command or by pressing and holding the Ultimatrix symbol as an alien for two seconds. During a resetting period, the Ultimatrix deactivates, charges, and re-activates. This can turn off/on some features.
The Ultimatrix shuts down and the core turns completely black, making it of no use.
Radiation Mode is activated when high levels of harmful radiation are detected. The Ultimatrix will beep and flash red. Radiation Mode can be turned off by turning the Ultimatrix symbol to the quarter past position as an alien, or when radiation isn't detected anymore.
Features[]
General[]
- Just like the Omnitrix, the Ultimatrix mainly allowed for the user to transform into a numerous variety of alien life-forms that are each with their own unique powers and abilities (along with their weaknesses) and in a selection of alien DNA that are in groups of 10.
- The Ultimatrix could let the user transform between alien forms with or without touching the Ultimatrix symbol.
- The Ultimatrix automatically reverted the user back into their normal form when they get sufficiently hurt or knocked out.
- The Ultimatrix functioned as a wireless receiver for the Codon Stream.
- The Ultimatrix was able to access the Codon Stream's database to show which transformations have been activated over time.
- The Ultimatrix was able to scan human-alien hybrids and extract pure alien DNA from them.
- The Ultimatrix could replace one of its DNA samples with someone else from the same species.
- The Ultimatrix had a Master Control mode.
- Pressing the navy blue button on its tail end makes the Ultimatrix larger in size, so it can be slipped off.
- The Ultimatrix was waterproof.
- The Ultimatrix was durable enough to take a bullet.
Evolutionary Function[]
- The Ultimatrix had the ability to evolve aliens into their Ultimate Forms, granting them new powers and new abilities that are more powerful. This was activated by pressing the Ultimatrix symbol as an alien, causing four gray spikes to grow from the dial and for the alien to transform (often stylized as green bands of light washing over them).
- The Evolutionary Function worked by placing the selected species in a simulation, right down to the DNA, for an extended period of time, about a million years or so, in what is described as a "worst-case scenario"; the actual DNA is then simply modified to match the new DNA. This survival of the fittest routine explains why the evolutions are more combat-centered than their normal forms.
- The Evolutionary Function drained the Ultimatrix's battery quicker than regular transformations.
- Every DNA can be subjected to the Evolutionary Function, but only if it has been developed.
Extensions[]
- The Ultimatrix had AI (Artificial Intelligence).
- The Ultimatrix could detect other Matrix cores like Eunice.
- The Ultimatrix served as a communicator when transformed and not transformed, like the other Omnitrixes.
- The Ultimatrix had a built-in Universal Translator and could also translate other Earth languages, but not very complex languages or animal languages.
Clothing[]
- While most aliens appeared naked with the Ultimatrix symbol on their chest, the Ultimatrix could change and create different types of clothing or accessories on specific alien forms, as cosmetics, armor, or to make the transformation more safe/stable, like NRG's containment suit.
- Ben didn't quite know how the feature worked whereas Albedo individually applied this function to each of the aliens.
- The Ultimatrix could reconstruct the last thing the user was wearing before they transformed, but Ben did not figure out how to do so.
Voice Command[]
- The Ultimatrix had a Voice Command, just like the Omnitrix.
- Ultimatrix User Access Voice Recognition Mode
- Makes the Ultimatrix recognize the wearer and activates Voice Command Mode.
- Ultimatrix Hard Reset
- Resets the Ultimatrix
- Command Function Override Code 10
- Overrides function.
- Ultimatrix Self Destruct in (time): Command Code: 000 - Destruct 0
- Activates Self-Destruct Mode.
- Abort Self Destruct Code 10
- Deactivates Self-Destruct Mode.
- Ultimatrix Reset Code 10
- Activates Reset Mode
- Ultimatrix Abort Reset Code 10
- Deactivates Reset Mode
- For the honor of Grayskull + It's hero time
- Activates Bracelet of Infinity Mode
- Ultimatrix User Access Voice Recognition Mode
Malfunctions[]
- The Ultimatrix couldn't detect outer dimensional creatures.
- The Ultimatrix did not possess the ability to restore DNA.
- The Ultimatrix always went into Capture Mode whenever there was a sapient species' DNA that is not in the Codon Stream within its proximity. Thus, it couldn't be used to transform until the DNA is obtained or the specimen is no longer in range.
- The Ultimatrix did not possess the ability to revive species stored on Primus, due to it not being added by Azmuth at the stage of development it was in and Albedo didn't add it.
- The Ultimatrix could be hacked, copied, or absorbed.
- Meanwhile, the sentient nanite Alpha was able to absorb and copy the Ultimatrix due to the passive nanites the watch absorbed from Rex Salazar.
- The Ultimate Forms eventually became sentient inside the Ultimatrix, due to a glitch in the Evolutionary Function.
- The Ultimatrix will always transform the user into what they were wearing during the reboot, therefore, Ben would always return to his normal clothing no matter what he was wearing pre-transformation.
- Even though the Evolution Feature can be used on Ultimate Forms infinite times, the resulting evolutions may not turn out the way the user would like.
- Technical glitches that would leave all the aliens naked and cold.
- Azmuth reformatted and corrected these errors in the Omnitrix.

Trivia[]
Omnitrix (Prototype)[]
- The Omnitrix was originally called the Megawatt (alternatively spelled "Megawhat"), short for Megadeoxyribonucleictransdimensionaltransforminalnumerator.
- The Galvans were the first species added to the Omnitrix. However, Materia Grigia's DNA sample came from neither Azmuth nor Albedo.
- The Omnitrix contained Vilgax's DNA until the power surge on the Chimeran Hammer caused it to malfunction and deleted the DNA.
- The Omnitrix's green glow is its unique DNA energy signal.
- Ben's transformations happen in an instant.
- Many of the problems Ben had with getting the Omnitrix to work were also safeguards put there by Azmuth.
- Azmuth compared the Omnitrix to Noah's Ark and Ben to Noah.
- The Omnitrix was originally intended for Max and was programmed to work for his DNA because Ben is Max's grandson, the close genetic match is what allowed him to use it.
- Before the events of Ben 10: Il segreto dell'Omnitrix, the Omnitrix's power source was the Infinity. After Azmuth replaced the matrix, the power source became smaller and more powerful than the Sub Energy.
- Originally, the aliens' Omnitrix symbols' grey and white coloration in the Original Series was caused by a malfunction.
- Besides being the intergalactic peace symbol, the Omnitrix's hourglass symbol serves as the insignia for the Galvan's society.
- The Omnitrix's voice-activated self-destruct sequence is the same code from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock that James T. Kirk used to activate the Enterprise's one minute self-destruct sequence (000 destruct-0).
- Ben set several layers of security to the recalibrated Omnitrix, coded to his DNA and voice, to make tampering more difficult. This is one of the reasons Vilgax was unable to manipulate the Omnitrix like he did in the Original Series.
Ultimatrix (Original)[]
- The Ultimatrix was showing signs of it not being completed properly. Azmuth even considered the Ultimatrix to be "pathetic workmanship" and not at all as advanced as the original Omnitrix.
- Albedo installed more features in the Ultimatrix than is officially known.
- Azmuth did not want to have the Ultimates in the Ultimatrix because they would be used for violence. He even commented on the Evolutionary Function, stating it was "begging for trouble".
- The Ultimatrix's mistransformations were not entirely the fault of Albedo's shoddy work.
- Most of the Ultimatrix aliens were both prime specimens and optimized adults of their respective species with the exception being Alienics because he is a typical representation of his race.
- However, this may not be correct, as the way age affects the transformations has been inconsistently represented throughout the series.
- Unlike the original Omnitrix, the Ultimatrix at no point contained Vilgax's DNA.
- Seeing as the Ultimatrix never attempted to scan Vilgax, it seems likely that it had access to another sample of Chimera Sui Generis DNA.
- Ben scanned aliens off-screen and reordered his list afterwards. Thus, Ben had many more aliens than revealed. However, he didn't scan them at every chance he got.
- Most of the unseen aliens available in the Ultimatrix were unlocked by Ben 10,000 "because it'll annoy Azmuth".
- Azmuth could keep an eye on Ben and his activities via the Ultimatrix.
- The hourglass of Alpha's Ultimatrix being colored red was likely due to being powered by his corruptive Nanites which glow red in color.
