Muggara is an alien created by CaT that is free for anyone to use as long as they give proper credit.

Abilities[]

Muggara has various traits typically associated with crocodilian lifeforms, such as enhanced swimming, excellent senses, a massive bite force, and a tough leathery hide, though in Muggara's case these traits are boosted to superhuman (supercrocodilian?) levels.

Muggara's most notable ability is his Death Roll; while similar to the technique used by Earth crocodiles, Muggara's Death Roll can reach speeds over Mach 1. Combined with Muggara's unrivaled bite force making him impossible to shake off, this physics-defying stunt allows Muggara to tear apart objects that even Tetramands would struggle to break.

While dangerous enough when wielded normally, the spikes covering Muggara's body transform into a deadly storm of blades when he enters his Death Roll, shredding apart anyone and anything stupid enough to approach the rapidly rotating reptile spinning at impossible speeds.

Despite being a walking life insurance liability for his enemies, Muggara is actually safer than not to have as an ally when traversing large bodies of water, as he can safely ferry people he likes across even the stormiest of seas.

Weaknesses[]

Muggara's jaw muscles are incredibly powerful at biting down, but rather weak at opening up, and even the average human wouldn't have much trouble holding his mouth closed. Granted, this would most likely put you within gutting range of his claw-like fingers, but hey, you could do it.

Planet and Species Information[]

Muggara is an Alustrus from the planet Appoplexia.

Compared to the other sentient beings of Appoplexia, Alustrus are practically pacifists, spending most of their free time resting. While they are primarily solitary beings, they are not particularly territorial, and will typically be cordial when encountering other members of their species.

The trouble starts when they happen to cross paths with the other sentient species on their planet.

Appoplexians and Alustrus are both apex predators that hunt many of the same prey species. If they encounter each other during a hunt, the Appoplexian will attack almost immediately in an attempt to drive the Alustrus away from their common prey. Depending on the Alustrus involved in these incidents, this will typically result in one of two outcomes: either the Alustrus determines the fight not to be worth it and retreats, or there is soon going to be a very dead Appoplexian.

Conflicts between Appoplexleo and Alustrus are much rarer than those between Appoplexians and Alustrus due to the two species inhabiting less shared territory, but when they do occur, the Appoplexleo tend to come out on top thanks to their ranged abilities. Some Appoplexleo are known to actively hunt Alustrus for food, but this is generally frowned upon given the Alustrous' sentient nature.

Left to their own devices, Alustrus are rather savvy hunters, known for setting large pieces of material out on riverbanks that their prey uses for nest building. Once their prey has weighed themselves down by picking up the material, the Alustrous burst out of their hiding spot in the water and hit them with a Death Roll before they can drop the material and get away.

Appearances[]

If you use Muggara in your series, please note their appearance(s) here.

Etymology[]

  • Muggara is named after the mugger crocodile and the mythical Hindu sea creature Makara (which is associated with the mugger crocodile).
  • The species name Alustrous is a corruption of the words "palustris" (derived from the mugger crocodile's scientific name, Crocodylus palustris) and "illustrous".

Trivia[]

  • Muggara was originally created to serve as the basis for the alien abilities of Capricorn, a member of the Zodiac Organization from Star Spirit Imaginate. In order to avoid repetition with Ares' ram/goat theme, Capricorn's associated alien was based on Makara, Capricorn's equivalent in Hindu astrology.
  • Muggara's ability to safely transport people across rough waters is a reference to Makara's status as a vahana (vehicle/mount) for the river goddess Ganga, the goddess river Narmada, and the god of the ocean, Varuna.
  • The Alustrus' conflicts with Appoplexians and Appoplexleo are based on the real-life conflicts the mugger crocodile has with tigers and lions, respectively.
    • In a similar vein, their hunting method of luring in prey with nesting materials is based on the real-life mugger crocodile's behavior of doing essentially the same thing to hunt birds. This use of lures makes mugger crocodiles some of the first reptiles recorded using tools.
