===Background===
Metalink grew up in an unknown time period at least 6 generations prior to the current one where he was known by his true name, Link. He knew a girl named Ellen whom he was engaged to before a freak accident sent him into the future. For a short time, he inhabited the 1980s, before being accelerated a decade to the 90s. He has been living in this future since then.

When he arrived, for a long time he managed to sustain life in his normal human form, but after a time, he began to fall suit to the diseases brought to the future from his time. Dr. Aloysius James Animo became his supplier, giving him an exosuit that requires regular recharging to keep him alive. After Dr. Animo was defeated and imprisoned in ''[[Dial Z for Zombified]]'', Link's suit began to fail due to lack of power.

Seeking to return to his fiancée Ellen in ''[[Happily Never Happened]]'', he sought Ben and the [[Assault Omnitrix]] for true power that would allow him to activate a machine located in [[Chronospect]] that would send a person anywhere in time.

It was revealed by Clockwork, a member of the [[Timekeepers]], that Link was kept in this time period because things in the past would not have worked out had he stayed. He was then imprisoned in a Chronospect prison for twenty years for his crimes.
