Merle Ambrose is the headmaster of Wizard City.

He looks like a very, very, very old man with a glass monocle. He hold's a staff with a question mark-like end point. His hat goes straight up, then sideways, then up again. He wears a purple robe, and pointy purple shoes. He has a white beard, and white eyebrows. His hat and robe are dotted with stars.

Merle Ambrose is the founder of Bartleby, the grandfather of Wizard City. He is also the founder of Wizard City itself. He came across Bartleby one day, before Wizard City was invented, and teamed up with him. Bartleby created Wizard City for Ambrose, and Ambrose took the rights of keeping it under control and owning it. He created the schools of Life, Death, Myth, Balance, Fire, Ice, and Storm, along with two secret schools, the Sun and Star schools. He trained Sylvia Drake, Malistaire Drake, Cyrus Drake, Halstron Balestrom, Lydia Greyrose, and Dalia Falmea to be the school proffesers. After Sylvia Drake died, Merle replaced her with Moolinda Wu as the new life spells teacher.
