Plot[]
Ben, Steven, and Amethyst were sat in Steven’s room, watching the TV. On it was one of Steven’s favorite shows, Crying Breakfast Friends. One of the characters, named Crying Pear was eating some ice cream when suddenly it fell on the ground, Pear began crying. His friend, Sad Spoon, walked over and saw her friend crying and began to cry as well.
“This show is weird man,” Ben said.
“Why don't they just eat the ice cream off the floor?” Amethyst asked, “There's nothing to cry over!”
Suddenly, the TV began glitching out, and the image turned to static, “Aw man, not again,” Steven said, “It was doing this yesterday too,” he hit the side of the TV a few times, it began to shake and whir, “It’s never done that before…”
The TV started making sounds like speech, “This- freq- Earth-” Amethyst shook the TV again, the image cleared up, it was Peridot, “This is Peridot transmitting on all frequencies from abandoned crystal system colony planet Earth, to Yellow Diamond. My mission has been compromised, my escort and informant are gone and I am now stranded!” She desperately yelled, “Please send help!” The message played on a loop.
“I just called Connie, it’s on her TV too,” Steven said.
“That just leaves one question, how is Peridot broadcasting a signal this strong?” Pearl asked.
“She built a working Omnitrix out of junk and you’re wondering how she made a TV signal?” Ben asked.
“There is one way,” Garnet said.
They made their way to somewhere in the middle of a desert, they rode on the back of Lion who opened a portal right to a big glowing tower made of crystal.
“She rebuilt it!” Pearl said.
“Probably with Kevin’s help,” Garnet said, “I can’t believe she’s using that boy for her own personal gain.”
“Well it ain’t that big of a deal,” Amethyst said, “We can just use Sugilite to bust it down like last time, right Garnet?”
“No,” Garnet said bluntly.
“Wh-why not?” Amethyst asked.
“Last time, Sugilite went on a rampage, we can’t even use this Warp Pad any more!” Garnet pointed to the shattered warp pad.
“Who’s Sugilite?” Ben asked Steven.
“Garnet and Amethyst’s fusion, we don’t really talk about her,” Steven answered.
Garnet took off her visor, “Listen Amethyst, I can be brash, you can be reckless. And we can both get carried away,” She put her visor back on, Amethyst could see her reflection in it, “So, for the time being, Sugilite is benched. What we need now is to be careful,” Garnet turns to Pearl and holds out her hand, “It's you and me, Pearl. Let's fuse,” Pearl gasps and begins to tear up, “Don't cry, Pearl.”
Pearl sniffles, “Ok, ok,” She wipes her tears from her face.
Garnet’s gemstones glow, “Ready.”
Pearl stretched, “Hold on, it’s been a little while,” her Gemstone glowed, “Ready.”
Amethyst sat down next to Ben and Steven as Garnet and Pearl began their fusion. They danced as they approached each other, Pearl pressed her back against Garnet then Garnet scooped her up, dipped her, and threw her up in the air, Pearl twirled as she fell back down to Garnet. As Garnet caught Pearl their bodies glowed and formed a ball of light, the light shot up and formed a curtain, they were pulled back and revealed Sardonyx!
“Gooooooooood evening everybody!” She said excitedly, the curtains behind her became dragonflies that flew around, Lion attempted to eat a few of them, Sardonyx put her lower arms on her hips and stuck her other arms in the air, “This, is the lovely Sardonyx, coming to you live from the soon-to-be-former Communication Hub! How are y’all doin’ tonight?”
“Great,” Amethyst said sarcastically.
“GIANT WOMAN!” Steven said excitedly.
“Oh, my stars! Steven Universe!” Sardonyx said excitedly, she picked him up and said, “I have heard so much about you!” She rotated her upper torso, “So, was I worth the wait? What am I saying? Of course, I was! Ohohoho!~”
“Wow! You’re so articulated!” Steven said.
Sardonyx set down Steven and then turned her attention toward Ben, she chuckled awkwardly, “Sorry about last time, ehehe.”
“What?”
“Ehem, anyway… I’m SO excited to be here! I haven’t exactly been myself lately! OHOHOHOHO!~”
“Hehehe, fusion joke!” Steven said. Amethyst groaned.
“Oh, jokes aren’t the only thing I’ve got!” She summoned a large spear from Pearl’s gem, she twirled it a bit before throwing it up in the air. She then summoned Garnet’s gauntlets and caught the spear. The spear and Gauntlets combined into a giant hammer, which she rested on her shoulder.
“Oh cool!” Ben said.
“ARE YOU GONNA SMASH THINGS WITH YOUR GIANT HAMMER!?” Steven asked excitedly.
“Smash!? Oh heavens no!” Sardonyx said, “Smash is a word I’d use to describe… someone else’s actions.”
Amethyst scoffed at her.
Sardonyx jumped up and prepared her hammer, “Now, the proper words used to describe yours truly are…” She hit a column of the communication hub, “Specific!” She proceeded to continue hitting columns, “Intelligent! Accurate! Faultless!” she jumped over the Hub, eclipsing herself in front of the moon, “Elegant!” She continued hitting columns, “Controlled! Surgical! Graceful!” She jumped again to the top and prepared to make the finishing blow, “And… POWERFUL!” She stopped herself before making contact with the tower, “But yes, on occasion, I am known to smash!” She lightly tapped the finally supporting column making the whole tower collapse.
Steven and Ben were starstruck. Sardonyx gracefully landed on the ground, “Now if you’re ever in need of the lovely Sardonyx again, let Pearl and Garnet know, I’ll be there in a flash, literally!”
In a flash of light she unfused leaving Pearl and Garnet in her place, they looked at each other and laughed.
Steven cheered and ran up to them, “YOU TWO WERE AMAZING!”
“Well, I don’t know about all that!” Pearl said, blushing.
Garnet cheered, “We were awesome! Haha!”
Later, Ben, Garnet, and Steven were sitting in front of the TV, watching Crying Breakfast Friends again, “Why Pear? Why did you lie to me!?” Sad Spoon wined.
“I didn’t mean toooooooooooo!” Crying Pear responded.
They both cried together.
“Oh no!” Steven said, “I hope she forgives her!” Steven said, “Don’t you think she should Garnet?”
“Eh,” Garnet replied.
Amethyst walked out of her room, Steven waved to her, “Amethyst! You’re missing crying breakfast friends! It s a really good one!”
“Not really,” Garnet said.
“Save me,” Ben said with a cold look in his eyes.
“Nah, I’m good…” Amethyst said, she grabbed a carton of eggs from the fridge and took a bite out of it.
“That’s ok! I’m recording it to watch later!”
Just then, the TV glitched again, Peridot’s face appeared, “-crystal system colony planet Earth, to Yellow Diamond. My mission has been compromised…”
“Peridot!” Garnet said, standing up, “Pearl! The signal’s back!”
“Again?” Pearl said surprised.
“We need to get out there!” Garnet said.
“Right,” said Pearl, “Ben, Steven, go find Lion! Amethyst, stop eating the eggs!”
They made their way back, and Sardonyx formed again, “Well I’ll be! It seems the audience wants an encore! Not that I’m complaining of course!~”
Ben and Steven looked in excitement.
“Now, for this act, I think I need some help from a member in the audience,” She looked at her small crowd, “How about you, the one in green!”
She put one of her hands on the ground, Ben hopped on.
“Now, I’d like you to become an alien that's big, strong, and most of all, durable!”
“Heh, ok,” Ben activated the Omnitrix and twisted the dial, slapped it down, and became Diamondhead, “This good enough for ya?”
“Oh, it’s PERFECT darling!” Sardonyx threw Ben up in the air, then used her hammer to launch him at the tower, knocking out one of the pillars, she continued to do this for all of them.
While Sardonyx destroyed the tower again, Amethyst walked off and sang,
“Maybe you're better off with her.
I think she's better for you.
I forgot how great it felt to be us.
Guess I got carried away…”
Steven turned to see Amethyst had walked away, and listened to her singing.
“I had to use you to make me feel strong.
But I don't care about that now.
I see a tower built out of my mistakes,
and it all comes crashing down,” She turned to see Sardonyx finish off the tower, “Is there something I can doo-oo?
Is there something I can doo-oo-oo?
Is there something I can doo-oo?
Can I make it up to you?”
“Hm,” Steven thought for a moment, and then turned to see Sardonyx unfuse, and Pearl cheering happily again, while Ben turned human and tried to shake off the dizziness.
Late that night, Steven, Ben, and Amethyst returned to the dessert on Lion.
“Peridot came here twice right?” Steven asked, “So she’s bound to come again! And that’s when we get her!”
“Yeah! Then Garnet will think I’m cool again!” Amethyst said.
“And I can finally punch Kevin’s smug face in again!” Ben said.
“That was Dr. Jotaro that punched him,” Steven said.
“I got a few hits in!” Ben said.
“Not really,” Amethyst said chuckling.
Ben sighed, and they all sat behind a rock together. Steven pulled a few snacks out of Lion’s mane and gave some to Ben and Amethyst.
Steven stuck a telescope out of a hole in the rocks and looked around, “Nothing… more nothing… OH, THERE SHE IS!”
“Were!?” Ben and Amethyst asked, getting ready to fight.
“Oh wait, no, that’s just a weird cactus,” Ben and Amethyst groaned.
They continue waiting, Ben and Amethyst start getting bored, Ben started fiddling with the Omnitrix, “Think if I keep messing with it I could get a new alien or something?” he asked.
Steven ignored him while he was staring at his fingers while moving them close and apart from each other.
“What are you doin’,” Amethyst asked.
“If you make your eyes all blurry, it looks like there's a magic floating sausage,” Steven said, not turning his attention away from his fingers.
Ben and Amethyst tried it, but Amethyst grew a little frustrated, “This sucks, it doesn’t even work.”
“Here, try this,” Steven moved her hair away from her eye.
“Hey, don’t mess with my- woah,” Amethyst looked at her fingers in awe, as Steven chucked.
Just then they saw a light from behind them, they peeked over the rocks and saw some sort of space ship.
“What is that thing?” Ben asked.
“Oh hey! I’ve seen one of those,” Amethyst said, “That’s one of those Plumber ships, Rose used to have one!”
“What’s a Plumber ship doing out here?” Ben asked.
The ship shot out a tractor beam and began reassembling the hub.
“No way!” Amethyst said, “Is… Peridot in there?”
After the tower was finished being assembled, the ship landed, the door opened, and out stepped… Pearl.
Everyone gasped, “Pearl!?” they all said together.
“Why would Pearl put the hub back together!?” Ben asked.
“Uh, maybe she wants to study how it works?” Steven suggested.
“No…” Amethyst said, “She would know all about those, she’s the oldest Gem I know.”
Pearl touched the hub, and her Gem glowed, the hub started up.
Ben, Steven, and Amethyst looked at each other in worry.
The next morning, Amethyst and Steven were sitting in Steven’s room, Pearl was down in the kitchen preparing Steven’s breakfast.
They looked at each other and switched the TV on, and sure enough, they were met with Peridot repeating the same message.
“Oh, dear!” Pearl said, she walked over and looked at the TV, “This is no good!”
“Uh, what’s wrong?” Steven asked, trying to sound oblivious.
“Well, it’s Peridot!” she said, “She must’ve rebuilt the hub again! I’ll go get Garnet, Steven, see if Ben’s available!”
Steven didn’t bother grabbing his phone, “I… doubt he would want to deal with this…”
Pearl raised an eyebrow, “Er, alright then,” she got up to get Garnet.
The Crystal Gems went back to the dessert.
“Alright Garnet, no big deal, we can just tear this tower down as many times we need to! Together! Ok?”
Garnet nodded, they danced and fused into Sardonyx, “Tada~ Sardonyx is back! Did anyone miss me? Oh of course you did!”
Steven and Amethyst stood there awkwardly.
“Hm, tough crowd, I suppose that’s what I get for performing so early in the morning! Ohhoho~” Sardonyx summoned her hammer and prepared to destroy the tower when Steven interrupted.
“Sardonyx wait!” he had her attention, “There’s something... important you should know!”
“Hm? Whatever could it be, darling?”
Steven hesitated, but Amethyst stepped up, “Pearl! You gotta tell Garnet what you did!”
Sardonyx looked shocked, “What I… what… she… AUGH!” Sardonyx fell apart, leaving Garnet and Pearl in her place.
“Pearl, you…” Garnet said getting up.
“Garnet, I can explain!” Pearl started.
“You… YOU REBUILT THE HUB?” She stepped toward Pearl, scorching the grass that she stepped on.
“No! Peridot was the one who fixed it… the first time!” Garnet got closer as Pearl inhaled sharply, “Garnet, please, I just, I just needed a reason to fuse with you!”
“What?”
“It’s just… so much fun being Sardonyx with you!” Pearl said.
Garnet glared at her, when Amethyst stepped up, “Wait, Garnet! We- we’re so much weaker than you, and you’re a perfect Fusion! It’s just, we’d like to feel that kind of strength sometimes-”
Garnet cut her off, “Don’t you DARE defend her!” Garnet turned to Pearl, “Peridot and Malachite are out there, SOMEWHERE! Not only that, but Peridot is using an innocent human to move along her plans, putting him in harm’s way, and you were distracting us with NOTHING!”
“Garnet! I just… I wanted to share a few more victories with you, this would’ve been the last time!”
“Those weren’t victories! Those were you being selfish!”
“Garnet…”
Garnet took a deep breath and exhaled a small cloud of cold air, “That’s. Enough.” She turned to Amethyst, “Amethyst, fuse with me.”
“But, Garnet-” Amethyst started.
Garnet gritted her teeth, “Let’s get this over with.”
Amethyst and Garnet danced and fused into Sugilite. The hulking, four-armed Gem roared as she winded up her two right arms and punched the Hub with so much force that it collapsed. Steven turned to see Pearl, staring and shaking as the tower fell to the ground.
“Geez, Garnet YELLED at her?” Ben asked, the next day.
“Yeah, it was… awful,” Steven said.
“Is Pearl gonna be ok?” Connie asked.
“I don’t know,” said Steven, “She’s not… taking it well.”
“Well, I hope it all works out,” Jolyne said.
“Me too,” Steven said, looking down.
