Episode 4: Analog Rationality is the fourth episode of Inside the ExOS.
Synopsis
Carth talks about the Original unfinished draft of Virtual Insanity, written between April 6th and August 27th, 2019, as well as breaks down the references in the released episode.
Story
Alright, here we go again. This episode also went through some turbulence like Forevergreen did, only one act's worth of the script was completed. Here's the original take.
First of all, Ben never used Brainstorm or Four Arms in the final episode. And the way the get into the virtual world was heavily overhauled, what was I thinking with the stupid helmets?
Originally, Cooper would've been able to control the Omnitrix from the outside, in a similar way to what happened in the Alen Force episode "Singlehanded"
Oh, scrapped monsters! The "Crab Guys" in the episode would've been known as "Electrokrustaceans", and both the Stinkhornets and Roachers were under a different name, and Roachers used a different alien sample.
Completely left out Ben's acknowledgement of the Resolute, and the reference to Cooper's dog... yeah, since this is only one act, there's not a lot to say, so now, let's break down the Code Lyoko references present in the final version of the episode.
Monsters
Each of the monsters present in the episode were inspired by X.A.N.A.'s monsters from Code Lyoko, crossed with alien DNA.
- Stinkhornets = Hornets/Frolions + Stinkfly
- Kannontanker = Megatank + Cannonbolt/Prototype Cannonbolt
- Roacher = Kankrelat/Roachster + Ball Weevil
- Aeroray = Manta + Jet Ray
- Volkanyte = Volkanoid + Heatblast
- The To'kolossus = The Kolossus + Way Big, Heatblast, Diamondhead and Ghostfreak
- Electrokrustacean = Krabe + Brainstorm
The entity that escaped the watch will not be mentioned.
The Inside World
The existence of the five territories (Desert, Ice, Forest, Mountain, Core) and the transport system is near identical to how Lyoko works.
The pillar of light that appears when the Kannontanker is destroyed is also a direct nod, as that's what happens when X.A.N.A.'s monsters fall into what's known as the Digital Sea.
The Title
While the episode's title is from a Jamiroquai song, the reference goes deeper. Another Jamiroquai song, "Love Foolosophy", was used (probably illegally) at the end of Code Lyoko's original pilot, Garage Kids.
The Ending
The final scene in the released episode is directly based on one of the first shots of the Garage Kids pilot.
It's anyone's guess what that thing that escaped the watch could be...
