First Appearance Lose Yourself

Gwendolyn "Gwen" Tennyson (born December 27, 1994) is the deuteragonist of Ben 10: Missing Pieces and Ben 10: Protector of the Omniverse. She first appeared in Lose Yourself. She is a human/Anodite hybrid from the planet Earth and a member of Alien Force. She is the Timeline 1 equivalent of the canon Gwen.

Appearance

Regular Appearances

Human Form

In Lose Yourself, 10-year old Gwen had her original series appearance.

In Up to 11, 15-year old Gwen had her Alien Force Season 3 appearance.

In Protector of the Omniverse, 19-year old has her Alien Force Season 3 appearance. However, her shirt is blue, her pants are white and her vest is red, and it is shaped differently, also now having a zipper. She wears a black belt with her signature cat symbol in the middle, colored light pink. She also now has bangs.

Her colors match the color palette of Heroes United.

Anodite Form

In Protector of the Omniverse, Gwen's Anodite form has her Alien Force/Ultimate Alien appearance, but she wears clothes, depending on what her human form was wearing before the transformation. Her colors match the color palette of Heroes United.

Occasional Appearances

Gwen's Lucky Girl costume has its Alien Force/Ultimate Alien appearance, but with light blue gloves and a light blue belt. Her mask is infused with magic properties, which allows it to conceal her true appearance to anyone other than her closest allies.

Gwen sometimes wears a Plumber suit on missions. While doing so, she lets her hair down.

Personality

At times she trusts others too quickly, and that may be a disadvantage or even injure her. She can handle dangerous situations, despite their often unfavorable conditions.

Gwen is at times shown to be very concerned with the well-being of things around her, such as her surroundings, the people around her, and those she cares about. She is very strong both physically and mentally and well mannered, despite her inflating sarcasm and ego at certain times. Gwen is a very caring, compassionate person, as shown by her acceptance of Kevin's past and recent actions, as well as her statements that she does not care about Kevin's appearance.

Deep down, Gwen is an overachiever and feels the need to be as perfect as possible, due in part to her mother Natalie pushing her to her limits as a child. As such, Gwen often keeps busy with various activities to keep herself at her peak.

History

Prior to Missing Pieces

Gwen went through the same events as her canon equivalent as depicted in the original series, Destroy All Aliens and some of the Omniverse flashbacks, though in the latter case, Gwen was still 10 instead of 11. Furthermore, Albedo was replaced by Myaxx in this timeline's version of Trouble Helix.

Missing Pieces

In Lose Yourself, Feedback was forcibly removed from the Omnitrix by Malware. Gwen held him off while Max and Azmuth talked to Ben. While she held her own for a while, she was overpowered, though Max helped her defeat Malware by sending him to the Null Void.

In 2008, Gwen and Max freed a 15-year old Kevin from the Null Void. Although it is unknown what happened during this event, it explains why Gwen was so quick to trust him in Alien Force.

In 2010, Gwen went through the same events as her canon equivalent as depicted in the first two seasons of Alien Force.

Immediately after War of the Worlds: Part 2, made her relationship with Kevin official. Three and a half months later, Gwen was offered a spot in Friedkin University, located in another town. While Gwen and Kevin initially intended to pursue a long distance relationship, Kevin decided he wanted to move away with her to be closer to her.

In Up to 11, Myaxx teleported Ben, Gwen and Kevin to Azmuth's lab after Albedo arrived, armed with a new device named the Antitrix, and demanded that Azmuth restore his original form. Ben fought Albedo while Gwen and Kevin heard the story of how the Galvans built Galvan Mark II after the Highbreed destroyed the original Galvan Prime. Gwen persuaded Azmuth to help Albedo return to his original form, saying that he would do no further harm once he achieved his goal. Azmuth eventually agreed and they interrupted Ben and Albedo's fight to deliver the news. Azmuth explained that he did not have the time or patience to build what was necessary to restore his original form, but he could instead unlock the Galvan sample in the Omnitrix and sync the Antitrix with the Omnitrix so that Albedo would gain access to the sample. Albedo reluctantly agreed and Azmuth did what was necessary. Shortly after Albedo turned into a Galvan, he mutated due to the low-quality components he used to build the Antitrix. Ben tried to cure him with the Omnitrix, but was unsuccessful. Blinded by rage, Albedo started blaming Ben, but Ben quickly defended himself, saying he had nothing to do with his decision to create the Antitrix and that he could still make a better future for himself. Impressed with Ben's wisdom, Azmuth re-unlocked all of Ben's previously-used aliens except for Feedback and left the room with Albedo. Ben expressed that he was going to miss Gwen and Kevin, but Gwen said they still had some time before that was going to happen and promised to visit on special occasions. The trio then returned to Earth.

Gwen and Kevin left Bellwood the following January and Gwen decided to adopt her Lucky Girl persona to fight crime in secret.

Powers and Abilities

Mana Manipulation and Energy Control

Gwen's magical powers are of alien descent from her grandmother Verdona, a member of a free-spirited alien race of pure energy beings known as Anodites, from the planet Anodyne. Gwen didn't inherit the powers, but shares a "knack" for mana manipulation, possibly because Verdona manipulated mana in her human form. Verdona herself has explained to Gwen that, like herself, she is an Anodite and has "the spark," and thus is able to freely manipulate and control mana or life energy, the substance of magic.

Gwen can create energy blasts, streams, waves and bolts, as well as energy force-fields, shields and barriers. Her powers are mainly used like energy constructs, allowing her to make many different types of structures like, hammers, protective helmets, battering rams, beams to grab and throw enemies, stepping stones/platforms to carry her and others though air, safety nets, magic weapons: swords, blades and punches. It also turns out Gwen can also synchronize her martial arts styles with her energy manipulation abilities.

Gwen has more mana-related powers: She can find any person she wants by detecting the traces of mana that he/she left or by being at one with the cosmic mana. She can distinguish Ben and Albedo by reading their auras. She can also draw in mana from everything around her. She also has a degree of enhanced strength and durability.

She also has the abilities of telekinesis, teleportation, heat vision, clairvoyance, telepathy and healing herself and other living beings. She can also transform into an Anodite. In her Anodite form her powers are greatly enhanced, giving her the abilities of flight and size alteration.

In addition, her Anodite powers get stronger over time.

Magic and Spells

Gwen is seen using magic through casting magical, mystical spells, and reciting spoken incantations thus enabling her to use various magical powers and abilities.

On two occasions, Gwen used the five mystical Charms of Bezel to become a superheroine by the name of Lucky Girl. At first, her power and ability drew from the luck-granting Charm of Bezel, which innately gave her complete and perfect luck in everything she did. While wearing the charm, any action she took would result in a chain reaction benefiting her original intent, but usually injuring Ben in the process. Gwen later brought back her superhero identity after obtaining the legendary lost Keystone of Bezel, which greatly increased her natural abilities to superhuman levels rather than just affecting her luck. Both times, Gwen was forced to retire when the five Charms and Keystone of Bezel were destroyed.

Gwen claims that being self-taught in magic is not so easy as it looks.

She has also learned to astral project through magic.

Gwen's spells seem to react to Gwen's emotional desires.

Athletics and Martial Arts

Gwen is a capable gymnast and martial artist. Even in the original series, she was occasionally shown to be quite good in hand-to-hand combat fights against enemies who had normal strength levels. She was part of her school's Jujutsu team. At the age of fifteen it is revealed that she has already received a black belt in Taekwondo.

When preferring to use her athletics during fights or when she cannot rely on her magical and Anodite powers, she is shown to be highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat.

Gwen does martial arts, horseback riding, softball, skiing and cross country. Gwen has been shown creating a whip of mana energy and using it as a weapon along with her fighting skills.

Knowledge and Intelligence

Gwen is very intelligent and knowledgeable. Before discovering her dormant Anodite powers, she would often use her superior intellect to help Ben solve problems. She is shown to be a bit of computer and tech wiz as well. She has her own laptop which she uses to research enemies she meets.

Weaknesses

Gwen cannot track Ectonurites, as they have no mana, nor does her tracking work well with non-biological life forms.

Gwen's Anodite energy can also have trouble with technology and vice versa. For example, in an area riddled with technology, Gwen may struggle to track the location of someone.

Gwen's raw mana attacks are useless against Geochelone Aerios. Magic can also be used to similarly ward beings against mana attacks.

Gwen can be drained of her energy to the point of death or being rendered powerless.

While Gwen is very powerful, she almost always holds back during battle so as to not damage her opponent too much. This may lead to her opponent gaining the upper hand, thus injuring her instead.

  • Kevin Levin: Following their departure from Bellwood, Gwen and Kevin are now much more emotionally intimate as they now understand each other on a deeper level. Gwen is supportive of Kevin's endeavors and empathetic towards him, especially when his insecurities get the best of him. Kevin has helped Gwen become slightly more relaxed and often reminds her that, contrary to what Natalie taught her when she was growing up, she does not need to be perfect.
