The Global Police are an Earth-based law enforcement organization from Earth-83. They have significant appearances in the series Tech Cross and Ben 2020.

History[]

After the Incursean invasion of Earth, the planet's native coalition of governments, the United Nations, was appointed as the de-facto representatives of Earth in the intergalactic community. The organization was gradually reworked into a global federation providing planet-wide rules and regulations regarding international law.

To enforce these regulations, the United Nations Security Council officially partnered with the Plumbers and drew upon their existing relationship with INTERPOL to fold multiple special operations forces from across the globe into a single organization known the Global Police, a law enforcement agency based in The Hague that holds authority across all UN territories.

Functions[]

The primary function of the Global Police is to intervene in criminal activity domestic to Earth relating to international law, acting as a semi-autonomous branch of the Plumbers and the UNSC. This ranges from terroristic threats against the UN to crimes involving restricted alien technology such as the EvoLock system.

The Global Police is allowed to override the authority and/or commission the assistance of local police forces while an active case is considered to be in progress, granting them access to crucial resources and information in time-sensitive situations; however, all countries are allowed the right to file suit against the GP if they believe the actions carried out by the organization on their territories were improper. Cases such as these are handled by the International Court of Justice, a separate organ of the United Nations also based in The Hague.

Units[]

Different dispatch units of the Global Police exist, primarily divided along the lines of which organization each unit's officers belonged to before they were folded into the GP. These units are officially referred to using short alphanumeric designators indicating their region of origin and the order they were registered in, but simply referring to them by their original organization names is fairly common in casual conversation.

Notable units include:

  • UN-01: The first unit officially designated by the GP and by far the one most heavily marketed to the public. A wholly original unit formed by the UN comprised of highly-skilled individuals hand-picked from various law enforcement agencies across the world. Its highly transparent nature compared to the more secretive operations of other organizations folded into the GP has made it the most iconic branch of the organization, to the point where if someone mentions "the Global Police" in everyday conversation, they're usually talking about UN-01.
  • USA-03: The third unit officially designated by the GP. Comprised of officers originally from the US black-ops military unit SACT/SECT. SECT's absorption into the Global Police was an important milestone for the organization, as the US initially refused the prospect of giving up control over one of their SAC units. The exact nature of the political bargaining that led to them releasing SECT to the GP has never been made public, but many theorize that the CIA decided to use the transfer as a means of severing ties to the violations of interstellar law the unit committed by imprisoning aliens in Area 51.

Officers[]

Officers of the Global Police are recruited from top-performing law enforcement agencies across the globe and go through a mandatory three-year training course before being deployed.

Notable officers include:

UN-01[]

USA-03[]

  • Chief Commanding Officer Lieutenant Steel

Technology[]

The Global Police is often used to develop and test experimental law enforcement equipment for use by both the UNSC and the Plumbers. Each use of experimental equipment must be individually authorized and recorded by agents from both organizations.

Tactical Assault Uniforms[]

The Global Police Tactical Assault Uniforms, or GP-TAUs, are armored bodysuits developed using a combination of Earth technology and Proto-Tech Armor. These suits are largely still in the prototyping stage and do not offer as much protection as Proto-Tech Armor proper.

  • GP-TAU Test Model 1 (GP-TAU T1): An armored suit resembling a SWAT uniform with built-in exosuit technology activated by pressing down on switches embedded into the suit's hip armor. The T1 was effectively bulletproof and was able to multiple the user's strength tenfold when its exosuit was active. Being a prototype model, it suffered several drawbacks, such as a malfunctioning helmet that was removed due to choking out its users and a short battery life that only allowed it to operate in exosuit mode for a maximum of five minutes before having to recharge.
    • User: Previously assigned to CCO Christine Eldridge; decommissioned after receiving significant structural damage during an emergency operation involving Class-A fugitive Malinicious Crow.

Trivia[]

  • During development of Tech Cross, the Global Police were originally referred to as the "World Police". This was changed to avoid any unintentional references to the 2004 film Team America: World Police.
