Plot[]
Vilgax's ship continues to orbit earth. Inside, three figures stand on a levitating platform, bounty hunters: each very different from the other. The first wears purple and black armor; the second is a large robotic half humanoid/half crustacean; the third wore bulky armor with a shell covering their face. A still recovering Vilgax projected himself into the room.
"Begin the audition."
The first hunter leapt into the fray using a jetpack, landing in a circle of combat drones, similar to the ones that attacked the Tennysons, he reached for his waist, pulling a blaster from the compartment inside to shoot down a few drones. They fire back but he rolls out of the way, firing a few missiles from his wrist to take out the rest.
Finishing a new group with grenades from his shoulder compartments before flying out of the way of the next hunter, catching a drone before destroying another with his massive claw, tossing the caught drone as a projectile to knock one more out of the air. The hunter took care of the fourth drone they saw with a laser cannon inside their claw arm.
The third and final hunter jumped down to face the final largest drone, unfolding a hoverboard, riding straight into a laser blast...
But once the dust settled, he was completely unharmed and flew straight into the droid's chest to punch directly through. Landing on the ground, he folded up his hoverboard, turning with the other hunters to see the screen where Vilgax projected himself once more.
"You are all... hired... Your objective: retrieve the Omnitrix. The one who succeeds shall collect the reward. Do NOT disappoint me."
They each got into their own tailor-made pods, ejected from the ship towards Earth.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Max finishes building a target-practice course consisting of strung up tires and soda cans.
"You ready, Ben?"
"Off course I am!"
"Remember, don't muscle it in there, 'might isn't always right'." Max then pulled a rope to let six cans go up into the air.
"I know, I know, but it's always fun!" Ben then transformed into Wildmutt, the blind beast sniffing the air, leaping and swiping the cans down, cutting them open. A target floated behind him who dashed over, sharpening the quills on his arm to swipe it apart, plunging his claw into a cactus. A group of cans came at him from behind so he stood up on his hind legs, sharpening the quills on his back to catch them, shaking them off to look back and give a thumbs up to his family.
"Show off..." Gwen rolled her eyes, applying some sunscreen in a lawn chair.
Wildmutt sensed a final tire approaching, he leapt into it but failed to account for the spin causing him to be redirected straight at Gwen, ducking under the orange furball that crushed her sunscreen bottle. The leak shooting straight onto her head.
The trio are then driving away through the desert, Ben with an ice pack on his head.
"Couldn't you at least learn to train rabidmutt-!"
"Wildmutt. And I already said I was sorry, what else do you want?" Ben complained.
"What we want is for you to take that alien device on your wrist seriously. You say you're a superhero, act like one." Max explained.
"Come on, you guys have seen me in action, the bad guys won't know what hit 'em the night Ben Tennyson comes to town!"
"Well ONE of these days, YOU won't know what hit you, and I hope to be there to see it."
The Rust Bucket's engine began to sputter as the vehicle slowed down on the road.
"That don't sound good..." Max shook his head.
"I can go Upgrade and get us to a repair shop in a jiff!"
"That thing doesn't always turn you into the alien you want, besides, if you transform back to human at the wrong time, it might blow your cover. People are already starting to get wary of those aliens of yours."
While the Tennysons talked, the hoverboard hunter was examining Max's contraption, looking at monitors, displaying tracks from Wildmutt and comparing it to signatures.
"...This was where the Omnitrix was last activated."
"The other two hunters, Sixsix and Kraab, watch from the cliff, communicating, Sixsix in some unintelligible language.
"A rock pile like this is better off space dust." Kraab responded while Sixsix flew towards the other hunter.
The hoverboard hunter picked up some orange quills from the ground.
"They transformed into a Vulpimancer."
He began to search for more, reaching for another however it was picked up by one of Sixsix's tentacle-like appendages. Hoverboard wrestled for his piece until he tore off the appendage, prompting Sixsix to reach for his holster.
"Get in my way again, and see what happens." Hoverboard stood in Sixsix's face until the alien backed up, flying away while Kraab dug into the ground, Hoverboard tossed a grenade to blow up the training structure before following.
The Rust Bucket was parked in a ghost town, nobody came in, nobody came out.
"We'll stop here for now, we're not out of gas, I've just got to fix something up." Max said.
Gwen reached down and picked up a paper.
"This says we're in 'Slaterville', made once they discovered it had a well of silver, then went bust 50 years later when they ran out."
"Great, now I know what to put in my book report." Ben sardonically gave jazz hands as he walked further into the town.
Max continued doing under the hood maintenance on the RV.
"Aha! Found the problem, pipe's compromised."
"I'll go and make sure Ben doesn't blow anything up." Gwen pointed while Max nodded.
Ben entered a warehouse, looking at the Omnitrix, kicking some metal out of the way, Gwen followed, calling his name, giving him an idea.
"Ben! Beeeeen! Calling all doofuses!"
She got no response, she went further, Sixsix got a blip on his radar, Ben had transformed, a shadow followed Gwen around, when she stopped, it passed right through her, leaving her shivering cold.
"What's the matter, 'cous? You look like you've seen a ghost... freak!"
Ghostfreak finally appeared in front of her, cackling to himself.
"Get over yourself, I wasn't shivering because I was scared-!"
Quickly, the two heard a rumbling from below, the earth below Gwen beginning to shift, Ghostfreak clutching her to turn them both intangible as Kraab shot out of the hole, looking around for his quarry.
"When I said I wanted to see you get your butt kicked, I didn't mean it!" Gwen yelled, staring up in awe.
"Run along Gwen, I can handle this guy." Ghostfreak made himself visible in front of Kraab while Gwen got out from under Kraab and out of his eyesight.
"Hand over the Omnitrix, Ectonurite, and I promise you won't suffer... much." Kraab pinched his claw arm.
"Dream on, claw boy. Are you familiar with the saying 'finder's keepers, losers weepers'? I found this watch first, so it's MINE!" Ghostfreak then moved his eye over to look behind him at Gwen, "He is talking about the watch, right?"
"Of course he is, Polter-goof!" Gwen rolled her eyes.
"Fine, fine, no need to be all snooty about it..." Ghostfreak looked back at Kraab once again, "So, you don't know that one, have you heard of... 'Now you see me..." Ghostfreak went invisible, "Now... you don't."
Weaving between attacks, Ghostfreak had the upper-hand, that was, until Kraab had scanned the Ectonurite's movemetns and shot him with a face-full of a strange liquid, turning him visible, and tangible.
"What did you do to me? Answer me!" Ghostfreak's demeanor changed dramatically.
"Stabilized your protoplasm, which makes it easier to do... this!" Kraab reached for the sword on his back, swinging it to slice Ghostfreak clean in half, letting him drop to the floor as he walked away, "Hardly worth the hunt."
Gwen managed to pull a lever by a door, setting off a lift below Kraab sending him into the ceiling, trapping him there so she could check on Ben, or... what was left of him.
'Go on.. without me... the coordinates are... Bleh..." Life seemed to have left Ghostfreak's body as he turned into a dark mist before... reconstituting himself completely fine as he turned back to Ben who fell flat on his rear.
"Ben! You scared me! I thought you..." Gwen choked out.
"Bit the dust? Yeah, I thought so too... That was weirder than when I normally go Ghostfreak."
"Let's go, we don't know when Crab Cake will wake up again."
Ben and Gwen finally made it to Max who finished work on the RV.
"Grandpa, some souped-up crab man came out of the ground and tried to kill me! He said he wanted the watch, but called it the... Omnitrix?"
"I convinced him not to try to go back as Humungousaur and turn him into a... as he calls it..."
"Seafood special!" Ben slapped the still recharging Omnitrix.
"Ben, we're done, we're out of here." Max opened up the RV door, motioning for the kids go tet inside as they followed, Gwen continuing to look outside for Kraab.
"No signs of Big Metal Claw yet."
"Well hopefully he won't show up if he knows that's good for him..." Ben said, staring as well.
As he said this, a saw began cutting through the roof.
"Is that him?" Max looked up, swerving the RV to knock the hitchhiker off.
"Don't think so, but whoever it is isn't happy to see us!" Ben yelled, trying to get away from whatever was chasing him.
Sixsix finally jumped into the RV, still being knocked around which gave the Tennysons the chance to escape, only to find Kraab jumping out of the ground as well, however they kept running to escape into a mineshaft and hid behind a wall.
"The Omnitrix Give it to me!" Kraab yelled, bursting through the wall, snapping his claw.
The three kept on running, Kraab firing several types of blasts that only just missed the family, only to find themselves at a dead end, a canyon, and a lift.
"Alright kids, we're gonna have to take a ride." Max said, opening up the way into the cable car as they jumped inside. Sixsix leapt onto the side, aiming his blaster directly at Ben, just about to fire until Kraab shot him in the side.
"Oh dear, I missed." Kraab narrowed his eyes, only to be shot back by Sixsix, knocking him over as the two got into a firefight.
"Alright, I'm gonna have to take a dive, see you guys at the bottom!" Ben watched the Omnitrix turn back on, transforming into Chromastone before hopping out of the cart, grabbing onto Sixsix to drag him down. Kraab jumped to follow, leaving Chromastone between both hunters.
"Hope you guys are ready for a multi-color beatdown!" Chromastone charged up, spinning around to fire rainbow beams from his hands to push both hunters back, Kraab quickly recovering and slamming his claw down on Ben who wrestled against the might, only to be pelted with several grenades which just seemed to annoy Ben.
"Hah! That didn't do anything!" Chromastone taunted, finally getting Kraab's arm off of him before seeing what actually hit him, "Aw, bite me in the..."
The grenades went off, sending Chromastone into the wall and knocking him out. It would have been curtains for him had a strange device not fallen into the fray, knocking both Kraab and Sixsix out.
"Back off, that rewards... mine..."
Hoverboard finally makes his appearance, dragging Chromastone over his shoulder out of the cave.
"Of all life on this planet, the Omnitrix finds its home on the wrist of a youth. Billions of life forms... You choose to base your transformations solely on brute strength." He shook his head.
"Oh, gee, blame me for accidentally finding the thing! Good idea!"
"And yet again, here you stand, talking to me instead of-" The man was interrupted by a punch to the mask from Chromastone, the hunter took no damage while Chromastone's crystal hands began to shatter.
"...You broke Chromastone? H-How?!"
"Relax. It's like bruising a knuckle for a Crystalsapien, you'll be fine. I'll take you cowering in pain as you being finished now?"
"...Hardly..."
"I appreciate your determination, its why I'm not taking you dead. A courtesy."
"Letting me live so I can get the watch pulled off of me is a 'courtesy'?! What makes you such an expert anyway, big guy?"
"Because you, Omnitrix wearer, are the last hope for my species. Your device is the key to ending an everlasting war between good... and evil.." The hunter explained, letting his visor down to reveal he was a teal crystal-like alien.
"So, guessing that the whole 'you're my last hope' implies you're on the 'good' side of that battle."
"Good being a relative term. Once you help me get what I want, I get the Omnitrix slipped off, as simple as that."
"It's not 'simple as that'! You think you can just use me for what you want so you can get paid? Why? Because I'm just 'some inexperienced kid'?"
Chromastone pointed at himself before reverting back to Ben who attempted to run away, only to be clutched by the hunter.
"You've stalled long enough, they'll find us." The man reached for his hoverboard, only to find it wasn't there, looking around to see Kraab.
"Looking for this? You're not getting off this planet with that kid, and just to be sure...."
Sixsix then exited the shadows as well, holding up Gwen and Max with his appendages as they futily struggled.
"You see, we decided to split the reward... and YOU in half!" Kraab began firing beams at Hoverboard and Ben, the former portecting the boy and running into a building.
"Stay here."
"They have my family!"
"That's not important, what's important is the Omnitrix."
Ben was about to try and transform but the watch was still recharging.
The hunter jumped out, taking the blunt force of an electric blast, slamming his fist to the ground erupting a large blast of diamonds from it, knocking the hunters off their feet.
Hoverboard then fired several shards from his hands. Rolling to dodge another shot to grab his hoverboard to get into the air to divebomb the two, sharpening his hands into knives.
Ben watched this go down, readied the Omnitrix when it turned green, looking to transform into Humungousaur as Kraab was flung towards his building and approached the boy.
Ben went to transform but stopped, as Max and Hoverboard's words rang in his mind.
"Might's not always right, Ben!"
"You choose to base your transformations solely on brute strength."
"...Let's get technical." Ben changed his alien, pulling a table behind him to catch Kraab's attention.
The hunter immediately slammed down, revealing a black mess of goo.
"...This isn't blood I'll say that much-." Kraab noted but was shocked when the mass overtook him, covering his body.
"Yeah, sorry not sorry, creepy crustacean." Upgrade said, making his face appear on top of Kraab's head before watching him short-circuit and fall to the ground as Upgrade returned to his natural form, "One down, one to go."
Upgrade looked up at Sixsix who was now bringing Tetrax out of the sky, making a crater in the earth, about to take him out with a few missiles, stopped only by Max, who was flipped over, the hunter turning a sawblade on him.
And this moment, in a fit of rage, Upgrade leapt onto Sixsix, grappling to take control of the armor, pulling him to the ground, breaking apart the armor until he was punched out of it by Hoverboard, the shock of the hit returning him to human.
"You've done enough, your family's safe now. He entered the fight again after I took them out of it." He pulled out a small cube, placing it between the other hunters, entrapping them before he left on his hoverboard, "I will return as soon as I am able, for the Omnitrix."
"Oh, really? Wait, wouldn't you need this to get off the planet?"
"Selective disinformation."
"Selective disinfor-what?"
"He lied." Gwen smirked at her cousin for being so stupid as not to get the joke.
The hunter, along with the others were bheamed away, leaving the Tennysons on their own.
Ben looked down at the hoverboard which activated a special message.
"This is the X321 hoverboard, I, Tetrax Shard, the original owner beqeuath it to you, whomever you are, for you have proven yourself worthy."
"How come YOU get all the cool alien stuff?" Gwen complained.
"Don't worry Gwen, I'm sure you'll get your chance soon." Max comforted her.
"Well, I think it's just my style." Ben shrugged.
"well here's another 'gift', hero." Gwen poured a bottle of sunscreen into Ben's hair as the boy struggled to get it out.
"What was THAT for!"
"I didn't want your big head to get all sunburned, thank me later."
At Vilgax's ship, the alien sighed in the chamber, a droid trying to explain the situation.
"S-Sensors indicate that... the Omnitrix is not with the mercenaries. The wearer has escaped their grasp."
"So, it seems that they are as clever as they are fierce. But I shall not be denied..."
