The CrossTrix is the main Omnitrix featured in Tech Cross.
History[]
The CrossTrix was initially created by Dr. Emilia Krauze as an experimental extension of her Transformation Lock technology meant to gauge its potential in developing a true Omnitrix.
At some point during development, Dr. Krauze began designing an advanced management AI for the device, dubbing it the "Cell Reconfiguration Operating System", or CROS for short. Oberon OS, an AI from the Archives of Oberon, interfered with its development, secretly injecting the personality data of the dead Anti-Life Entity into one of the alpha builds, giving it sentience in the process. Upon noting that her AI had become self-aware, Dr. Krauze added an extra 'S' (standing for "Sentient") to the end of its name, turning "CROS" into "CROSS", which was more thematically appropriate anyway.
At the end of the CrossTrix's development, a mysterious figure impersonating Dr. Krauze (later revealed to be Oberon OS puppeteering a corpse wearing an ID mask) told CROSS that he needed to find a candidate to wear the CrossTrix that was completely socially isolated. This lead to a weeks-long search that ended in CROSS finding Teresa Challice, who eventually became the wielder of the CrossTrix.
Upon gaining access to the CrossTrix after taking over Teresa's body, Oberon OS added several modifications to its programming and revealed CROSS's true origins. Oberon OS used the modified functions of the CrossTrix to create Nightmare, a misshapen but incredibly powerful transformation made by fusing all ten of the CrossTrix's aliens into its human user. Nightmare (dubbed "Nightmare OS" under Oberon OS's control) proceeded to use the All-Evolvyrn Key to obtain the powers of 113 different aliens at once on top of its own abilities, unintentionally overloading the CrossTrix's fusion chamber and leaving a significant amount of genetic traces as residue in the device.
After Teresa managed to regain control of her own body and was ejected from Nightmare OS, CROSS cleaned up the genetic residue clogging up the fusion chamber by fusing it into a mass of useable DNA. This unique genetic construct was infused into Teresa's current transformation, creating the first Titania Form. The Titania Construct was later absorbed into the CrossTrix itself for future use in an isolated mode.
CROSS[]
CROSS, the AI inhabiting the CrossTrix, was originally a backup of the Anti-Life Entity's mind in case the original was ever destroyed. In the course of executing a plan to revive the Entity, Oberon OS used the Entity's personality data to create CROSS, a naïve AI it believed would be easy to manipulate.
Over time, CROSS's personality data allowed him to grow, eventually gaining a human level of emotional intelligence and sense of purpose. He became attached to Dr. Krauze, whom both parties believed to be his creator, helping her manage her social ineptitude and following her directions down to the letter.
After choosing Teresa Challice as the CrossTrix's wielder, the two of them gradually grew a strong bond, considering each other partners. CROSS usually serves as an informant and a shoulder to lean on, encouraging Teresa in dark times. After Teresa's abduction and torture by Malincious Crow, CROSS became fiercely protective of her, at times taking matters into his own hands by using the CrossTrix's Bullet Train mode as a makeshift gun against attackers.
Description[]
The CrossTrix is a free-floating Omnitrix that can fly to its user at high speeds when summoned. This is accomplished using a location-tracking microchip the CrossTrix can implant into its user's skin that allows them to summon it by calling aloud for CROSS.
Upon making contact with the user's skin, the CrossTrix will generate a wrist brace made with sweat-wicking technology that transforms it into a gauntlet-type Omnitrix with an interface on the back resembling the wheels of a three-wheel combination padlock. This wheel-combination interface allows the user to set the CrossTrix into a variety of different modes depending on the wheel code dialed in.
After being modified by Oberon OS, its hard light generator was programmed to manifest a chainsaw blade from the chassis, allowing it to be wielded as a weapon.
The CrossTrix's main chassis has a panel that pops open to reveal a USB port and an audio jack. The USB port is used to connect the CrossTrix to a computer for maintenance and file management, and the audio jack allows the user to plug headphones into the device.
The CrossTrix has a camera installed in its chassis that allows it to record video of its surroundings.
Modes[]
The following is a list of known CrossTrix modes. It is implied that more modes exist, but they have not yet been seen or elaborated upon in-series.
Known Codes[]
- 0-0-0: Standby Mode
- The default setting seen when the CrossTrix attaches to its user. In this mode, the CrossTrix will simply do nothing.
- 0-0-1: Nightmare Mode
- This mode usually displays an error message, but when activated through unknown means, it can turn the user into Nightmare.
- 0-1-0: Transformation Mode
- This mode allows the user to transform into any one of the ten aliens stored in the CrossTrix by using the dial in a manner similar to that of an ordinary Omnitrix. As soon as the CrossTrix is set to this mode, it generates a protective field of hard light constructs that allows the user to select an alien and transform uninterrupted.
- 1-0-0: Scan Mode
- This mode allows the CrossTrix to scan new DNA and generate a CrossKey.
- 1-1-3: Titania Mode
- This mode allows access to the CrossTrix's Titania Forms.
- 4-1-1: Bullet Train Mode
- This mode allows the CrossTrix to fire the 411 Cross Bullet, a flying bullet train that exits the CrossTrix at the size of an actual bullet before expanding to full size using mass-shifting technology.
- 6-6-6: DOOM Mode
- This mode allows the CrossTrix to run DOOM (1993). Somehow.
- 7-1-0: Psi CrossKey
- This mode summons the Psioknight CrossKey, allowing it to be used in conjunction with one of the CrossTrix's existing aliens to create a powerful fusion.
Unknown Codes[]
- ???: Browser Mode
- This mode turns the CrossTrix into an internet browser. The connection is fully secure, but CROSS is still present and able to judge you for your internet history.
- ???: Comms Mode
- This mode allows the CrossTrix to access a number of different communications channels.
- ???: GPS Mode
- This mode turns the CrossTrix into a GPS. It's a bit like Google Maps if Google Maps stopped nagging at you to leave reviews.
- ???: MP3 Mode
- This mode turns the CrossTrix into an MP3 player, making it the first Omnitrix able to play My Chemical Romance on loop for 24 hours straight (
and also the first Omnitrix able to Rickroll people but come on guys it's current year Rickrolls aren't funny).
- This mode turns the CrossTrix into an MP3 player, making it the first Omnitrix able to play My Chemical Romance on loop for 24 hours straight (
- ???: Night Mode
- This mode switches all of the CrossTrix's displays to darker colors that are easier on the eyes.
- ???: Search Mode
- This mode allows the CrossTrix to ping for objects within a 50-meter radius. The search settings can be narrowed down to only ping for specific objects.
Dial Animations[]
CROSS can display various emotions on the CrossTrix dial via the use of simple two-frame animations.
Aliens[]
The CrossTrix has ten built-in DNA samples, all contributed by members of Dr. Krauze's personal friend group.
CrossKeys[]
CrossKeys are special DNA Keys that can be generated by the CrossTrix for use in the cross-fusion process, the device's titular function. The CrossTrix uses a unique fusion chamber that copies the DNA samples stored in CrossKeys after they've been inserted into the keyhole at the center of the selection dial.
Cross-Fusions[]
Cross-Fusions are a unique type of fusion exclusive to the CrossTrix. Once a DNA sample is scanned and copied, it is fused into the selected CrossTrix alien's genetic code in a way that expresses the sampled alien's unique external physiology as an armor of sorts. By assembling the sampled alien's genetic code around the original DNA instead of interweaving it, both aliens' powers are able to coexist at full strength as opposed to the "half-and-half" strength seen in standard fusions.
Trivia[]
- The CrossTrix was developed from an earlier concept of a lock-like Omnitrix powered by keys similar to those used in Bandai of America's Alien Creation Chamber toyline.
- Most wheel codes were chosen for specific reasons.
- "0-0-1" was chosen for Nightmare Mode as Nightmare is a singular being created from the CrossTrix.
- "0-1-0" was chosen for Transformation Mode as an obvious reference to Ben 10, as well as the fact that the CrossTrix holds 10 aliens.
- "1-1-3" was chosen for Titania Mode as a reference to the 113 Evolvyrn samples used in the creation of the All-Evolvyrn Key, the use of which inadvertently created the Titania Forms.
- "4-1-1" was chosen as a reference to Green Car 411-3, the only surviving train car of Japan's 400 Series Shinkansen (bullet trains) and the primary inspiration for the Cross-Bullet.
- "6-6-6" was chosen for DOOM mode because come on it's DOOM.
- "7-1-0" was chosen for summoning the Psi CrossKey as a reference to July 2010, the month Tech 10: Ultimatrix Unleashed was created and a Psioknight transformation (Psikick) appeared for the first time.
