Brevillas are a small rodent-like species from the planet Tioata. They have many different subspecies based on different environments. They first appeared in Fen 10: The Kids Are Alright as residents of the Slayer Dimension. It is unknown if the species exists in other dimensions.

Appearance[]

Brevillas are small furry mammals that come in many different colors. They typically have large ears with long tails and short limbs. They are quadrupedal, but can sit on their hind legs. They eat with their front paws. They have round heads with horns and large eyes. They have dots on their foreheads and markings under or around their eyes.

Electric Subspecies[]

Electric Brevillas come in shades of yellow and have yellow or orange eyes. They typically have two horns but can have three as well. Their horns are always twisted or crooked and can generate electricity through them. The horns are usually yellow or brown. Their ears are pointed upward and are typically the biggest of all the subspecies. They tend to be the fluffiest, with large patches of fur in their ears and around their necks. Their fur markings tend to be a dark orange or brown. Their tails are typically thin with patches of fur on the end, like a lion. Their fur is very conductive and generates static electricity when pet quickly enough.

Volcanic Subspecies[]

Volcanic Brevillas come in shades of red and pink and have red or black eyes. They always have two horns, typically black or gray in color. Their horns are typically short, but usually thick and can be warm to the touch. Their ears are pointed upwards and typically of a medium size compared to other subspecies. The inner fur is usually white but can be gray. Their fur is very short and thin due to the temperatures they live in. Their fur markings tend to be black, but can be a very dark red or gray as well. Their tails have the same fur consistency as the rest of their body.

Aquatic Subspecies[]

Aquatic Brevillas come in shades of blue and sometimes teal and have blue or teal eyes. They almost always have one long, thin horn, but can sometimes have two thin, short horns. Their horns are typically white or silver. Their ears are pointed upwards and typically long and thin. Their inner ears are usually white or dark blue, but pink is a rare color. They have long patches of fur coming from inside their ears that protect their inner ears from water and are typically dark blue or white, or will match the color of the fur inside their ears. Their fur is very similar to Earth's otters, beavers, and the feathers of ducks that repel water. Their tails are very thick with even Thicker fur at the end to help them swim and match the color of the fur coming out of their ears. Their fur markings can be white, dark blue, or rarely pink.

Aerial Subspecies[]

Aerial Brevillas come in shades of green and have green or brown eyes. They do not have horns like other Brevillas. They have long floppy ears and the inner fur is either green or brown. They typically have long, fluffy fur, especially around their necks and cheeks. Their tails are very thick and longer than most other subspecies. Their markings are usually dark green or shades of brown.

Other Subspecies[]

Other subspecies include Snowy Brevillas, who are typically white with extremely thick fur and see-through horns that are cold to the touch.

Underground Brevillas live in sand and tunnels with brown or sandy colored fur and actually have smaller eyes since they typically live in the dark. Their fur is thick to keep them clean from the dirt they live in. Their horns usually come in threes and are long and thick for burrowing.

Rocky Brevillas live on rocky crags and the base of mountains. They have gray or black fur that is thin and short. Their ears are typically the shortest of all the subspecies. Their horns usually come in twos and are short and thick. They usually rub their horns against rocks. Unlike other Brevillas, they have sharp claws.

Behavior[]

Brevillas live in many different environments on Tioata. They have evolved into multiple different subspecies to fit in with their surroundings. Their evolution has been influenced by the elemental crystals that form naturally on Tioata, giving each subspecies different elemental powers.

Their diets are different depending on the environment. Electric Brevillas eat copper that grows in the rocks on the plains they live on. Volcanic Brevillas eat lava and magma from the volcanoes they live on. Aquatic Brevillas eat seaweed and the oyster-like species in the waters of Tioata. Aerial Brevillas eat leaves off the trees they live in. Snowy Brevillas eat ice and ice crystals in the Snowy mountains they live on. Underground Brevillas eat Rock Worms that feed off crystals that form underground. Rocky Brevillas eat stone crystals that form in crystal deposits on rocks.

Brevillas live in herds of around 10-15 individuals and have peaceful interactions with different herds, but prefer to keep their distance from each other. Lone Brevillas tend to be taken in by herds easily. The different subspecies almost never interact with each other since they live in incompatible environments.

When interacting with other species who are not food, Brevillas are very skittish. Despite the powers they have at their disposal, most of them prefer to flee rather than fight. Volcanic Brevillas and Rocky Brevillas are the only ones that will fight rather than flee. Electric Brevillas are known to be very energetic and playful due to the electricity stored in their bodies. Underground Brevillas spend most of their time burrowing tunnels. Aquatic Brevillas build wooden domes similar to beaver dams beside rivers, lakes, and on seashores. Aerial Brevillas build nests in trees similar to birds on Earth.

Powers and Abilities[]

Brevillas have different elemental abilities depending on their subspecies. All Brevillas with horns can use them for stabbing and impaling. All Brevillas speak an intelligent verbal language that can be translated by a Universal Translator.

Electric Brevillas can shoot electricity from their horns and generate it by rubbing their bodies together. Without a partner, they can use rugs and carpets as a replacement.

Volcanic Brevillas can heat up their bodies to make it painful to touch them. They can also heat up their horns to cause more pain when they ram with them. They can shoot fire from their mouths either in streams or as fireballs. If they heat up their horns enough, they will also set fire.

Aquatic Brevillas can shoot streams of water from their mouths and also release bubbles. They are capable of forming bubbles around their bodies as protective barriers, but they are just as weak as normal bubbles. They also have higher lung capacity than other Brevillas.

Aerial Brevillas can manipulate air to form tiny tornadoes that they can stand on. Heavier species, such as humans, can not fully be supported by these tornadoes and must use them either for short periods of time or simply to propel themselves off of.

Snowy Brevillas can form ice around objects and other beings by touching them with their horns. They can shoot ice beams from their mouths. They can also lower the temperature of the air around them by exhaling cold air.

Underground Brevillas can cause small earthquakes and create pools of quicksand.

Rocky Brevillas have the hardest and sharpest horns, so they mostly resort to ramming, stabbing, and impaling with their horns. They also use their claws and teeth for scratching, gouging, and biting.

Weaknesses[]

Brevillas are small, so they are at a disadvantage against larger foes. They are also easily hunted and killed by their predators in each of their environments.

Electric Brevillas cannot conduct electricity if they are insulated such as with rubber, glass, plastic, or other insulators.

Volcanic Brevillas cannot heat themselves to their usual high temperatures if they are in freezing environments, such as where Snowy Brevillas live.

Aquatic Brevillas cannot breathe underwater and will drown if they cannot return to the surface.

Aerial Brevillas lack the horns that other Brevillas are able to defend themselves with.

Snowy Brevillas are not able to survive in extremely hot environments, such as where Volcanic Brevillas live.

Underground Brevillas are easily disoriented by bright lights.

Rocky Brevillas cannot swim and sink very easily.

History[]

Brevillas evolved from one common species that did not have any elemental affinities. As the species spread throughout Tioata, they consumed the crystals that grow on the planet, either directly or through the food chain. Each group of Brevillas in different environments evolved with the help of the crystals they consumed and gained elemental powers based on their environments, creating the seven Brevilla subspecies.

Over time, Brevillas were hunted by their predators to the point of becoming an endangered species.

They were discovered by intergalactic black market traders and captured to be sold to buyers on the intergalactic black market, endangering the species further. They have been sold as pets, tools, and cooked for high class clients.

Unknown Subspecies Brevillas[]

  • Unknown (the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Brevilla)

Etymology[]

Brevilla is based on the former scientific name for short-tailed chinchillas, Chinchilla brevicaudata.

The planet name, Tioata, is Samoan for the word crystal.

Trivia[]

  • Each subspecies has a different dialect they speak, making it difficult for different species to understand each other at times.
  • It is unknown what subspecies the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Brevilla is, but if it is similar to Upchuck, then it is possible the Omnitrix contains DNA for all the different subspecies. This cannot be confirmed however, since Ben has never turned into a Brevilla.
    • A potential name for Ben's Brevilla transformation is Elemenchilla.
  • Brevillas are primarily based on chinchillas, but they were first inspired by cats.
  • Brevillas are also slightly inspired by Pokémon.
    • They are very similar to the evolutions of the Pokémon Eevee. The influence of the crystals helping the species evolve into subspecies is similar to Eevee becoming different types depending on the evolution stone used on the Eevee.
    • The Electric subspecies is very similar to the Pichu evolution line, such as rubbing themselves together to generate more electricity and their tails being shaped like a Raichu's tail.
    • Each subspecies corresponds to a different Pokémon type. Electric with the electric type, Volcanic with the fire type, Aquatic with the water type, Aerial with the flying type, Snowy with the ice type, Underground with the ground type, and Rocky with the rock type.
  • Old concept designs for the species envisioned them with antennae and mouths similar to Ball Weevil.
