The Armament Matrix, or Armatrix for short, is one of an alternate Azmuth's creations.
Background[]
After Ascalon is used for widespread destruction, the original Azmuth would create the Omnitrix: a tool meant to promote intergalactic peace by allowing the wearer to, proverbially speaking, "walk in another species' shoes", so to speak. Ultimately, it would still be used for battle, even if that was not the intention.
This is not that Azmuth. This Azmuth fully realized that, no matter how peaceful the intent of creating something is, it would inevitably be used for the purposes of combat and bloodshed. As such, while he still advocated for peace, he chose to operate under a certain proverb used by the humans on Earth:
"If you want peace, prepare for war."
Thus, he created the Armatrix: a device that would allow its wearer to become the sword and shield of the universe, capable of fighting back against individuals like the one who brought ruin using Ascalon. And as fate would have it, the prototype would end up in the hands of one Ben Tennyson... as if he's bound by the stuff to Omnitrix variants or something.
Purpose[]
Just as with the original Omnitrix, the Armatrix stores the genetic data of over a million intelligent alien species, being able to be used for the purpose of restoring them if they ever go extinct. Due to the different functionality of the Armatrix, however, it even contains various less intelligent species.
However, as stated before, its main purpose is not meant for inter-species understanding like the original Omnitrix. Instead, it's meant to grant its user the ability to be the universe's sword and shield, and become capable of protecting anything from anyone.
Appearance[]
The Armatrix looks just like the prototype Omnitrix, with a few key differences. Its main color is a sort of cyan or turquoise rather than green, and the face bears a sort of four-pronged spiral pattern of lines, separating the face into four segments that rotate to open up when in use. Four thinner lines can also be seen coming off of the rim in-between the thicker ones.
This simple design differentiation sticks across all of this universe's Omnitrix replacements, including the recalibrated Armatrix, the completed Armatrix, and even this universe's version of the Ultimatrix, although that one is acquired by Albedo for different purposes. The protective cover of the completed Armatrix forms an X shape instead of the hourglass-like shape on the original Omnitrix.
Features[]
- The Armatrix acts as a universal translator, letting its wearer and those around them to understand any language in the universe.
- The Armatrix is capable of scanning DNA, even that which isn't already recorded within it.
- The Armatrix's main defining feature is the creation of armaments. By using the DNA stored on Primus, or directly recorded onto itself, as the basis and raw material, it is able to forge any kind of weapon or armor the user may require. In total, the types of armaments it can create using any one of its million-with-change DNA samples include:
- Armor
- Swords of varying sizes and shapes
- Axes
- Hammers
- Maces
- Whips
- Claws
- Bows
- Firearms of varying size, shape, and functionality
- Special weaponry specific to the DNA sample, such as gauntlet replicas of a Talpaedan's arms, a mass of Galvanic Mechamorph material that can be used to upgrade existing technology, or a remote-controlled set of Segmentasapien building blocks
- Etc.
Post-recalibration[]
- Upon access to a new armor or weapon, a "data dump" occurs that momentarily uploads subconscious knowledge of its usage into the user's mind. This includes the inevitable special capabilities of a given weapon or armor.
- The DNA data stored within the Armatrix can be used to repair damaged DNA, though this is deemed an "unconventional" use of it by Azmuth.
- The Armatrix now has an active AI that the user is capable of interfacing with.
- Due to being used through armor and weaponry rather than a transformation, the user does not need to worry about additional minds when channeling Celestialsapien DNA.
Ultimatrix[]
- It possesses a version of the original Ultimatrix's "evolution feature", in which a chosen DNA sample is put through "the worst-case scenario" for roughly a million years, forcing it to adapt in order to survive. This results in the creation of stronger weapons and armor than most standard samples, though the weapons are also more unstable and prone to collateral damage.
- The evolution of a Celestialsapien is impossible, as they are fundamentally perfect beings capable of rewriting reality on a whim and their sole flaw (tri-mindedness) is solved by harnessing their DNA the way that this version does.
- When in Ben's possession, the Celestialsapien DNA sample is locked behind two keys. This was done to prevent whoever hypothetically steals it to gain access to it, as well as force Ben himself to not rely on it too much.
Complete Armatrix[]
- The Armatrix gains a failsafe that immediately accesses any DNA sample required for the user's survival if they end up in a situation that would otherwise result in their death.
Master Control[]
The most powerful state of the Armatrix, regardless of its version. While difficult to acquire (needing either the use of a very specific sequence of inputs or a voice command from Azmuth himself), upon access, the user becomes capable of keeping a given weapon or armor manifested indefinitely and swapping them in and out with just a thought. Furthermore, the user can freely mix and match different weapons and armors with no repercussions, whereas usually using mismatched armor and weaponry or using multiple weapons based on different samples would shorten the timer. In a sense, the user becomes the ultimate warrior, especially when considering the "data dump" of the recalibrated version onwards. Both Azmuth and the user themselves can then turn Master Control back off, if they so choose.
Flaws and Errors[]
(NOTE: All of the listed issues are fixed by the time of the complete version)
- Sometimes, the Armatrix may access a different DNA sample or armament than intended.
- The prototype Armatrix originally had a hard time limit of 10 minutes before forcibly de-manifesting any weapon or armor created by it, forcing itself into "recharge mode" even if it still has plenty of energy.
- Removing the face protector of the prototype Armatrix would result in random fusions of DNA samples. The weapons and armors formed from these are typically awful and not worth using in the slightest.
- Some particular armors (most notably, that based on a Pyronite) would originally cause pain to the user despite them being meant to be incapable of hurting those who wear them.
- Certain armors based on less intelligent lifeforms (mainly those in the original universe's Nemetrix) would drive the user into a berserk state where they would relentlessly attack anything they registered as any sort of threat.
- Interference from magical or chrono energy would sometimes screw up some functions of the Armatrix.
Trivia[]
- This alternate Omnitrix was, quite literally, designed on a whim.
- Not every armor is what would generally be considered "armor". For instance, Celestialsapien DNA creates a long coat and otherwise mostly standard clothing... that still acts as nigh-impenetrable armor because Celestialsapien.
