And Then There Were 10 is the first episode of Kalus 10.
Plot[]
Above Earth, two ships are battling. Aboard the larger one, the alien warlord Vilgax speaks to his right hand man Psyphon, who informs him the Omnitrix is almost within their grasp. Vilgax tells Psyphon to make sure he doesn't fail.
Meanwhile in a high school in Bellwood, a boy called Kalus Stone is gathering some equipment from his locker when it is slammed close by Cash Murray, a school bully. He and his friend J.T begin to tease Kalus, who doesn't seem intimidated by them at all. Cash calls Kalus a loner and asks why he doesn't hang out with anyone, and Kalus replies that he doesn't need anyone. When J.T decides it isn't worth it anymore, he tells Cash they should probably move on to someone else, so they go off in search of a new victim. When Kalus walks out of the building, he sees Cash and J.T again, this time bullying Jacob Shaw, a student who is slightly younger than Kalus. When Cash grabs Jacob and suggests hanging him from the nearest tree, Kalus intervenes and tells Cash to let Jacob go. Cash believes Kalus has a soft spot for Jacob and begins to tease him about it. Jacob tells Kalus he'll be fine but Kalus doesn't leave and asks Cash to leave Jacob alone once more, but Cash then insults Kalus's mother, prompting him to turn angry and punch Cash. They begin to grapple each other until a voice yells at them to stop, and they realise the principal watched the entire thing.
Back in space, the Chimerian Hammer (Vilgax's ship) finally lands a blast on the smaller ship, taking a large chunk out of it. However, the smaller ship begins shooting back, causing critical damage to the Chimerian Hammer's hull. With Vilgax distracted by the attack, the ship releases a pod which heads towards Earth.
Kalus is walking home from school late, having been stuck in detention with Cash for an extra hour after school. He is then approached by Jacob, who thanks Kalus for helping him earlier. Kalus is unsure of how to respond so he tells Jacob it was no problem and that he should probably go home because it's getting dark. When Jacob leaves, Kalus continues his walk but sees what he believes is a shooting star crash into the nearby forest. Intrigued, he runs in to investigate and finds a large crater with the pod inside it. He wonders what it is and the pod opens, scans Kalus, then jumps onto his wrist. He tries to shake it off but it won't come off so easily. When he tries to pull it, it sticks tightly to his wrist, being too difficult to remove. He then accidentally causes the faceplate to pop up, seeing a silhouette appear on the dial. He wonders what it is and presses the device down, causing him to transform into a blue and black feline creature. He is creeped out by his new appearance, seeing his reflection in the pod's metal, and wonders what happened. Then he hears voices and turns around, seeing lights approaching. Not wanting to be seen in his current form, he runs, but discovers in this form he somehow has enhanced speed. He hears the voices fade away and realises he's losing them but then he is hit by a stun grenade, knocking him out. The last thing he sees is the shape of a man above him before he falls unconscious.
Vilgax is heavily damaged by the blast to the hull and is now being repaired in a healing chamber. Psyphon, who managed to stay unscathed from the blast, approaches Vilgax and tells him the drones boarded the ship, but no Omnitrix was aboard. Vilgax raelises that it must have fallen to Earth in the battle and angrily yells at Psyphon to go and retrieve it, so he sends some drones to Earth.
Kalus wakes up in a facility of sorts with soldiers around him. When he tries to move he discovers he has clasps holding him down, his limbs spread apart. He asks where he is before a man appears on a platform above him, revealing himself to be Silas. He explains that he is the leader of the organization known as M.E.C.H, and he aims to investigate and exploit alien technology to rebuild a better world, one in his own image. Kalus realises the Omnitrix must also be alien technology, which explains that his transformation was an alien. He asks what they plan to do with him and Silas says they will remove the device, even if it means taking Kalus's arm along with it. The M.E.C.H soldiers all bring a drill machine over to the table Kalus is strapped to and activate it, attempting to rip the Omnitrix from Kalus's wrist. It comes into contact with the Omnitrix but the second it does, it releases a feedback blast that sends many soldiers flying and destroys the clasps holding Kalus down. Silas shields himself from the blast and realises that this device is a lot more interesting than he thought.
Meanwhile, some drones arrive at the Omnitrix crash site but find no Omnitrix present. Then they detect a large DNA signal from the Omnitrix's feedback blast and head towards the source of the signal.
Kalus wonders what just happens then sees some soldiers begin to recover. He wonders what he should do then remembers the device on his wrist so he activates it and rotates the dial, discovering there is more than 1 alien form in the device. He stops on a winged silhouette and turns into a blue moth alien. A soldier grabs his gun and shoots Kalus, but on instinct he becomes intangible and the blast passes through. He begins to speak and realises he has cold breath, which makes him think of something. Having seen it done in many action movies and anime, Kalus takes a deep breath before releasing a cold wind that freezes the soldier in place, coating him in ice. He decides to give his form a name and calls it Big Chill before more soldiers regain their senses and begin to surround him. He breaths more icy breath again, freezing the soldiers around him. He looks up and sees Silas looking down at him, so he unfolds his wings and flies up after Silas, who begins running. Big Chill tries to freeze Silas, but only succeeds in trapping his foot. He lands and walks towards Silas, who tries to remove his foot from its icy prison. Big Chill gets right in Silas's face before reverting to human form. Kalus wonders how that happened but while he's confused Silas takes advantage and grabs him by the wrist, lifting him in the air. He says he'll have to remove Kalus's arm himself and begins to crush his wrist in his grip. Then, a blast shakes the building, making Silas drop Kalus, and some drones enter, to the interest of Silas and the shock of Kalus. Silas wonders where these machines come from as one of them scans around and locates the Omnitrix. They begin shooting at Kalus and Silas, so they duck to avoid the incoming fire.
Kalus desperately tries transforming but the Omnitrix is red and won't activate, so Kalus realises that it must need some recharge time. Silas orders his soldiers to fight back so they begin shooting but are no match for the drones' firepower. Finally the Omnitrix turns green again and Kalus activates it, turning into a yeti-type alien. He wonders what he can do and leaps into the air, landing on a drone. It spins round, trying to shake him off, but he stays on. He punches a hole in it and tears out some wires, causing it to malfunction and fall, so he jumps onto a different one, doing the same to it. He jumps onto the final one but it grabs him. He tries to escape, unintentionally releasing an electrical shockwave that causes it to also fall from the sky, dropping him. He praises himself, suggesting to call this form Shocksquatch. But then he notices several red laser targets on him and realises several soldiers are aiming their guns, but before they can fire he makes a run for it. They begin shooting but he's swift enough to avoid it. He climbs up the wall and out of the hole that the drones made to get in, escaping.
Aboard the Chimerian Hammer, Psyphon nervously kneels in front of Vilgax's chamber, telling his master they failed, and that a human has put on the Omnitrix and already learned its powers. Vilgax gets angry at Psyphon and tells him to not disappoint him in the future.
Meanwhile, Silas, who has finally been freed from the ice encasing his foot, inspects the wreckage of the drones, and begins to chuckle to himself knowing he has access to alien technology.
