Albedo (pronounced "al-bee-do") is Azmuth's former assistant, who, in his attempt to recreate the Omnitrix, turned himself into an imperfect clone of Ben Tennyson. Since then, he had been trying to get back to his Galvan form, but over the course of many failures, became trapped as an 11-year-old Ben. As of Fen 10: The Kids Are Alright, he finally escaped after several years and has been missing ever since. This version of Albedo is from the Slayer Dimension.

Appearance[]

As of Fen 10: The Kids Are Alright, Albedo is still stuck as a copy of Ben. However, he has grown up since his last appearance in Omniverse and is now physically 30 years old.

As an adult he retains his pale skin, white hair, red eyes, and dark circles under his eyes. He is a bit shorter than Slayer Ben at 5'8 as opposed to Ben's 5'10 due to a lack of a proper diet while he was growing up. His hair is very shaggy and choppy from cutting it himself and almost fully covers his eyes. He is very scrawny compared to Ben from not eating much.

He wears a red hoodie with two black stripes on the sleeves similar to his Omniverse jacket. He also wears a black shirt, black ripped pants, and red and white sneakers.

In In Dugway For the Day, he receives a haircut from Camille, making it much shorter and keeping it out of his eyes.

In Fen 10: Nothing Is Alright, he now styles his hair pushed back with bangs over the right side of his face. It has grown a bit since his haircut and he now has facial hair on his chin as well. He wears a red button up shirt under a white coat with several straps. He also wears black pants and white boots with red straps.

Personality[]

Before he turned against Azmuth, Albedo was an eccentric genius who was very respectful of Azmuth, and was concerned for the safety of others. At the same time, he still showed an arrogant sense of superiority toward others, mostly in terms of intelligence.

Albedo is arrogant, egotistical, ambitious, and bitter. He was unaccepting of Ben's right to wear the Omnitrix, thinking that Ben was just an unworthy human. He still bears animosity towards Azmuth, even so much as claiming the credit for the creation of the Omnitrix for himself. Originally being a scientist, he speaks with a larger vocabulary, being more intellectual than Ben, though in a rather cold and condescending manner. He also refuses to take blame for his actions as shown when he blamed Ben for his form turning negative despite it being his fault that the pulse that turned his form negative was emitted.

Because he had gained Ben's DNA, Albedo acquired Ben's cravings and habits, which he considers utterly repulsive: He has the same taste in food, scratches himself in "suspected" inappropriate places, and his left eye twitches whenever he lies. As a running gag of the series, he develops an insatiable craving for chili fries, even more than Ben himself, calling it a "human weakness." Originally he had hated this habit, but develops a liking for them, though he denies this and blames it on his human DNA.

Albedo is suspicious and distrustful of others. During his brief team up with Vilgax, he had his suspicions of Vilgax betraying him from the very beginning, which is later proved correct after they had beaten Ben and taken his Omnitrix. After absorbing Azmuth's intelligence, he briefly gained an enlightened personality, which led him to realize that destruction was pointless while creation was truly worthwhile. However, he soon reverted to his normal disposition after Azmuth's mind was extracted from him.

Despite his rude nature, he has shown to have a kind and nice attitude to his allies. The most notable instance is in the episode Double or Nothing where Albedo didn't blame Hugh for ruining his chance of becoming a complete Galvan again and instead blamed Ben, despite the fact that it was Hugh who lied to the team that Albedo was building a doomsday device, which is the reason the team went after Albedo (though the reason why he did it was because he didn't want Albedo to leave him).

Over time, Albedo has grown tired and prefers being left alone. He told Fen to scram when the boy first spoke to him, but on subsequent interactions Albedo grew more willing to talk. Once he starts talking in a comfortable situation, it seems like he can't stop.

History[]

Background[]

In his youth on Galvan Prime, Albedo had parents that encouraged him to be the best of the best. As a result, Albedo sought to work with Azmuth and learn as much as he could from the First Thinker. He accomplished his goal and became Azmuth's assistant. His parents eventually expressed disappointment that he chose to work under Azmuth rather than strive to become better than Azmuth. That was something Albedo had to continuously live with for as long as he stayed on Galvan Prime.

After the events of Trouble Helix and meeting Ben in person, Albedo began to believe Ben was not a good choice for the Omnitrix. Once he heard word that Ben had chosen to stop wearing the Omnitrix, Albedo also stopped worrying about it.

It was after learning that Ben was once again using the Omnitrix that Albedo finally expressed to Azmuth that he didn't trust "a mere human" with it and asked for an Omnitrix for himself. Azmuth denied his request, stating that there could only be one Omnitrix.

Albedo quickly lost all respect he previously had for Azmuth, believing that Azmuth wasn't actually smart enough to be considered First Thinker. Albedo finally started to believe his parents that he both could and should have tried to surpass Azmuth. After having an outburst in the lab over the issue, Azmuth fired Albedo, though Albedo claims he quit.

Albedo then used his knowledge of the Omnitrix to build a copy, and set it to match Ben's. However, when doing so, he didn't know that Ben's DNA would become the default, causing him to permanently lose his Galvan form and become a clone of Ben.

Alien Force, Ultimate Alien, and Omniverse Flashbacks[]

The events of Slayer Albedo's life during Alien Force, Ultimate Alien, and Trouble Helix are the same as his Prime counterpart.

Omniverse[]

This version of Albedo did not take part in And Then There Were None and And Then There Was Ben.

Post-Omniverse[]

At an unknown point after the war against Vilgax, Albedo escaped from his punishment and went missing. He eventually returned to Earth where he reluctantly felt most comfortable due to his human form.

At some point Albedo was overjoyed to realize he had aged and was not forever stuck at 11 years old.

Fen 10: The Kids Are Alright[]

Albedo was mentioned multiple times in And Then There Was Sven: Part 1.

He did not appear in person until Chats Don't Last Long Enough where he bumped into Bevel while they passed by each other in Undertown. Albedo's face was not shown and his identity was not made explicitly clear, but his voice was heard as he yelled at Bevel to watch where they were going.

Powers and Abilities[]

Albedo is highly intelligent, being "very smart even for a Galvan", and has a large amount of knowledge about the Omnitrix, having been Azmuth's assistant. He was able to create a copy of the Omnitrix that, despite the mishap of turning him into a clone of Ben, worked perfectly, as well as successfully complete the Ultimatrix by integrating its energy core on his modified former Omnitrix's band. Albedo created the evolutionary function in the Ultimatrix. Technically speaking, he is smarter than Dr. Psychobos.

Albedo is a very good fighter, as he could easily defeat Gwendolyn and Kevin with just Swampfire and Diamondhead respectively. Albedo was able to easily overwhelm Ben in a hand-to-hand fight while both were human. He was even able to knock Ben out for a short time. He was also able to take down hundreds of Vilgax's Humungousaur clones using only Ultimate Humungousaur.

Thanks to a modification that Albedo made to himself through a DNA altering machine, Albedo can alter his DNA at will and change into any species without the need for an Omnitrix. As intended, Albedo also regained access to his true Galvan form as a plus. However, because Ben had interfered, whenever he changes into an alien form, he will always revert to his "Ben" form. Albedo temporarily used a new Ultimatrix to help stabilize this power in Omniverse.

Equipment[]

Omnitrix Copy (formerly)[]

Albedo originally had an Omnitrix he had built himself, giving him access to all of Ben's unlocked alien forms. However, his Omnitrix was of low quality and only worked by syncing data from Ben's Omnitrix, inadvertently causing him to assume Ben's form as it was the default. This Omnitrix was destroyed by Azmuth at the end of Good Copy, Bad Copy.

Ultimatrix (formerly)[]

In The Final Battle, Albedo used the Ultimatrix, a new version of the Omnitrix semi-completed by Azmuth and modified by himself. Unfortunately, at the time it was connected to the same database as the Omnitrix, meaning Ben was still the default unless he could reset the Ultimatrix through the Omnitrix. The Ultimatrix was later taken from him by Ben.

Second Ultimatrix (formerly)[]

In Omniverse, Albedo created a new Ultimatrix but it was eventually disabled and confiscated by Azmuth. Despite being called an Ultimatrix, this device was nothing more than a stabilizer for Albedo's transformations, allowing him to maintain a form for as long as he wanted.

Switchblade[]

In A Second Chance, he wielded a switchblade against Fen. It is unknown if he is still in possession of this switchblade or if it was confiscated by Ben or the Plumbers.

Weaknesses[]

In almost all of his appearances, Albedo's own arrogance is often the source of his downfall and he always underestimates the intelligence and skill of those that oppose him, specifically Azmuth and Ben. His obsession and desire to get revenge on them can also lead him into getting into situations that end in his defeat and make him overlook the potential of others, such as when he all but completely ignored Blukic and Driba (due to their bumbling antics) while they successfully restored Azmuth after he had been destroyed by Albedo.

He has developed an uncontrollable craving for Chili Fries. This at times gets the better of him, such as side tracking him during or in-between his plans to pick some up. Another case is that he also has a hard time controlling himself eating them when he hasn't eaten any for a long period of time; when he is given some if this happens, he loses his self-control and eats them in a rather messy manner.

Despite his enhanced intelligence he doesn't judge people properly, seeing how he teamed up with Vilgax thrice despite being betrayed by him on two occasions.

Relationships[]

Fen Tennyson[]

Initially annoyed by Fen coming around to talk to him, Albedo eventually grew fond of Fen, even enjoying talking to the kid. He appreciates Fen's eargerness to learn new things and that the kid actually listens, even if he doesn't always understand what Albedo's talking about. Albedo even chose to discuss his past with Fen and Fen talked to Albedo about his issues with his dad. Once Albedo learned that Fen was Ben's son, he was so overcome with the desire for revenge that he held Fen hostage. However, the bond he formed with Fen meant he couldn't bring himself to hurt Fen and he chose to take Fen's advice and accept Ben's offer for a second chance.

Albedo sees Fen as too good of a kid that Ben doesn't deserve and as someone who saved his life. Albedo doesn't realize it, but due to being a copy of Ben, he instinctively feels something parental towards Fen.

Lucy Mann[]

Albedo is highly annoyed by Lucy's cheery personality, believing Ben stuck him with her as a form of punishment rather than a second chance. He refuses to call her by name. Lucy, however, wants to help Albedo "come out of his shell" and plans to do whatever it takes to get that done.

Cooper[]

Albedo has no real interest in Cooper, but is curious in his ability to manipulate technology. Cooper wants to help Lucy in making Albedo "come out of his shell", but his history as an enemy of Ben makes him slightly scared of Albedo.

Eddie Grand Smith[]

Eddie and Albedo don't talk to one another unless necessary and they prefer to keep it strictly business. Eddie's sternness and Albedo's arrogance clash too much for them to get along, so they prefer trying not to instead of butting heads. Eddie is uncomfortable with Albedo's history as an enemy of Ben and how much Albedo still looks like Ben.

Appearances[]

Fen 10: The Kids Are Alright[]

  • Chats Don't Last Long Enough (first appearance)
  • A Second Chance
  • In Dugway For The Day

Etymology[]

Albedo was named after the reflectivity of a celestial body. Albedo is a "reflection" of Ben.

Trivia[]

  • His birthday in accordance with an Earth calendar is September 8th.
    • This is a reference to the date of the first hint at his existence made by Dwayne McDuffie. It was also chosen because it is also Lecliss's birthday.
  • With his last Ultimatrix confiscated by Azmuth, Albedo has long since stopped bothering to transform due to his transformations being so unstable. He has no interest in trying to create a new one either.
  • Albedo would love to get in contact with Hugh again if possible, but he wouldn't want Hugh to see him in his current state.
  • Albedo would do anything to avoid ever seeing his parents again since he blames them for him constantly feeling like a failure. He also fears how mad they might get at him if they knew even half of what he's done.
  • Albedo would never ever admit it in a million years, but to some degree he has come to view Fen as his child in the same way that Fen is Ben's child and is even jealous of Ben getting to be his real father despite Albedo's low opinion on Ben's job as a parent.
  • Albedo and Fen have nearly the same power in terms of their ability to transform, however the difference lies in that Albedo's functions almost exactly like a biological Omnitrix excluding the instability of his transformations. Whereas Fen's ability is closer to shapeshifting with a few incomplete forms due to his brain not transforming to match the alien.
  • Just like Ben, Albedo likes chili fries, but not because of Ben's DNA. Albedo is just blaming it on Ben.
    • Albedo likes smoothies too, but he can control himself around those.
  • Albedo hates Azmuth more than he hates Ben.
  • Albedo considered his 11-year-old human form to be a lot worse than his 15-16-year-old form.
  • When Albedo lies, his left eye twitches, just like Ben's.
  • Albedo's first design originally did not have a black shirt under the hoodie and the hoodie was not intended to have stripes initially.
  • Albedo's second design went through many changes.
    • The first concept had a black shirt and red pants, as well as black and white sneakers. The coat did not have loops for the lower strap. The buttons on the pockets were white.
    • The second concept had white shoes and black buttons for the pockets. The shirt was also more unbuttoned.
    • The third concept had red boots with white straps. He now lacks a new Ultimatrix.
  • The focus on white instead of red as his primary color for his design in Nothing Is Alright is meant to distance him from his identity as a clone of Ben and reflect his character development.
