A Lookback at the Past is the second episode of Omniverse: At Night.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Ben, Gwen and Kevin in pursuit of Zombozo, who had stolen a brain, much like the first episode of Omniverse. With Zombozo managing to slip away from the clutches of the heroes, Ben jumps in as he transforms into Lodestar, who throws a metallic Kevin at Zombozo's direction, causing them both to tumble over. With Zombozo scurrying to grab the brain, Gwen attacks him by ejecting mana at his direction, before successfully stealing the brain, only to get pulled by Lodestar's megnetic field, accepting defeat.
The scene transitions to a tied up Zombozo, trying to break free, as the camera moves to Ben, Gwen and Kevin discussing. Ben thanks them for joinging him for the fight, as Gwen and Kevin get in the car as they take off, leaving Ben to deal with Zombozo, however, Ben chooses to head home since he was exhausted. By the time Ben had gotten home, the sky had turned blue, as Ben got inside his house, rushing to his room and crashing out on his bed. He is woken almost immediately by his phone ringing, as Julie wishes to meet up, as Ben happily accepts the favour. Getting out of bed, Ben, who was still in his clothes, gets in the car after exiting the house, as he drives off to the tennis court, where Julie was.
Ben arrives at the tennis courts as he exits the car, before greeted by Julie, who thanks him for coming. Julie grabs out a tennis racket from her bag, as she begins her tennis practise, while Ben keeps an eye on Ship, who lunges out at him from her bag. With Ben keeping an eye on Ship, and Julie continuing her practise, it is cut short by an ambush caused by Rojo, Azul and Amarillo, who had exploded a bank nearby the tennis court, as Ben had to go and sort it out, transforming into Cannonbolt, fleeing from Julie as he manages to catch up with the three villains. With Julie turning around, she notices Ben's absence, as she then believes that he grew tired of having to hang with her during her practise.
At the next scene, Rojo, Amarillo and Azul were running back to wherever they wanted to flee to, before they get smacked by Cannonbolt in his spherical form, before returning to his normal form. Surprised to see Rojo causing chaos again, Cannonbolt proceeds to attack Rojo, while her gang members flee the scene. Rojo proceeds to attack Cannonbolt, who couldn't really do much, as he had no choice but to quick change into something much better for combat, that being Wildvine, who manages to instantaneously trap Rojo in a vine barrier, restraining her from her clutches to escape. The Florauna detangles himself as he catches up to Azul and Amarillo via going underground, bursting through the floor in front of them as he attacks by throwing his explosive seeds, causing them to run the oppisite direction, with Wildvine having to stretch his arms and restrain them both, then trapping them in a vine barrier, much like Rojo.
Wildvine transforms back into Ben, as he had to hurry back to Julie's practise, only to be shocked at how she was sitting on the benches, crying. Ben is scolded for always leaving Julie to be on her own, but Ben tried to reason with her, telling her that Rojo and her crooks had been causing some minor damage. Julie coldly brushes off Ben's claims as nothing but another blatant excuse to leave her on her own, as she tells him to go, to which he snaps back, telling her that she had to understand that he is a hero, and that he has to fight off threats, as he is then told once again to leave, as Julie could never forgive him.
Ben, upset, drives off to Gwen's house so he could vent to her about the recent issue. He knows that Gwen is understanding, and she's always there to help him. By the time he reaches Gwen's house, he knocks on the door, to which she opens it, letting him inside, not knowing about what Ben had to say about Julie. The scene cuts to Gwen's room, with Ben sitting on her bed, as she was also on her bed, as she was ready to hear about what he was about to say. Ben calls out Julie for her unreasonable behaviour to Gwen, who had to think for a moment. Ben tells her that she was upset about the fact he had to stop Rojo and her crooks from causing something bad to happen. Gwen, seeming to put two and two together, understands Ben's issue here, as she builds up the confidence to tell Ben something she wanted to tell him for a while.
Gwen reveals to Ben that she is going to Friedkin University, an Ivy League college, which Ben seemed to be shocked at first, but understood that Gwen had been helping him save the world for six years. Ben tells her that he is supportive of her decision, as he is given a warm hug. She thanks him for always supporting her, as Ben thanks her for doing the same thing. With Gwen having that heavy weight off her chest, she asks Ben about going to college himself, in which Ben confirms that he'd think about it, as he is still unsure if he should go, despite his heroing duties.
Ben asks Gwen if she would like to take a trip down memory lane, as Gwen accepts the offer, casting a spell in which a portal is formed, as they hop in. Enter the Rust Bucket six years ago. Ben, Gwen and Grandpa Max were taking a road trip across the US, as they were at New York. Ben and Gwen are transported six years into the past, finding themselves near the Total Zone arcade area, as Ben remembers this place, but knows that the building had shut down due to bankruptcy. There, they catch a glimpse of ten-year-old Ben Tennyson meeting eleven-year-old Kevin for the first time. Ben remembers this very well, having been there, but Gwen couldn't remember, only telling him that all she remembered was Ben having an argument with Grandpa Max, with Ben storming out of the Rust Bucket, which made present day Ben laugh nervously.
However, they find out that both Kevin and Ben had sneaked into an abandoned warehouse, in which present day Ben and Gwen follow along, finding Ben and Kevin getting SWAT'd, as ten-year-old Ben transformed into Stinkfly, who grabbed hold of Kevin as they both manage to escape, in which the SWAT go after them, along with Ben and Gwen, in which Ben transforms into Big Chill, grabbing Gwen as he flew after them all, hoping to not lose them. However, despite wanting to keep up with them, Gwen tells Ben that she'll enter another memory of their's to which Big Chill obliges, granting Gwen the ability to project another portal, entering another flashback. Big Chill swoops down and lands on a building with Gwen, letting her go as he looks over from the rooftop, finding Vilgax fighting against ten-year-old Heatblast.
Big Chill would transform back into Ben, as Gwen would gasp at the fact that a child was capable of fighting against Vilgax. Ben, despite remembering this, didn't want to stay there much longer, so they enter another part of their memories, by going through a portal to when Ben first got the Omnitrix. Ben and Gwen were at the woods, hearing drone-like sounds, laser noises, and Petrosapian movement, as they run to find Diamondhead taking down the Mechadroids. Eventually, with Ben and Gwen's patience, Diamondhead takes down the Mechadroids, as Gwen asks Ben if he'd like to head back to present day.
Cut back to present day Bellwood at night, the portal opens with Ben and Gwen exiting as they give each other one last hug. Ben wishes the best of luck to Gwen at college, while Gwen tells him that she'd miss him a lot. They part ways, Ben receives a call from Julie, asking him if he'd want to hang out at the cinema. Ben obliges to the plan, as he transforms into XLR8, racing to the cinema, where Julie was standing outside.
Ben makes it to the cinema as he reverts from his Kineceleran form, waving at Julie, who cuts straight to her giving him a tight hug. Ben hugs her back, as Julie pulls from the hug and apologises for how she acted, admitting that what she did was wrong, and how she had to get used to dating a superhero. Ben smiled as he forgave her, as he also apologised for not telling her that he had to leave in order to tend to his superhero duties. Julie accepts the apology, before sharing another hug. Ben and Julie walk into the cinema, getting ready to watch whatever Julie wanted to watch, ending the episode.
